Volume control for tower speakers

A friend of mine has the Infinity 6100M tower speaker system.

The amp has gone south, and he's having trouble finding a replacement. It appears that the system has been discontinued, and all available stock is being sold as a package, speakers plus amp. If he gets a different amp (probably just a 2 channel, 150 x 2), what are his options to regain separate on/off and volume control of the tower speakers? (This functionality was built in with the 6100 amp via an attached microphone with volume adjustment.) I'm aware of the wetsounds controllers, but is there anything else that's a little cheaper? I don't have tower speakers, so this multiple zone stuff is all new to me. I've seen remote, add on gain controllers for amps, but I don't think that's really what he needs, although I may be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
