Tinted windshield

I had mine done on my 210 and wanna get my 215 but 350 seems kinda steep price wise. How much have you guys paid? Any recommendations on shops to do it. I'm in Brentwood. Thanks

shawnmdarnell 03-22-2014 6:20 AM

That's pretty close to the going rate. I paid somewhere in the threes up in Sac 5 years ago for my 215.

Tinted windshield

Shield tint is spendy. Seems to be around 100-150 less if you take the assembly off and take it to them.
I couldn't get quoted anything under $400 in the sac area.
I ended up having it done by my tint guy in Reno a day I was up there. $240 with it on the boat

WLF 03-22-2014 7:27 AM

Can some of you guys with tinted windows throw up some pics (in the sun if possible) of your boats and say what % tint you have?

I'm for sure doing my boat, it's all black already other than tint and what to get an idea of what would look best on my boat.

I've heard others recommend to not go too dark as seeing at night can be very hazardous.

Thanks!

calexan 03-22-2014 7:43 AM

Here are my last two boats. Both have 5% tent in them. Always thought it made the boat look more aggressive. I will be getting my next boat done again. No regrets. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...-11Sync232.jpg

I know the 2 Supra's are 5% ... I think the Bu is too ....

I have 5% also. Here's a shot in the sun. It's really not all that dark in direct sun. I wish it were darker actually.

I have limo on mine (I believe that's 5%). I found a local shop to do mine for $150 with a lifetime warranty. No issues yet. Sorry no close up pics, only ones I had on my phone.

Jmorlan 03-22-2014 8:29 AM

My old boat is also 5%, done by the same fellow in Reno for $200

Alright well sounds like 350 isn't bad! Im doing 5 on mine. Had 20 on my last boat but it wasn't dark enough! My truck is double limo

Jmorlan 03-22-2014 8:38 AM

That's what my truck is. Double 5 over the factory on rear. 5 on fronts.
Car is also 5.
Too bad it's all coming off this week for tint tickets! Thanks to my handy CHP pal.
All good though. Will be back on in a week or 2. LMAO

dp513 03-22-2014 8:43 AM

Just gotta know a cop to sign it off so you don't gotta take it off!!

Jmorlan 03-22-2014 8:46 AM

Same cop writes me up every time. He's a rat bastard.
He gave me a "failure to comply" along with my last tint ticket in my car.
Because he had written my gf a few weeks before on my truck.
And I "should have known tint was illegal no matter what vehicle"
Telling me I should have taken it off both vehicles after that ticket. Please go.

That looks bad a$$ with 5%. That is pretty much exactly what I want, but just nervous about navigating at night. I do a lot of late night cruising and there are always boats anchored up and people "enjoying" themselves throughout the summer...does/has it ever caused an issue with you guys? I was thinking of going 20% like I have all around on my cars...makes such a HUGE difference in the look and aggressiveness of the car!

Jmorlan 03-22-2014 8:52 AM

I say go 5%. It's really not that dark, and if you go 20%, you'll end up like OP and wanting 5.
At night when it's dark, probably also not a whole hell of a lot different either. Both tints will be dark.
But in the day time, you'll be glad you did the 5%.
With the sun blaring through the 20% I'd feel like it was almost non existent. That is guessing on how much it shines through the 5

WLF 03-22-2014 8:58 AM

good points...with an enclosed car 20% can look dark, but in an open cockpit 5% probably gives you about the same effect...5 it is.

now if spring will actually arrive...

bryce2320 03-22-2014 9:01 AM

Im going to go 5% and in the evenings look over the window. We always pull and drive with the bolster up anyways, and it makes the boat look so much better IMO.

We drive a lot at night as well. I hate to look over the windshield so we went with 35% on the last boat and will do the same on the new boat as well

That is what I want. 5 is too dark. I think 35 is perfect.

20% was perfect for me. $250 with the glass out of the frame (that I had pc'd).

Damn, I love the powder coated windshield frame...just added one more item to the to-do list.

Do you mind me asking how much trouble/cost it was to pull it all apart & have it done?

shawnmdarnell 03-22-2014 5:54 PM

Pulling it off the boat took 15 minutes. MC used silicone to hold the rubber in the frame so that was a pita! Getting it back together takes a little persuasion, a spray bottle of soapy water generously coating the rubber is your best friend. The frame was dipped to remove the original coating then pc'd, I think it was around $200.

phathom 03-23-2014 11:09 AM

Not sure why it is so spendy down there. It is about the same area as back glass on a car, maybe a little larger and at the same angles. I wouldn't think any tint shop would charge more than $200 for it, probably more along the lines of $150. Around here you can get your entire car done for around $250 if you look around and don't go to the biggest shop that tries to be Pimp My Ride.

My last two, both with 20%. I think it's perfect. Wouldn't want it any darker.

markj 03-23-2014 11:17 PM

5% looks cool but you really can't see out of it, day or night. 20% looks cool and you can still see out of it. 35% is like why bother? It makes no statement at all-except you wussed out on tinting your windows. Either $hit or get off the pot. Just my opinion. Flame away boys...

ffmedic74 03-24-2014 4:21 AM

So I know that the tint gives a good look. Does it have any function for day and night driving glare control etc?

With 20% I can still sit in my seat and look straight though the glass and have perfect vision of the water. At night that's. Different story but when I'm driving at night I look over the window anyway. 5% would be okay for me but when other people drive my boat I would worry. 20% is the best way to go IMO

NoNceNse 03-25-2014 11:00 AM

I was originally quoted $400 so I removed the windows from the boat and then tinted the flat pieces myself (super easy). The two curved windows where done professionally for $100. All 5%.
