wow <BR> <BR>I still want a full-frame, 5+ fps, single-grip with great sensitivity. <BR> <BR>5D-like with more fps, and Digic III is what I am waiting for. This is a good step in the right direction though . . . .

actually it does have a new battery and how about the new highlight protection mode and the ability to fine tune your AF with each lens, better AF,.. this camera is incredible! I can't believe there are actually people disappointed with it.

My Olympus E-100RS takes 15 fps. It will take pics from takeoff to landing. The camera is still the fastest digicam to date, and will stop action with a 1/10,000 shutter speed. Unfortunately it is not an SLR type body, and has low megapixels. <BR> <BR>I swore I would not buy a DSLR until they came out with something equivelant. I caved though, and went with 5 fps. The new Canon is definetely a step in the right direction. Soon they will be held back by media again. 110 frames in a few seconds at high res is gonna kill a 16 gig card in less than a few minutes.

how about 10 FPS at 10MP and 14bit RAW. Good thing hard drive prices are so low.

Peter C- 60fps is the fastest digi-cam to date. Well, actually, that camera Justin Stephens used in The Truth and Asterisk 2 is currently the fastest, but I'll assume you meant consumer grade cameras ;) <BR> <BR>10fps for 110 frames in "JPEG Large" mode. It'll shoot a burst of 30 RAW images, though. I pity da fool who "gets" to stitch THAT sequence together! <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/rofl.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>that "110 frame in JPEG Large mode" buffer may sound impressive, but I don't see any real reason for it, honestly. It just seems like they threw that number in there so to make the speed and buffer seem ridiculously awesome (which they've succeeded in doing!). Of course, maybe this means that you can shoot sequences in JPEG Small mode continuously forever, because the buffer might be fast enough to transfer the data to CF card before it fills up? That'd be sick.

I just noticed initially that the battery was the same overall shape and assumed they hadn't changed it. <BR> <BR>Did anyone notice Canon has figured out a new way to compress RAW images? Evidently the RAW shots from this cam compress down to 2.4 mbs which isn't a whole lot more then a normal 10mp fine jpeg. <BR> <BR>As far as the micro AF adjustment it's hard to say if that's a blessing or a curse. Checking the focus accuracy of a lens involves way more then just pointing your cam at something and seeing if the resultant image is in focus. <BR> <BR>I've read many of the Pro PJ and sports shooters run up against the current 1D2 buffer all the time using assistants that just swap cards all day long for them. While I would agree 10fps / 110 frames sounds like something I would use sparingly the Canon 1 series has always been designed purely for what the pros want.

oh, don't get me wrong here- I totally see the value in having a larger buffer and fps, but advertising that it can shoot 110 <b>JPEG Large</b> files just seems like they're only throwing some gaudy number out there to wow the audience. Already I've seen people post online about how it can shoot 100+ frame sequences, perhaps thinking that these 100+ frames are in RAW when in reality they're confusing that number with another (smaller) file type. I dunno...we'll have to see how things pan out. <BR> <BR>If nothing else, it'll drop the value of the 1d2n substantially. B&amp;H's price is already down to $3,400.

Actually Eric hit what I was getting at. I thought this was the upgrade for the EOS-1Ds, the new one doesn't have an "S" or "N" designation, so I was assuming this was the EOS-1s Mk II to MK III upgrade. <BR> <BR>Makes sense that it's the N upgrade though. <BR> <BR>I have mixed feelings on 10fps. One one hand, I like it, on the other hand, how often do you really need it? It's a hard drive killer for sure. <BR> <BR>-S

actually the "N" designation just meant new. There weren't enough improvements in the 1DIIN from the 1DII to warrant it being called the 1DIII. (kind of like Nikon's D70/D70S) Canon's 2 professional lines are the 1D and the 1DS with the S meaning it's a studio version of the 1D. <BR> <BR>I'm also pretty sure the framerate on the 1DIII is adjustable like the 1DIIN/1DII

The hardware interpolation in these modern pro printing systems is pretty good. I've got a 24 X 36 blow up of Chris on the wall taken with a 1D2 and I can't see any pixelation. I have a feeling that the improved tonal gradation they talk about above will have a major effect on large prints as well. <BR> <BR>I'm sure the 1Ds3 is not too far off either, rumors have it at 22 mp.

have you noticed the speculation about this being Canon's last sports photography camera now that newspapers are starting to switch over to HD captures (and I'm betting that by year's end we'll start seeing professional versions of the consumer video/ photo hybrids)
