So, I am looking at possibly buying a wakeskate for this upcoming season, and since the '08 styles came out, the Gator Boards are the only ones that really caught my eye as far as aesthetics go. I really like the look of the '08 Deuce Pop (http://www.gatorboards.com/SKATES/Deuce-Pop-41-br-Matt-Manzari-composite-bottom) and the '08 Pro Model (
http://www.gatorboards.com/SKATES/Pro-Model-42). The obvious difference I see between these two boards is that the Deuce Pop is a bi-level board. I've read that these boards tend to give more "pop" off of the water, but they look like they might be more difficult to ride as a beginner. Can someone explain the difference (pros/cons) of a bi-level skate vs a standard skate? Are there certain tricks that are harder to do on a bi-level? Is it harder to flip/spin?

Also, even though I don't like the print nearly as much, I ran across a great deal on the '07 Deuce Pop, and I was wondering if Gator changed much with the new model other than the print. With the new models out, vendors seem to be trying to almost give the older styles away.

just to clear things up, bi levels do not give you more pop. it is just a different kind of pop. they key feature abut a bilevel is the top deck shape and how the concave feels more like a skateboard.

ive ridden a lot fo bilevels but have not had the chance to ride the gator yet. ive havent heard much good about it though. because it has a composite bottom deck it loses the feel of how a wood deck sits and rides in the water.

no wakeskate is better for beginners or pros. wakeskates are all about what feels better to you.

even though ive ridden bilevels i still love wood concaves. i feel the pop is more responsive and reacts quicker when i slam the tail down. but i do love the feel of the added weight of the bilevels on lip tricks.

ive written some reviews on wakeskating.com in the past couple weeks.

if you are willing to buy one just go for it. you never know what you want before youve tried it. after your first board you will have a better idea of what you really want out of a skate besides just a graphic that catches your eye.
my first skate was a scape 116, we all make mistakes. haha

welcome to wakeskating. have fun.

Thank you, Mitch. That's exactly what I needed to hear.

BoardersBestBuy.com is where I saw the Deuce Pop, which made me want to start this thread. Even though it's a great price, I'm not 100% sold on it. I'm going to give it some thought today and I might pick it up tonight... It is an amazing deal!

might be to late to holla at you bout this one, but i got that exact deal off B.B.B. love the board to death its my 3 year riding, my brother just started wakeskating this season, can get up and throw down 1s and shuvs here and there on his oak and my old catalyst, not too often, but cannot get up everytime on my deuce pop. the weights extrmeley different and you really need to have experience to get up on it in my person experience. hope everything works out, and once your use to it youll love it.

Thanks for the feedback Johnny. I did end up buying the board and I love it. A friend I ride with has a Liquid Force Maven and I tried it out (no hatin'). I thought the feel of my board was a lot nicer, and I think it was mainly due to the weight difference.

I'm still working on the secondary riding positions and my ollie, but it's a ton a fun.
