thinking about doing a small mod to my teak deck. It has no hand grips and I was thinking about cutting small (2x) sections into it, but I didn't want to weaken the deck and I am not woodworker. Has anybody made any kind of mods?

Dont forget they can hurt as well as help. My wife was getting off the front of the boat, into the water, once and accidentally got a finger under the cleat............... Same would apply in this case as you go to slide off the swim deck, watch your fingers.

As long as you stay well within one slat, it shouldn't weaken the structure appreciably. Post a pic of your platform. I suck with a router, so I'd recommend making a template or guide first.

Bob - YEEOUCH! That had to hurt. Makes me pucker just thinking about it.

Kenny, take a look at a Calabria platform if you can. Calabria cuts an oval (in profile) groove that is about 1/4" deep, the entire width of the platfrom in the rearmost plank. The groove is about 3/4" forward of the trailing edge of the platform. It seems to work well enough for climbing in or hanging on while swimming around behind the boat.

It wouldn't take much woodworking skill to clamp down a straight edge and run a router across the platform.

Did this to my previous and current SN, so...9 years no problems.

that is exaclty what I was looking at doing but with 2 slots not 4. I was worried about the last board being weakened

95sn 07-14-2006 10:41 AM

Put one hand over one eye. magic, only 2 slots.

doesn't that promote teak surfin? lol

ghostrider_2 07-14-2006 12:39 PM

nope just easier for little ones to get on the deck from in the water. (including lazy people like me LOL)

never really got very clear what are those other two big "pockets" for, the ones on the platform against the transom. any ideas?

bocephus 07-14-2006 1:00 PM

On a Nautique they give access to the lifting rings.

95sn 07-14-2006 1:46 PM

Damn, i always thought they were for binding soap. j/k.

ghostrider_2 07-14-2006 2:13 PM

whats binding soap? I have the new Murray's

trace 07-14-2006 2:16 PM

Why do they put the cups under those lifting rings? (preventing use of transom tiedowns) I've also noticed a cup only on one side on newer CC's lately - ?

bocephus 07-14-2006 3:12 PM

The "cup holders" on the platform are there to help stop CO from coming up from the exhaust (I don't know how effective this is, and I didn't design it, but that is what they are there for). When strapping down the boat to the trailer you are suppose to use the platform bracket per CC, I asked! Sorry Trace I don't understand the last part of your question.

alright done with that , now its back to Home Depot as I am out of poly...

ghostrider_2 07-14-2006 5:13 PM

actually did it with my new Dremel kit (150+) that I got from Home depot for 29.99, they had the new stand with the wrong price so the manager had to honor it, but only 1 kit even thou I knew it was to good to be true I had 2 in my hands.
