Those of you who have done the lead (lead from the tire shops, etc) bags yourself, what bags did you use?

I put together some scrap steel (the punchings from a washer manufacturer) in 45 pound lots, we have a heavy duty plastic bag sealer at work, I double bagged it in plastic then sewed up some canvas bags with handles for the plastic bagged weight to go in. I like it so much I pulled out my lead bars and use the bags instead. I think I paid 10c a pound for the steel disks. I'll take some photos of them this weekend.

I got mine from pop products, well sorts from someone who had got them from PP. contact them and they will sell you just the bags.

Home depot has heavy duty bags

Ordered pop bags w/o weight. It was a couple years ago, but he only charged me like $6-7ea for bags and liners. They're nice and heavy duty and hold 45-50lbs of lead tire weights.

I found some canvas bags with zippers at Walmart or Lowes that hold about 35-40 lbs. Had 'em for several years now and move them around quite a bit. i think they were 2 or 3 bucks each.

I dont use bags but use the plastic jugs that protien powder (6 lbs) come in. They are durable and hold about 60 - 70lbs. I fill the voids in w/ sand. I duct tape the container for support.

Good luck on getting lead. It was banned for tire weights in CA. They are going to run out of old stock fast and the new stock on hand can not be used. The fines are $2500 per instance. <BR> <BR>Most wheel weights from the Japanese are zinc as are the European cars. Europe banned lead in 2005. <BR> <BR>On that note we just pulled around 30 pounds of lead off the bottom of the ocean to smelt down and pour into a form to make custom weights, and plan to do that as much as possible for little extra $$$

found a tire shop with mulitple 55 gallon drums filled with the tire lead weights. so far not a problem, I already 350lbs at my house.

Nacho no go at wal-mart.

Sears craftsman bags is what I landed. $10 each and will hold 50lbs. They've lasted 3 seasons.

A buddy of mine uses these military ammo cans that work well. They hold about 70 lbs and have a handle. Along the same line as Mike, there are Army surplus bags that carry a Tank Tool Kit. Typically it sells for a $1.00 a pound as scrap. There was someone on craiglist selling an entire sailboat keel of around 2 tons of lead.

Take everything you can get <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0> Then get your buddies to show up with some Monster drinks and load your bags for you in trade for some lead! I can not imagine how much one 55 barrel weights.

where do you take it? like the normal place for can and bottles?

the 5 gallon barrels weight 170lbs each. Thats is how much I get each time.
