I have a Clarion M475 HU and a wired remote at the drivers console. My wife has an older IPod that we had connected to HU via a Cnet cable. Everything worked great with her older Ipod.

My son just got a new ITouch (gen 3 I think) and everything works but we get a warning that "Charging is not supported with this accessory". Everything else works like it should

Is there an adapter or different cable I need to use so I can charge the ITouch through the CNet connection?

If i remember right it's due to the dropping of firewire support in Iphones and the last gens of iPods. Apple sells an adapter you hook to the phone/ipod and then connect the cable and it should work. I think it's called the Passport or something like that.

(Message edited by Razzman on January 28, 2010)

Sorry to hijack but, I think your question is answered. Has anyone used the CeNet cable with an iPhone 3g and the clarion cmd5?
|
Yes, ajholt, I use that setup in my boat. The iphone 3g (not 3gs) does the not supported, airplane mode thing and does not charge it but it plays and controls the unit just fine.

Thanks Razzman - I will hit the Apple store and pick one up.

Does it affect the quality of the music or anything else?
|
Not that i'm aware of. A buddy of mine got a new ipod and had to buy one for his setup and it sounds the same to me.

The lack of charging is due to the prong re-alignment. When the Itouch got slimmer and Apple began 2nd and 3rd generations, the changed the way the charging prongs inside aligned with the input. Older iPods will play and charge, new iPods will play only. That is, without the passport.

without passport, might need to get one of those
