I am looking at possibly purchasing a V-Ride 05 not currently equipped with a wedge and wakeboard racks. The transom has the factory bracket, but no wedge. How much am I looking at spending on a wedge and malibu wakeboard racks?

ttuclint 05-12-2008 8:59 PM

skip the wedge and load it with ballast bags.

snwmot 05-12-2008 9:32 PM

2nd what clint said the wedge is TOTALLY overrated! sack it out and you got a sick wake

jarrod 05-12-2008 9:39 PM

The wedge is a must for some of the malibu hulls, but for this one, I agree, weight it down heavy.

dhcomp 05-12-2008 10:19 PM

I disagree. For intermediate wakeboarding, you can't beat teh ease of use of the wedge. Not everyone needs a MASSIVE wedge, and even if that is what you want, the wedge is a good place to start.

Is it crazy expensive to put a power wedge on aftermarket or can it even be done?

curtisco24 05-13-2008 6:04 AM

for that hull the wedge makes it worse it my opinion. As stated above load it up and wake is great. Wedge on that boat makes a bucking, unpredictable wake.

cavlxenvy 05-13-2008 6:42 AM

If it has the plate already, its around $4-600. Some people like what the wedge does and others do not. I would try to find one to ride behind first. Some people like the ability to add/remove 1000 pounds in an instant.

To answer your question, if you already have the transom bracket, you are looking probably $250-$400 for the wedge only. There is one for sale on Ebay right now. Also you want the bent wedge for the vride, old vlx hull.

From my experience, if using the wedge, you need more weight up front to mellow it out a little.

loonytik 05-13-2008 7:31 AM

Ballast Bags and pumps. Dont worry about the wedge.

tj_in_kc 05-13-2008 7:33 AM

blonde - you can buy a brand new one from your local Malibu dealer for $500. This is for the lower half of the wedge only (must already have mounting bracket on transom)

Might be able to find a used one cheap on ebay, craigslist etc as others have said.

it will greatly increase the gas consumption on your Vride. i ride no wedge on my Vride and wake it pretty sic still.

tj_in_kc 05-13-2008 7:36 AM

Malibu (custom 30 degree angle) wakeboard racks are $550.00 each new from your local Malibu dealer.

rson 05-13-2008 7:58 AM

Blonde, your hull is based off the previous VLX Hull. It responds the best to a single 6-800 pound sac in the nose, MLS and no wedge. You will get a great rampy wake. If you want more vertical add more weight to the rear.

Gene, the powerwedge is only available when the boat is made due to minor differences in the mounting and electrical.

(Message edited by rson on May 13, 2008)

I have the same boat you are looking at, I put a 600# sack in the bow and you get a great wake. I rarely use the wedge.

malibudude 05-13-2008 12:16 PM

Gene,

The power wedge can't be added after the fact.

My buddies '03 has 750's in the rear, 600 in the front and the wedge the produces a sweet wake!

We have an 07 vRide, with a power wedge. I tend to like the wedge alot, with the stock ballast its quick and easy. Althou, without any ballast filled, the wedge full-up can get so steep, i slammed my nose through the wake while trying a normal w2w jump, got skyrocketed up high and landed straight on the back. So, the wedge makes the wake a little higher, but certainly steeper, you just need to find the correct balance between ballast/wedge and your wake is just awesome

another vote to weight it down, we hardly ever use our wedge. Got it for resale only.

westsidarider 05-14-2008 7:32 PM

the wedge on the v-ride makes a super steep wake that almost curls over at the top. much steeper than almost every boat out there. its like hitting a brick wall. you go straight up and straight down. makes it hard to do alot of tricks. if you want more wake out of it use fat sacks. i dont know your experience or riding ability but since your are asking this question and dont know already chances are you should have plenty of wake with the factory ballast.

curtisco24 05-15-2008 7:35 AM

new wedge 07 up is an idea if it will fit the bracket. It is free floating, and gives a much more predictable wake.

tsat 05-15-2008 10:39 AM

hey I have a malibu wedge in the box I will sell you find out what they cost and we can work a deal!

tsatre@charter.ne t
