I am thinking about painting my trailer this winter. What kind of paint should I use and can I use some type of spray paint? That will look ok?

im doing mine this winter and i am going to use Hammerite smooth in Black!!

I used hammerite smooth on my trailer. I thinned it out with some cellulose thinners and used a foam roller to apply. Came out almost as good as a spray job. <BR> <BR>There is rust showing through again seeing as I ride in saltwater but it looks better and will do for a few more years till I replace the trailer. <BR> <BR>Eric as your in the states Hammerite wont be readily available so any good polyeurothane paint will do the job. Remember the finish will only be as good as the preperation.

I just used rustoleum (primed and painted) in a can on mine and it came out nice. A little rub out and you'd never know. And after a years use every other weekend it still looks great. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by razzman on October 02, 2007)

On my second Line-X covered trailer and couldn't be happier. No rust, no scratches, no rock chips, and don't care if people grind crap into the fenders. When it gets dirty I power wash it at the car wash and spray it down with tire silicone. Silicone makes it look perfect. I'd never go back to regular paint after seeing the light.

2 years ago I had mine powder coated... couldn't be happier! And it was $400... keep in mind i prepped it myself though.

JAY where can I get the hammerite smooth? I am selling the boat in Feb so I am trying to get everything looking great but don't want to spend an arm and a leg to do it. I used Rustoleum Professional in spray cans available at Lowes or Home Depot, <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=95" target="_blank">http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=95</a> <BR> <BR>I first sanded it down where needed, then used a scotchbrite pad to rough the entire surface. then i sprayed all areas that needed priming with Rustoleum Professional Primer. After it had dried i used the Proffessional enamel and put two good coats on it. It took about eight cans if i remember right not including two or three of primer. <BR> <BR>After it dried there were rough areas from fogging because it got windy half way through the job so i used rubbing compound a week later to clean 'em up. If your good with a spray can you'll never know the diff. <BR> <BR>I renovated the entire trailer, here's a few shots to show how it came out. Hammerite is distributed by masterchem in the US. <a href="http://www.masterchem.com" target="_blank">http://www.masterchem.com</a> <BR> <BR>Hammerite isn't cheap in the UK. I took 4 litres (about a gallon to do mine) and it worked out about £60 ($120) with thinners. If you just want it cheap to tidy the trailer up to sell I'd just rattle can it. <BR> <BR>If your looking for a good long term coating though I would consider line-x. Its super tuff although not really that pleasing on the eye.

That is good work on the trailer razzman. It looks new!!
