I have been subscribing to Rhapsody for the last year and a half, and I want something new. I like the interface of Rhapsody and the ease of use, but linking my mp3 players is a pain. I constantly have transfer errors and their customer service is some of the worst I have ever encountered.

Is there another viable option? Rather than "renting" my music as I have been doing with Rhapsody I am fine purchasing. I would like to be able to sample songs from new bands before purchasing. I also have a vast CD collection I would like to have access to as well (mainly to build play lists and store them on my computer). Does anyone have any ideas?

And please don't suggest i-tunes. I would rather go back to cassette tapes than deal with that.

Amazon.com maybe? 128 kb/s mp3 files I believe. You buy 'em, you own 'em.

If I am buying some popular music I go to Amazon.

isohunt.com for free stuff

I really loved Imesh... its a rental type service but then you go do the following:

Download a program called "TUNE BITE"
Then set it up, you'll put in all the songs you want it to convert (e.i. your whole music library) and it basically plays the song and re-records it (like if you held up a microphone to the radio) but only perfect quality.... so the new version doesn't have the protection on it and is good to go for life/mp3 player/cd/etc

Its a great way to do it... music people get their money (only costing you like $5 a month) and you get all the music you can handle and aren't stuck to subscription stuff

** and the re-recording process depends on your sound card... my computer will do like 10 songs at once at 2x speed.... I usually just let it go all night and it was fine**

(Message edited by sidekicknicholas on February 21, 2010)

After I got screwed by Yahoo, I now use Itunes. No issues yet. When I want to use a song for a video, or something else, I just run it though my free converter. Of coure, the whole time I was with Yahoo, my oldest son asked why not Itunes.
