This is my first year wakeboarding and I am progressing pretty fast. The most difficult trick I can land consistantly is a tantrum....I am currently riding at 55' on an accurate jacket line... <BR> <BR>What will moving out in length provide? <BR>Does it make sense to move it back yet?

Any thoughts....anyone?

55'??? whoa, that's seriously old school (not that there's anything wrong with that). What speed are you riding? <BR> <BR>You get more hangtime with a longer rope. may have to adjust speed/weight (a little faster/little more weight) to get the wake's "sweet spot" there. <BR> <BR>One trick is to let the rope out, get the boat up to your (comfortable) speed, and look to where the largest part of the wake is (before it crusts over). That is how long (or how much longer) your rope should be.

Wow 55 ft. Thats really short ! Try 75 or 80 ft. Unless Your wake is washed out at the length.

While wake-break is a factor it is not the only criteria. Before anyone can answer a question on rope length, they need to know if the rope is mounted to a tower/pylon or a ski-eye on the transom. <BR>This alone will make a difference of about 7 to 10 ft.. <BR> <BR>55 feet is not unheard of for riding behind an I/O with the rope on the transom. <BR> <BR>Why do you think rope makers have 3 section wakeboard ropes? <BR>It is not for running 15 off through the buoys.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/smile.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by wakecord on October 16, 2004)

I would test your control at 70'. If you feel like you can manage the extra hang time, go for 75-80'. 20 more feet of rope may feel akward at first.

The obvious difference with going farther back is that the wake gets wider. A less obvious difference is that the shape of the wake changes. <BR> <BR>Close to the boat the wake tends to be taller and a lot steeper. While it gives the beginner the comfort of knowing that the landing zone isn't so far away it also forces the beginner to deal with a lot harder pop than he might otherwise have to deal with. <BR> <BR>Kieth, if you are landing a tantrum then you shouldn't have any trouble riding farther back. In fact, you might enjoy it more. <BR> <BR>Rod

If you have a tower, I'd go with 70 or even 75.
