partydock17 03-30-2005 7:35 AM

You could give Lessons. I don't know if you could ever make enough money though.

flux 03-30-2005 7:58 AM

Smuggler.

peterd 03-30-2005 8:43 AM

It ain't about the money, its about the chicks.... just kidding.

face_smash 03-30-2005 9:05 AM

Drug runner!!

whit 03-30-2005 9:18 AM

Fishing... Get a few drag nets--you'll be all set...

whit 03-30-2005 9:19 AM

Forgot about lobstering. Pulling up pots is a lot easier than pulling in nets!

bummerkit 03-30-2005 9:23 AM

I could give lessons, not a bad idea.

Not sure if i could make money "smuggling" stuff the 1.5 miles to the other end of the lake...

Fishing.. dont want my boat to smell like fish...

is it possible to make any money by organizing a local competition?

(Message edited by bummerkit on March 30, 2005)

basically im thinking about buying a Malibu LSV, and i am trying to figure out if there is any way to help it pay for itself, or atleast pay for gas to run the boat.

03-30-2005 9:30 AM

Get a bunch of coolers. Buy ice for $1.00 a bag at the gas station, then sell it for $5.00 a bag on the lake. Cha Ching!

pierce_bronkite 03-30-2005 9:34 AM

Quinn, if your buying a boat and trying to figure ways to pay for itself I would say your going to be out of luck. Boats are expensive toys, you have to consider gas, maintenance, insurance and storage(if that applies) on top of gear for the boat, ie fenders , anchors, ropes, wakeboards, etc. The list goes on and on and you are forever dumping money in to it. I am not trying to discourage you but if you don't have the money don't buy it, it will be more than you bargained for. Just take in to consideration of how much the sport costs and budget accordingly. .

There was a guy that pitched his Malibu on ebay as an advertising billboard. He offered put the large sheet vinyl stickers all over his boat with the buyer's logo for 1 year.

bummerkit 03-30-2005 9:39 AM

im not trying to get it to actually pay for itself. Im just trying to figure out how to defray the cost a bit.

did that work out for the guy on ebay? ive actually thought about doing that myself. we go to lake powell at least 6 times a year, and im on my local lake at least 2-3 times a week. so it would be pretty good exposer..

NONE of any kind worst investment you can make unless you just love boating.

erik_c 03-30-2005 11:12 AM

I tried to get Bill Gates to give me money for a boat once, I said I would start a charity and take iner-city kids out and teach them to wake board. Some one from his charity actually e mailed me back they said no dice, worth a try though.

Remember--Boat is like Laser and Radar--it is an acronym. Break Out Another Thousand...

aaronlee13 03-30-2005 12:43 PM

Bang boat!

sloshake 03-30-2005 12:45 PM

If you dont mind putting it in salt water, you could run an off-shore gambling cruise.

bronco991 03-30-2005 1:12 PM

Gerald where do you go wakeboarding? I go to Lake Anna, I live in rockville too

monstertower 03-30-2005 7:46 PM

I know several people that have started "companies" making tower speakers, light bars, tower dance poles , clothing companies and many other things around wakeboarding. Even if the "business" does not do well you can write off a lot of the expenses.

If you can figure out a way to buy a boat and make money with it I'll be the first to buy the franchise in my area.

norcalmalibu 03-30-2005 8:37 PM

Alee~ someone already stole your idea, Captian Stabbin.

jcrider 03-30-2005 9:20 PM

You could
a:Set up 1-2 days a week (if you dont have a full time job) and Chueffer around tourists or people who want to rent a boat w/captian for riding. Probably more work than its worth or:
b: Hire some strippers, set up a web site geared towards men 20-50 yrs. and offer a day on the lake "pleasure boating". The boat can fit up to 14 people, so say you and (2) ladies and maybe 7-10 guys @ $200 a pop! Set up some sandwiches/beverages for around $100 per day. I think you would have alot of takers. Figure your overhead of gas :$100, Girls, $300 (they will make up the difference on tips) $100 on food items. you go out for 4-5 hours and designate times for riding/skiing. Maybe a lunchtime "show"
figure you have a 9 hour day and net between $900 and $1500 per day! I do however suggest you get the optional carpet saver w/boat.Not only could you make some good cash but Im guessing pretty popular and have plenty of people who would like to come on as a "deck hand" for swabbing, etc. possibly for free! However if this is a moral issue then you can go my route and take the state tax break on the sales tax end. My new Vlx is coming in around $3625 in sales tax! The only reason I dont do plan b even though I just thought it up was because I dont think it would go over to well with my wife. Go figure! As Pierce mentioned and by the amount it sounds like your are going out you better have a realistic plan just for gas alone! Have fun and let us know what the websites called.

tigebob 03-30-2005 9:49 PM

During the summer we make a little extra money by sellin beer to all the other people at the lake who have run out, sellin natty light for a dollar a can makes a hella profit.

erik_c 03-31-2005 11:54 AM

A Friend of mine has a houde on the water and he bought a resturant style ice maker. And pays for gas buy selling the ice out at ski beach.

bummerkit 03-31-2005 12:16 PM

houde?

wakeguru 03-31-2005 12:35 PM

Ha Ha..."natty light for a dollar a can". It must be a hike to the damn store.

Laser and Radar are acronyms?

tigejohn21i 03-31-2005 1:19 PM

RADAR: Radio Angle Detection And Ranging
LASER: Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation

buzz_grande 03-31-2005 2:03 PM

Thinking about advertising for a local strip club. Get the girls for a "ride-a-long"
and do a few laps around the lake. Yea, that would work. If not, had a good time anyway!

PS - no wonder I am broke! At least I have fun!

tigebob 03-31-2005 2:09 PM

Yeah it is a hella of a hike to the liquor store from our lake, The lake is in a dry county and i think the nearest liquor store around is 45 mins away. people get out there on holiday weekends and run out, they tend to get very desperate for more beer
