Is Wetsounds coming out with a REV 485?

I thought I heard a while back they were going to come out with a rev version of the 485 using 10" speakers. Just wondering if anybody has heard anything about this or if I am mistaken.

brett33 11-09-2011 8:08 AM

I heard the same thing. Probably expect to see it once winter starts winding down..

corerider 11-09-2011 9:10 AM

Word from WS is to expect something around Feb/Mar of 2012. I'm patiently waiting too... :D

h20king 11-09-2011 6:27 PM

The sooner the better so I have time to sell my 485's and make the upgrade

cowwboy 11-09-2011 7:00 PM

Same here. Debating if I should dump mine to anticipate the new before everyone elses hits the market.

CobraRob 11-09-2011 7:36 PM

Have the money in the bank waiting for 2 sets of these as well along with the amps to power. :D

Hope to see something early enough to get done when I can back from Asia.

hatepain 11-10-2011 12:36 PM

2 sets?! 4 in total?

UNvisible 11-10-2011 1:21 PM

patiently waiting. I am going to sell my 485's soon in anticipation....

duffymahoney 11-10-2011 1:23 PM

I can't wait for NVS or Wetsounds to make 12"s! Might as well go bigger:)

murphy_smith 11-10-2011 1:36 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Wetsounds came out with some other stuff as well. ;)

11-14-2011 10:27 AM

They will be releasing the hydrous line early 12. I know it consists of more budget friendly amps, not sure about speskers.

Pretty sure that was probably meant to be kept a secret :confused::confused:

Brendon444 11-28-2011 1:46 AM

to the top! confused. thought i had it all figured out. ( pair pro485 with syn4) for my winter project. Or do I go with the rev 10's wait for the rev485!
1. Syn4 with pair Pro485 -$2400
2. 2-Syn4 2pair rev 10's - $3500
3. 2-syn4, pro485, pair rev 10's - $3250 (feed the extra 400watts from one syn4 to one of my subs for more power)

Will I be happy with pro485's this will be my first build want to do it right.

corerider 11-28-2011 5:20 AM

You really might want to wait a few more months till WS releases some more info on the 485 replacement with Rev series technology. You can't go wrong with a pair of 485's, but it would suck to install those and a few months later they come out with something better for not much more money. This is why I'm waiting till Spring. If they don't release anything by mid-Spring I will probably just go with 485's.

FWIW, 2 pair of Rev 10's would scream if you have that kind of disposible income.

tn_rider 11-28-2011 5:48 AM

So tell me this, what would you do if it were you. Three pairs of REV8 or two pair of REV10?

david_e_m 11-28-2011 6:38 AM

Three pair of REV8s or two pair of REV10s?
So strictly by the numbers here...as you keep adding REV8s you keep getting louder. But ten REV8s will go no lower in the midbass than will a single REV8 although the midbass dynamics will still continue to get more intense based on the added surface area. A REV10 inherently has a little deeper midbass extension due to the larger driver plus larger pod displacement.
Obviously you are looking for loud with either line up. From tip to tip of moving cone and surround the surface area of three pair of REV8s will be slightly less than two pair of REV10s. So in terms of surface area that equates to volume, the REV10 scenario has a very slight edge.
Also consider that in most speaker to amplifier relationships its going to be more cost-effective to power two pair versus three pair. Three pair can be an odd mix of conductors up the tower, impedance load and channels.
You may have other overriding objectives like for example the way it may appear on the tower. I wouldn't have an issue going either way in that case.

tx_foilhead 11-28-2011 1:45 PM

Why not a pair of Rev 10's and then wait for something new? Then when the Rev 485 comes along your ready for the Rev 3some, you could even go ahead and mount 2 Syn4's so all you have left is to bolt the new one and tune it a bit.

duffymahoney 11-28-2011 2:42 PM

I think my pair of rev 10's would give a pair of 485s a run for their money. I think a rev 485 threesome someday would be amazing, but probably a giant overkill:)

h20king 11-28-2011 6:06 PM

We had a video contest on the crew here are a couple links one showing four Rev 10's and one showing my set of 485's you be the judge. My ear would pick the 485's all day long but sound is subjective. One set of rev 10's will not hang with a set of 485's no way no how

Brendon444 11-28-2011 10:54 PM

Those 485's sounds great to me but its always hard to tell from a video. Hoping my system will be similar to that and i will be very happy.

Currently bought/have: alpine 9886 deck , 2 pair exile sx65's and jl audio mhd900/5
So 100 watts to each sx65 and 500 to a sub. Still wondering what would be a good sub to use powered by this amp with only 500 watts. Will probably be using a jl sub. Any suggestions. Better to use one sub capable of running 500 rms or 2 subs with 250 rms to each? sorry for all the questions. just want to do it right.

mikeski 11-28-2011 11:20 PM

Rev-410 is likely what they will be called if they do build them and if they stay within the naming conventions.

duffymahoney 11-29-2011 8:37 AM

I really like the added mid bass of a 10" speaker. Wetsounds made an amazing product with the REV series. I can't wait for the 12" tower speakers to start coming out. Bigger is better:)

david_e_m 11-29-2011 8:50 AM

12" HLCD tower speakers? YES!!! But, you would have to double the pod displacement for the midbass to sound right and that could be a bit of an issue.

^^^^^ dang! I would pick up a Set of those if they were the illusion x tower speakers..

wetsounds1 01-05-2012 8:53 AM

DC,

All of the REV speakers can be converted to an X style mount with our adapter kit. $59 pair. All REV's can use either the fixed clamps, swivel clamps or X direct mount kits. Also, the swivels have a removable base plate that lets you direct mount the base plate to an Illusion tower. So you get a direct Illusion mount but still maintain the swivel and quick release functions. So you could get the swivel clamp versions and use them right now!.

As for the OP. My lips are sealed. But i can say 2012 is going to be exciting and LOUD!!

Any idea on price for Rev410?

UNvisible 02-02-2012 6:58 AM

I would guess they will be right at about $2200 a pair retail.

Brendon444 02-02-2012 7:33 AM

Be nice if they would keep the prices under 1000 each, seems like each year its another 100-200 more for the next new and improved. Maybe lower the prices of the older models and to keep new model prices similar would be nice? Guess its a dream.

Well just heard from a local guy say 2nd quarter and the prices seem to be about the same increase as the rev 10's-8's.

corerider 03-08-2012 4:27 AM

So to add fuel to the fire and I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, but I talked with Justin at WS yesterday about the Rev410 because I had a few questions that were on my mind.

1 - Still no official release date, other than about 45 days out which puts them April/May.
2 - If you really want them put in your order early. Pro485's are on backorder along with a few other items.
3 - The Rev410 will come with the newer style mounts. Justin wasn't sure if they could convert back to the TC2 style mount, but the Pro485 will still be TC2.
4 - Here's the biggie! The Syn4 would power these just like the Pro485 (400 x 2), but they are recommending a Syn2 bridged per pod. 700w x 1 for the Rev410!

So basically any of you who are in my position running a Syn4 or equivalent will do just fine running a pair of 410's, but if you really want the true potential out of them better crack open another piggy bank and get you a pair of Syn2's. I can't even fathom what 1400w on the tower would sound like.

h20king 03-08-2012 5:55 AM

Man 45 days.We start surfing next month. Why such a late release?? the revs were late last year as well. I am ready to pre order now just waiting on Tim to say go

cowwboy 03-08-2012 7:33 AM

It doesn't make to sense to me either.
Everyone knows memorial day is the big kick off for summer.
Yet the rev 10's were not released till after.
Personally I would have released them during boat show season instead of holding back till early - mid summer.

bzubke1 03-08-2012 7:45 AM

At least they didn't release them before they felt they were putting out the best possible product. It would suck if you got some brand new speakers and then ended up with defects and had to send them back.

wetsounds1 03-08-2012 7:54 AM

Hi guys,

I plan on doing a full press release soon with information and pictures but since there are so many waiting, I figured i would fill ya'll in.

Yes there is a REV 410 as everyone knows is coming. The REV 410 is using our “Rev Tec” technology as in the REV 8 and REV 10. The REV 410 will have dual 10 inch mid bass drivers with a large HLCD in the center like the PRO 485. The back end of the housing is the same as the PRO 485. So the size is the same with the exception of the larger front baffle to fit the larger drivers. Like the REV 10 and PRO 80 share the same back end of the housing but the REV 10 has a newer front baffle for the larger driver and the REV 8 and PRO 60 share the same back end as well. The REV 410 will ship with the new TC3 fixed clamps and offer lower hang height than a PRO 485 even with 10 inch drivers. You can also get the REV 410 with the TC3 swivel clamps if you want to remove the speaker or have a tower with some curve to it and make it fit on the curve.

400 watts RMS is the min so a SYN-4 is the perfect match for the REV 410 as it was with the PRO 485. However the REV 410 can handle a ton of power. We had a lot of customers running the dual SYN-2 amps to a pair of PRO 485 already, so the same goes for the REV 410, dual SYN-2 is you want to take it to the limit! But not a necessity, but they can take it.

The sound is truly unbelievable. The amount of mid bass and volume is just flat out insane. But like the other REV speakers, they are full and smooth and have such a sweet balance.

The REV 410 will be shipping the second or third week of april. We are taking pre orders now. REV 410 MSRP for fixed clamp is $1149 each and with swivel clamps is $1299 each.

As with any new product they always take longer than we would like. This has been a long process in design and tooling like the other REV’s and there are just some things we cannot control when it comes to getting raw materials and parts to build. We too had hoped to have these out at the first of the year for boat show season but it just didn’t work out, as we were delayed for this part and then delayed for that raw material etc...but trust me I am working on this daily and these will be ready very soon. They are worth the wait.

tn_rider 03-08-2012 8:04 AM

Tim, how would you say these stack up against the REV 10's??

brett33 03-08-2012 8:11 AM

yeah, say (4) REV 10s versus a pair of REV410s

wetsounds1 03-08-2012 8:31 AM

It's really two different animals like the PRO 485 pair versus 4 PRO 80's. Since the shape of the REV 410 is larger and doesnt fit as many towers. It really gets down to application. I also see a lot of the new REV 3-Some being done with a single REV 410 and pair of REV 10 for the towers that cannot fit a pair of REV 410. So certain towers with a solid pipe that could fit a pair of REV 410 or could fit 2 pairs of REV 10 Like the supra tower or mastercraft tower. I would run the pair of REV 410. But there are some that prefer the look of the 4 can style so 4 REV 10 would be what they would run on those same towers. On a Malibu G3 tower. 4 REV 10's would be the best set up, as they mount on the sides in the factory locations. So I would say either set up represents IMHO the benchmark for what fits your tower and your style.

corerider 03-08-2012 9:23 AM

Tim, the biggest question I have is can you order the Rev410 with the older TC2 style clamps instead of the TC3? Nothing against the TC3, but just about all the features it offers are useless for me with the older SAN FCT2. I can't use the through clamp wiring, don't need the swivel, and don't require the quick disconnect feature. I also like the TC2 clamp better because of the inserts. I'm also not real big on having metal on metal contact scratching the powder coat on the tower.

Basically, can we order with the TC2 clamps, or do we have to get the clamps separate and swap them in the field?

wetsounds1 03-08-2012 1:42 PM

jason,

The REV 410 will not work with the TC2 clamps as the housings are built without the location for the neutik. As mentioned, you can purchase the REV 410 with the fixed clamps. Only thing you would need to do is drill a small hole in two locations (one per speaker) for the wire to go into the pipe. This would give you a much lower hang height than with the TC2 clamps as well and no wires out of the tower. As for the metal on metal, we can get you some of the rubber tape that is attached to the tower that wraps the tower and protects the finish.

corerider 03-08-2012 1:55 PM

Tim,

I talked some with John today and found out what you already said. I'm just going to have to deal with that I guess. I already have holes in the forward tube on my tower though and will have to use them. I'll just come up with a way to connect the wiring once I get the speakers and look at the clamps. May just have to pull the wiring out of the clamp all together and get the Neutrik connectors like the 485. Hopefully the provision will still be there like on the Rev8 & 10.

I made my order today so now I just have to patiently wait... :banghead:

Brendon444 03-08-2012 5:14 PM

Finally some good news about the rev 410. Thanks tim. Stupid question im sure but is there a way to wire dual 410's or 485's for 2 ohm. Im thinking not, however im just curious because I already have an Arc Audio ks 600.2 from chris which is rated:
400x2 4ohm
600x2 2ohn
1200x1 bridged 4ohm also I think.
