Tomorrow could be my 1st chance to wakeskate. I already wakeboard and skateboard and wanted to know if anyone out there had any advice on how to get up and if shuvits are similar to skateboarding or way different on a wakeskate.

I found some movies online at www.wakeskating.com that show 2 methods of getting up...just wanted to hear some advice from others as well to combine it all into one big ball of confusion. LOL

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I've found that getting up just like a wakeboard is the easiest; once the boat starts going forward the board will just stick to your feet. As far a shuvits go, I can pop my shuvits about a foot and a half off the ground and catch them in the air on a skateboard, but when it comes to wakeskating its a bit harder. I can land a shuv without popping it that much, but to get consistant with shuv/flip tricks its best to learn behind a PWC because, well, you fall alot

No, no, no. The best and easiest way is the deep water start. Push the board under water and stand on it. When you get balanced, draw your knees closer to your body. Bend your ankles slightly up at an angle and signal for the driver to pull the slack. When you feel balanced, tell the driver to hit it and you will pop right out of the water, and then turn and rip. This is so much easier than fighting with the board in front of you. For me anyway, I've done both.

Thank you to those who posted. I had the best time! I didn't get up my 1st time but got up after that. I tried the feet on top of the board start and it worked great. Wakeskating is so much fun and I learned right away that you don't edge on the wakeskate the same way you do on a wakeboard. The superman-bellyflop was a good reminder of that. Now I want to buy my 1st wakeskate because I had so much fun and want to learn more. The wakeskate I got to ride was the 2006 LF Melissa 41. Thanks again Maven, Malibu Rocky, and Wintersport for giving me the opportunity to try wakeskating.
