I am on the hunt - 23ft V-drive
I am starting my hunt for a newer boat. Sold my 27 foot Crownline two summers ago and have been regretting it ever since. So, I need some help. I am in Phoenix, AZ and looking for a 23 foot v-drive. I want something that is 2005 and newer. Has to be a v-drive with wrap around seating. Must be 100" wide at a minimum. It has to have a light color interior - whiter the better (phx sun is brutal). No dark color boats either, and no red. I can't believe how many boats for sale right now are red. So, price - $45000 or lower, preferably lower. I am willing to travel a 1000 mile radius for the right boat (last four boats I have bought in California). I am aware of boulder boats and all of the Phoenix boats. Also seen some in Utah that are interesting. If anyone sees anything interesting, please post up a link. Thanks for the help. I need this by February 2012.

Great. Keep them coming. There are about 10 of those I had not seen before.
|
I almost could have offered you a boat, I have an 03 X30 I am selling.
good luck with you search. |
|
You didn't say what you would be using the boat for mostly. That would make a difference as to which boat to steer you towards. If you are just Ski Skiing and wakeboarding that would be one type of boat. If you are wakesurfing mostly that would be another type of boat. Just a thought anyway.

You are not to far off a brand new MB - Might be worth a look anyways - Maybe they have a 2010 or 2011 they are getting rid of it. Probably more in the 21' price range, but worth a shot.
Otherwise onlinboards.com is the place to go. |

New Malibu V Ride 23'?
Or a New Sanger V237? How about someone (who knows) post some prices on the new mb's? I would believe that Sanger's are less than MB's and the V-ride is about 50k...but none of these companies put prices it seems. At 45k, he may just want to go new...but then again, once you add full wetsounds, and whatever other options, what does that MB really cost? |
Just noticed MB actually puts prices...and it appears that 63k is the entry boat price...:eek::eek:

What 2011 MAstercraft did you get for around 60k? How was it equipped?
|
Mastercraft X2.
ballast, zero off, I got it without the touch screen, just old fashioned gages, Attitude plate, fly high system, standard stereo(upgraded after the fact), dual batteries, tower, swivel clamp style board/surf racks, pretty much the baseline most basic X2 you can find. Pic below of the boat I bought. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...%20X2/pic2.jpg |
Beauty for 60K. Factory order 2012's were at 72 loaded, minus pro package (7K) and a couple other options, 60K is about where you'd end up at. You could prob order a X25 bare bones for 70K.
|
wow, I think you got a really good deal. I doubt 60k for that boat is normal. I would guess that is around 80k in Seattle and maybe down to 70k at the end of the year. A similar equipped Tocmat 21 or TWB21 was probably mid 50's-60 during the season and probably around 50k at the end of the season.
Great looking boat. |
Thanks for the compliments.
I probably did get a good deal, end of season, it was the 2011 not the 12. The 12's went up I believe 12%. My main surprise was that I always hear how some other boats are 20-30k less expensive than Mastercraft, when I saw the price of the other boats I was just surprised. I suppose I should just take my good deal and enjoy the lake. |
Cole K,
I was just up to REBOATS UTAH. They have some SWEET MB boats that are in your price range (especially their demo 2012 boat). They are some of the nicest down to earth dealers I have ever met. 801-224-6333 www.reboatsutah.com |
Thanks for all of the replies. I have been to all of the boat dealerships here in town (last three days). Nothing local that I think is worth it. I think I am going to try and head up to boulder boats in Nevada next week. I still have a few more months. Hopefully something will pop up soon. Again, thanks and keep them coming. Funny how I look and look and then someone posts something I have never seen.

Forgot to mention in the last post - after showing my wife the difference between 98ish inches to 102 inches, I now know 102 inches is for us.

Don't get caught up in the MSRP shown on the MB site. It's "suggested, retail price." I know there are MB dealers making great deals on both new 2012's, and used boats as well. And I do believe if you were to contact Reboats, Utah, you'd be glad you made the call. They are great to work with, and will gladly give you the straight scoop on what can be done, and for what price.
Good luck in your search! |
Wrong end of the country but I have the web site / brochure 2012 Tomcat F21 that was my demo this summer, loaded with WS tower speaks, underwater transome LED's, metal flake X and more at a deal real close, 85hrs, hit me up
|
Check marinemax in Tempe. I met the owner and his son at the Malibu dealer meeting this weekend. Both really good guys. I'm sure they can help you find a 23 in your area
|
Try MB Sport for your next purchase. MB boats throw world class wakes, are extremely big and roomy inside, and provide big three style and quality without the big three price. Reboats out of Utah would be glad to talk to you about your next boat purchase.

I have never been in an MB boat. I don't believe there are any dealers around where I live, the market is pretty much saturated with MC, CC and Malibu. Quite a few supra's showing up the last few years as well.
Some day I am going to head out to where one of you guys live and get a ride behind an MB. With as much positive feedback as there is on this board I feel like I really need to at least ride behind one. |

I have the plane tickets to go look at a few boats in Vegas, but then today I see there is a 2007 Malibu 23 LSV with decent hours a few blocks from me for $40K. Is this a good price? I did some quick searches on craigslist and boat trader. If it is in good shape and fits in my garage, I will probably buy it. Just looking for a price check.

Im in Phoenix, and was going put this up for $51k in Jan . It does not meet your criteria but i am local so im just throwing it out there.
2006 lsv, 400 hp, w/ every option. around the 200hr mark. shoot me an email if you want ti check it out. email: cccbuilders@msn.com |
I am about to pass on the 2007 Malibu 23 LSV. I will post a link to it on Craigslist. My reason is my wife didn't feel warm and fuzzy about it. Now, before anyone says I am a jackass, let me tell you about the last time I bought something she didn't feel warm and fuzzy about. First, it was the brand new Honda Civic. It had 9 miles on it and I have never had a car in the shop more than that one. Biggest lemon I have ever had. There have been other times as well, but the last one was just 6 months ago. Droid X phone - had it replaced twice, kept on shutting down on it's own, kept on telling me I didn't have enough memory even though I had 8 extra gig's. So, I have learned that I get the final buy off from her before making large purchases. She is just lucky that way, like a rabbits foot or something.
Now, the boat - very good condition. It had just under 130 hours on the motor, 4 ballast tanks, hull had a few minor, minor scratches (looked like the carpet might need to be replaced on the bunks. Started right up and ran great. Checked the oil and it looked great. There was one minor 1/2 inch scratch on the rear seat, right next to the lower ski tow. Looked like it was repaired a little, but could be a little better. Other than that, it looked really good. As soon as I press post on here, I am going to send the guy a note saying I am passing. Hope this helps someone. Here is the link http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/boa/2725585699.html |
Cole, too bad that LSV is dead sexy. I would probably design one exactly like it as far as colors go. It has the wake hull, power wedge and 4 tank ballast. Those are the 3 main options. While the 340hp isn't really overpower it will be perfect for everything unless you decide to throw 4000 pounds in it. Even though I can't see them itsounds like the imperfections are pretty minor and things that are almost impossible to avoid.

Still looking. Less boats getting listed in the last couple of weeks. I am headed to Vegas tomorrow morning to look at a couple.
|
What a bust of a day. Looked at a few boats today at boulder boats. Looked great in pictures, needed a lot more work than I was wiling to put in. Seriously disappointed. Casino took a small fee too.
|
Cole, it sounds like you and yoru wife are insanely anal and picky. I don't mean any offense by that by the way. You just sounds like someone who must take excellent care of their stuff and not willing to buy something that isn't really well cared for. It is goin gto be hard to find the size boats you are talking about, in the colors you want, in that kind of shape and at the price you want. You may be better off bumping your price range up a little and buying new. From your posts it jsut seems like you are going to be really unhappy with a used boat that has some imperfections. One thing I would adjust is your thinking that you just need something that is 23'. There are some manufacturers that make 21' boats(MB TWB or 21 tomcat, Calabria Pro V) that are the size of some others 23' boats. If you were to expand your price range to 50-60k I think you could open yourself up to any of the MB's, Axis A22, Moomba XLV, Sanger V237, Epic 23, maybe a Malibu Ride 23 and maybe a couple others. I just say that because then you can probably order the exact boat you want and it will be brand new. Even though I haven't done it for myself I have helped some people buy Mastercrafts and gone through the process of picking the model, picking colors, options, etc.. and then seeing it brand new. If you went this way you could probably go visit the factory and see yours or others built and speek to those directly involved.
Although I like the wedge I am not sure that would be at the top of my priority list. If it is the only boats you can look at are Malibu's and Axis'. A lot of these boats use different ballast systems in different weight amounts so some need extra weight, wedge and some don't. The other advantage of buying a new boat is you may save yourself a lot of travel expenses. It sounds like you are spending a lot on traveling looking at boats. You might increase your budget to get new and not spend much more then you would for the perfect used boat with all the travel expenses. Just a thought. |
here are a couple of boats I foudn on onlyinboards that close to your price. One is brand new, the other is near new and the owner is on wakeworld. It sounds like he 100% babies his stuff.

They had this boat (http://www.boulderboats.com/new_vehi...79&pov=2435626 ) that I looked at. Red and 22 foot, not what I was looking for, but I was there. I don't know what someone was thinking, but the fiberglass near the drivers side walk through had huge scratches that went through the red and into the white fiberglass. The scratches were on both sides but mainly on the drivers side and are 2 feet long. Who does that? How does someone see that start and then change their ways? The third boat was (http://www.boulderboats.com/pre_owne...R0&veh=2315985 ) and was in fairly good shape. The main problem with it was the tower has a crack at the weld on the top of the tower. You could try and weld it again, but it will forever stick out like a sore thumb. The only other thing I didn't like about it was it felt really cheap. I have owned a couple of Sangers (old flat bottom v-drives), but this boat just felt like a Bayliner inside the interior. As to the other points, I don't think I will change my standards. I think a boat for the price range I am looking at should be well kept and not need a bunch of work for me to use it. I am not looking at the 10-15k range here, I am looking at 7 year old and newer boats in the 35-45K range. I also do not think I should pay more than I can afford and get a 2 foot shorter boat to boot. I may have to wait a couple more months and fly around looking at boats, but that is still cheaper than paying 10k more and not getting the size I want. I have been through this before and I know I will have to wait a little longer. I really did look at everything you mentioned before I got into this. I decided back that I would not compromise and I will get exactly what I want or I won't buy. It's winter and this is just how it goes. Always has, probably always will. |

Fair enough, I was just throwing out ideas. Sounds to me like your perfect boat would be a Malibu 23LSV or Vride 23. They are the only 23' boats that have the wedge. |

You may or may not already have considered this, but if you could stretch your budget out to $52-55k, you could maybe get into an 2008/2009 Super Air Nautique 230....it's an amazing machine.

One more vote for the white '07 Bu, beautiful boat. Made me warm and fuzzy.

Like Jay said, if you can find a Nautique 230 or 236(same boat) for 45-50 that would be a great option.

Also went to a different dealer and am going to go look at a 2012 MB 21 Tomcat. They said they could get it ordered for $50K. They had none on the lot and I would need to see one in person to see if it was big enough. That is 5K more than I wanted to spend, but my wallet armor may be cracking a little. They also had a 2011 B52 Wide Body on the lot. It was really nice and they said they could come down to the lower 50K's. It was nice, but I already was over what I originally wanted to pay and over the 50K's is not going in the right direction. Last but certainly not least I am still talking with Jacob on the his Epic. I think we are getting closer on that as well. I am not ready to sign the paperwork quite yet, but it is definitely one of the highest boats on the list. Now I need to get back to the list you posted. Thanks again for the help. |
I think I have finally found the model boat I want. 2006 Nautique 220/230/236. I like the newer than 2006 as well, but the main factor I really like about the 2006 is the pods on both sides of the interior. I am still keeping an open mind, but these are really cool. I have found a few and am talking with a few people.
I had to pass on Jakes 2011 Epic today. There is no way it would fit in my garage. It is 90 inches with the tower folded and I will be using grease to get 86 inches to fit. |
Each of those Nautiques are great boats. IMO the wake behind the 230/236 is a few notches better than the 220, but they are all still good. Check out the video of my girlfriend, friend and I....all the riding is behind a 230. I've been behind many many boats, both slammed and not slammed (XStar, X25, VLXs, LSVs, Axis's, Epics...the list goes on), and in my opinion the SAN 230 (236 is the same hull) tops them all (both wake and surf). Yes, I know that opinions on wake are very subjective, and mine is no different...I just think it's a perfect blend of rampy/vertical, and it gets BEEFY! You can see just how big it is at the 1:23 mark :)
http://vimeo.com/32010190 Not only is the wake phenominal, it also drives like a corvette and has room for many adults and kids. |
Hopefully my last post doesn't come across as bashing those other boats wakes, as I definitely would be happy to ride and own all of them! Just was trying to give a good illustration of what I think of the 230 wake.
|
I owned 3 230s. They are nice boats. The surf wake is really nice. The wb wake, in my experience, is temperamental if you add anything over 1k in extra ballast. If you do want a big wake out of a 230, you end up having to ride at like 26+ mph at like 85+ft. Otherwise, the wake tends to wash with a lot of weight. I was not willing to do that.
I really enjoyed my 230s, and had very few problem with them. I own an axis a22 now, and while the interior of this boat is not nearly as blinded out, it cost me half the price and the wb wake at 23.2 mph at 70-85ft is huge and clean with up to 4k over factory ballast. |
Yea, my friend and I ride a little faster than most prefer...26.5 mph, however, we are riding at 90ft with 5000 lbs of ballast. My girlfriend rides at about 23.7-24 mph at 70-75ft (depends on far she's bootin or if she's trying TS jumps) with 3750 lbs of ballast...no issues with wash...just took us a few sets in the beginning to find the configuration that works for her.
|
Ok, I am really starting to narrow down the options. Here is what I am looking at right now. I don't think this thread has ever looked like it was going down the boat bashing - thanks to everyone's help with that. Hopefully this list doesn't make it go down that road. I am looking for help narrowing down the best options. I will list everything I know about the 4 boats below.
2005 Malibu 23 LSV - No Illusion tower (wife doesn't like it anyway) - close to my house (within 150 miles and in the same state) - manual wedge - 150ish hours - cheap speakers on tower (not sure what make) - 340 Monsoon - Cousin looking at boat on Monday (I may go look at it on Tuesday) = Asking 45K 2006 Nautique 220 - Next state over - 320ish hours - no tower speakers - 5.7 PCM - Pods on both sides (not sure what they are called) = Asking 45K 2008 Nautique 220 - East Coast - 330 Excalibur - Cheap tower speakers - Pod on one side - some warranty left = Asking 45K without a trailer 2006 Nautique 220 - Gulf Coast - 330 HP - 225 hours - No tower speakers - Pods on both sides = Asking 36.5K 2012 MB F21 Tomcat - Local Dealer - hard selling at 50K - Not sure if that is out the door number but is 5K over my target - full warranty - shorter than others I am looking at. |
FYI, if you go malibu, you don't want an illusion tower. The titan tower is way better for a number of reasons.
|
^^^ what he said. Also, please demo these boats. The 220 is even worse about having a washy and temperamental wake when extra ballast is added.
|
Still looking. I had high hopes for a 2005 Malibu in Havasu. Had my cousin go look at it today. He says there is a 2 foot scratch on the hull that is through the gel coat into the fiberglass. Also has the Malibu raised lettering coming off one side and the rear engine hatch needs to be replaced due to sun bleaching. Other than that he said it was clean. On the brighter side I didn't have to drive 6 hours round trip to find that out the hard way. At this rate I may be waiting until February and try and pick something up at the LA Boat show.
|
Well, I just got back from the middle of nowhere AZ. Went to look at a 2008 Tige 24Ve for 48K. Had low hours and upgraded trailer to say the least. I offered him 44K and he wouldn't budge so I came home empty handed. I am headed out to Sacramento to look at a 2006 Nautique 220 on the 10th. After looking at the 24Ve, I might be wasting a trip. Hopefully I can look at a couple other boats while I am out there. I think I am going to stick to my original goal of a 23+ foot boat. Also I have increased my budget to 50K max.

Been keeping up with this thread for a long time now, looking forward to seeing what you eventually find!
|
Me too.
I am seriously considering the 2012 MB F21 Tomcat. Supposedly it has the same interior room as a 23 foot. I am supposed to go look at one next week (heard that for the last two weeks - sloppy local dealer), or I will go to the manufacture on the 10th when I am in California looking at boats. I can't believe how much I have gone up on price and now looking at shorter boats on top of that. I think everyone on this site should put their boat up for sale this week so I can have a few more to choose from. That would help, and so would having a taller garage entry. Anyone know if you can buy direct from MB, or do you have to go through the dealer? I would be able to pick it up from them and it would be nice if I didn't have to pay the dealer markup. Anyone have or been in a 2012 F21 that can tell me if the size of the interior is truly the size of 23 foots? They are advertising the hell out of it that way and the local dealer is too. |
I don't believe they'll sell directly because they don't want to affect the business of their dealers. You could probably work out picking the boat up yourself, however. Not sure if that's something I'd want to do if I were ordering a new boat, dealers usually have "dealer prep" they perform on the boat prior to handing it over to the customer. Dealer prep would (usually) include running the boat and making sure everything works, as well as getting it nice and pretty for you. If I were ordering a boat new I'd want the whole experience haha.
But, if you want an '05 Supra Launch 24SSV with 700+ hours you're welcome to mine for your ORIGINAL target price of $45k! What a deal! Pick up next week? :D |
