Top 5 riders from YOUR state!

Ok so I'm extremely board so I got an idea for a topic. Name who you think are the top five riders from your state. Boat cable wakeskate winch rails whatever; just the top 5 best overall riders. Current or retired.

I'll go first starting with my home state
ALABAMA (yeehaw)
1. Nick weinacker
2. Matt simms
3. Rob corum
4. Alex Grayson
5. Taylor renfroe

I spend a lot of time in TN so Ima do that one too.
TN
1. Jeff house
2. Phil aslinger
3. Justin Jenkins
4. Daniel walden
5. Craig archer

if your from FL, TX, or CA good luck!!!

logan 02-15-2012 12:57 AM

Agreed! Graydon is a beast, and a super nice guy as well. Everyone should check out his sections in these:

BamaLurker 02-15-2012 9:22 AM

My iPhone auto corrected graydons last name. Yep Alex def shreds. He can rip it up on a wakeskate too. He's def AL best rail rider!!!

jarrod 02-15-2012 4:30 PM

Eric Smaltz? I give the man his props, but are we not talking current riders that are still in the scene?

Cali has so many riders. I don't think I can keep it to 5.

1. Randy Harris
2. Josh Twelker
3. Chris Dykmans
4. Trever Maur
5. Derek Cook

Tony Carroll deserves recognition, but he pretty much lives in Florida now. So that's how I'll keep my list to 5. Also, Chris Williams is a seriously good rider, although I haven't seen him around in a while.

Can we break Cali into two states? :-) Norcal and SoCal? Because the Valdez kids are awesome too.

02-15-2012 4:39 PM

^^^then us FL guys should just break it up amongst each private lake the pros live & ride or break it into quadrants of Orlando lol

Yeah Florida would be nearly imposible to do.
Maybe something like this...
Parks
Harf
Byerly
Phil soven
reed hanson maybe????

txwakerider14 02-16-2012 5:15 AM

4. Pat McElhinney
5. Dustin Swafford/ Chris Ramirez..??

Number 5 is hard becasue there are about 6 or 7 guys you could make a case for.

hawkeye7708 02-16-2012 5:34 AM

I saw this and my first thought was, "Eat Your Heart Out, Florida" haha

durty_curt 02-16-2012 6:26 AM

I'll cast my vote for Arizona this evening. Today I'll be riding with the last group of some of the best riders in AZ that I have yet to see shred.
QUESTION when were saying, top five riders off YOUR STATE, do you mean that were born and/or raised there? Or currently residing??

fgcuwake 02-16-2012 10:57 AM

to make it a lil easier, let's break it down to best cable riders in FL.
Who's got top 5 votes?

fgcuwake 02-16-2012 10:58 AM

or in that case top 5 for boat/ and also wakeskate

fgcuwake 02-16-2012 11:40 AM

This can be broken down in too many ways so for overall cable and/or just air tricks for native Floridians
not in any specific order:
Diego Shaw
Nick Kamper
Julian Cohen
Billy Parker
Chandler Powell

WakeUKY 02-22-2012 8:44 AM

An attempt at the disconnected wakeboarding within Kentucky:

1. Bryan Hutton
2. Landon Kasey
3. Ryan Gillen

Gotta reserve 4 and 5 for some talent out of Louisville or Western Ky

Weekendwarrior 02-23-2012 5:32 AM

I haven't seen anything from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio ??

Ohio (boat riding)

1.Clayton Underwood (he could count for Indiana also)
2. Curt Bernstein

I thought I could get it started I really don't know many

hawkeye7708 02-23-2012 7:01 AM

Wisconsin:
1) Erik Ruck
2) Laura Lohrmann?
3) Aaron Rodgers?

That's all I got right now...

Brian 02-23-2012 7:25 AM

Georgia: (locals and pro I guess) that I've seen ride, so they are probably more than I'd know.

1: Jeff Langley
2: Corey Bradley
3: Kyle Wells
4: Brandon & Brett Lee
5: Chase Andrews

From Wisco I would say:
1. Erik Ruck
2. Gordy Bubolz (sp?!)
3. Gunnar Shuler (younger brother is great too)
4. Tim Keepers (I think he was from Wisco - least lived here for some time and worked at Gordy's camp)
5. Chris Law (having a hard time remembering, but is he the guy who always rocked a jedi braid?! ... I thought that was he name, he always beat me at the grassroot tournys)

hawkeye7708 02-23-2012 8:24 AM

Nick, I'm glad you weighed in. I pretty much was running dry after Ruck haha

slob02 02-23-2012 8:41 AM

Ohio.............for starters........

Adam Wensink http://hyperlite.com/TEAM/Legion/adam-wensink
Gerry Nunn
Matt Vermillion

TheHebrewHammer 02-23-2012 9:31 AM

Hey Wisconsin people, what about Hunter Hanson?

wazzy 02-23-2012 9:48 AM

>>5. Chris Law<<
Chris Full..... you mean.... He still rocks, no jedi braid any more, but he had a small mohawk last weekend....lol. He has won Nats & Words in his divison a couple times.
He rocks on snowskis & a snowboard too....

buffalow 02-23-2012 10:14 AM

Dustin's list is more like it. You have to put Schwenne as a top 5. His bag of tricks, Long term high level, dedication to the sport, ability to ride in all directions, re-inventing tricks to fit his style and all around awesome dude.

gotta add Dirty Mike Dowdy to the list. that kid kills it! and Chris Laske, who coached Mike in MI. that dude is sick as well....

BamaLurker 02-23-2012 11:53 AM

Landon Kasey shreds and has a great attitude. Super nice kid.

As far as Georgia goes I would def have to say Rhett whatley. He has my fav tail grab back roll to blind in the game. Where's he been?????? Also isn't clay Fletcher from GA? I'd also have to throw Paul lizon in there too. Not for his riding but for what he's done for the atl scene.

adamsilcio 02-23-2012 1:13 PM

Dang, this is kind of tough. Not sure about the current top riders but the top riders of all time in Louisiana...

Top 5 Wakeboarders:
Ben Albright
Luke Romero
Ronnie Saurage
Lucas Harold
Chip Smith

Top 3 Wakeskaters:
Blake Steele
Joshua Norman
Ryan Lemons

waterdork88 02-23-2012 8:27 PM

In no particular order for Florida

Julian Cohen
Eric Worrall
Chad Worall
Nick Kamper
Diego Shaw

TheHebrewHammer 02-23-2012 9:42 PM

Diego Shaw is a cut above the rest of those guys IMO

Ya, both Clay and Rhett can kill it.

I believe Rhett got into riding bicycles a few years ago and didn't really shred much. I 'heard' last year he blew his knee or ankle out riding for the first time in a year or so. Not sure if it was a total blow out, but I don't believe he rides much anymore. I hope I'm wrong, because he sure could kill it.

nautiboy614 02-24-2012 9:50 AM

1.) Adam Wensink - Dudes going to break the rope one day cause he goes so big!
2.) Curt Bernstein - smooth.....just needs to man up and throw down some hammer tricks......he's got em....
3.) Matt Vermillion - 48 and kills it.....one of the most smoothest riders you'll see
4.) Nick Yockman - only seen this guy ride once.....I was impressed
*special mention* Clayton Underwood - I think Ohio, Indiana & Florida will all fight to put them under there states best riders!.....that being said, We got him

So is this poll for guys who ride cable ?

waterdork88 02-24-2012 9:06 PM

I watch a lot of cable riders :)

indemand12 02-25-2012 7:19 AM

I think there are few people that may have been over looked.
Bamaluker think you left a couple guys off your list; Clay McCoy, Miles Armstrong and Chris Skinner. That is for Alabama, also Adam McCall and Matt Clendenin for tn.
Adamsilcio may have left a few guys out as well, there were a lot of good riders in north LA as well; Marty Head, Byron Johnson, Gabe Livingston, and Robert southworth.
Jon_a also you over looked Jeremy Baker, Brian White, and Christy Smith.
There have been a lot of great riders in the past and present in the southeast, now for for the MI krooked letter "Mississippi" my home state
In no order of skill
Nathan Strange
Brad Bucannon. Sp?
Leif Lacy
Zack Luckett
Austin Price
Cody Walker
And temp. Resident Drew Halford
I am aware that is more than 5 but too many good riders to narrow down still had to leave some out.
Wake skate
Chad Tidwell
Chase unsure of last name but from batesville I believe.

Sure wish there was still a jacko and waketv to showcase these underrated riders.

indemand12 02-25-2012 7:32 AM

I also left one female out Mississippi rider Tiffany Landry

sippi 02-25-2012 9:54 AM

good list clark! I might have to throw in two more names to your MS list, just because i think a few are equal in that their bag of tricks is about the same. But one would be andrew johnson, the other is you man! how'd you leave you off list ! haha

indemand12 02-25-2012 11:50 AM

Good call on Andrew, I have not had the opportunity to ride with him as much as some of the others. As for my self I felt like the list I put up were riders with more skills than myself. If I was going to include myself there are a lot of other rider throughout the state that I would also include.

julian 02-26-2012 8:19 AM

IMO for me its in no order ( not adding myself or my little brother yonel )

Keith Lidberg
Diego shaw
Chandler powel
chad worral
eric worral

jhilltn 02-26-2012 6:55 PM

interesting thread

bamalurker: as far as i know your Alabama list is accurate, just out of order. (edit) In TN (end edit) I like Craig but he isn't #5. Honestly, after Jeff, Phil, and DWal it drops off and there are a lot of guys that are of similar skill (maybe a 7 and some mobes/ decent style and grabbing stuff). I've seen Jenkins do some nice stuff so maybe he is 4 or Tol Swindell in Nasvhille, or hopefully some kids I've never heard of!

SCBrips: no way is Billy Garcia top 5 in TX!

Wouldn't be hard to make a case for GA having the largest number of pro-level riders (maybe besides FL but I'm talking about people who are actually FROM there).

superair502 02-26-2012 8:38 PM

Sorry alex but the list looks like this in ky
Bryan Hutton
Landon Kasey
Brad Molnar
Nick Link
Ryan Gillen

Then there are alot of really good guys just below the outlaw level. Thanks for throwing all us Louisville riders some love tho!

BamaLurker 02-27-2012 9:39 AM

I didn't leave out clay McCoy, we haven't been able to get him to ride in years. And Ive never heard of the other two you listed. There's a Chris Armstrong that shreds pretty hard.

BamaLurker 02-27-2012 9:46 AM

If were gonna keep adding to bamas list then maybee sumthing like this
1. David luker, kills rails and started ALwake
2. Austin schaffer, consistent and loves riding more than anyone I know
3. Chris Armstrong, does it all, will drop down winch spots that everyone else said no to, host bamas best backyard railjam every year
4. Jason long, anti invert spin master, co created wakefactory
5. Dustin middlebrooks, started wakefactory, builds tons of rails, hosts bamas two biggest contests every year
6. TJ Allen, consistent and always progressing.

BamaLurker 02-27-2012 9:48 AM

I'm sure there's more bama shredders that deserve mention but that's just off the top of my head.

Yep I def forgot about clendeninininin for TN. Cory dyer too!!!

BamaLurker 02-27-2012 9:50 AM

Oh, forgot about yancey crew for bama. Tons of talent, when this kid finds his style he's gonna be rediculous.

BamaLurker 02-27-2012 9:56 AM

Damnit they just keep coming. Bama
Ben watts. Outrides guys twice his age.
Matt (pokey) wright, super aggresive style.

Ima try a wakeskaters list for bama....
Kyle Walton, I know he's from Michigan but he lived here for a while and opend the door for bama winch spots.
Richard pelham
hunter bentley (turtle farm)
Austin schaffer. (when u can talk him into unstrapping)
Michael meads???
Chris Armstrong

michaelvincz 02-27-2012 12:48 PM

Not many people from Indiana on WW anymore or just all newer riders.... Indiana has a few riders, start with the old schoolers....
Chad Morin
Mark Weikel
Jonathan Nadolski
Andrew Shearer
and last but not least, Ive been known to throw down a little myself...

liquidmalibu 02-27-2012 5:11 PM

zoodsmak 03-04-2012 5:48 PM

MICHIGAN
Depends on boat, cable, winch, freeride, or top of the podium but here are some names who killed it in MI in 2011 (in no order)
Ben Herrema
Scot Ferwerda
Jon Nadolski
Ryan Bezemek
Alex Fata
Steve Jesionowski
Chris Laske
Mike Dowdy

To the Midwest WWers, I've been thinking of trying to put together a Midwest tournament, pick 5 of the best riders from each state and see which state comes out on top. Any ideas on how to come up with the roster and what tournament style to go with? I'd like to talk to Alliance or Transworld Wake about it.

steezyshots 03-05-2012 1:53 PM

Josh Twelker
Mike Schwenne
Trever Maur
Jacob Valdez
and Justin Fisher for pushing the winch game

Walt 03-05-2012 5:14 PM

There's a lot of talent in Ca. Pretty tough to narrow it down to 5.

I haven't seen Brady Sammons ride in a while but he might be on the short list for Ca.

brycejb328 03-05-2012 5:33 PM

Nothing for MN yet?

Colin Ryan
Jade Whirley
