Mueller knee brace
 

I am wondering if anyone is using one of these for wakeboarding? I know alot of people are using the CTI braces(standard and custom vapor). I asked my chiro about a knee brace and he said a mueller one should work just fine. Any input or personal opinions would be great thanks

I wear two CTI2 vapors. and prior to these I had two EVS Webs and Two Asterisk cells.
I blew out my knee wearing a brace much like these meullers and I personally think they do jack squat once you get them in the water. My knee folded like a wet noodle.
The best preventative measure will always be working out your muscles but if you want to get a brace, get one with a solid frame.

did you have to get a prescription to get the vapor? I know you can get the standard(off the self) or a prosport for around 500 give to take and what I have read is the custom vapor brace are very expensive because they are custom made. What I read on other posts on WW is the standard and pro sport will do great but the pro sport is just a little stronger for heavy people like 220 plus.

I didn't get a prescription but did need to go see the specialist to get my knee's all measured up. I have friends that have the off the shelf versions and they work great as well, would highly suggest them as an option for ya. They have a lifetime warranty of the hinge and brace, so they're something you'd keep for a fair few years.

I wear the hinged ones and think they add stability, do not cost much, and may have the potential to do more benefit than harm. The key is potential. I reviewed the med literature on knee braces a year or two back and the evidence is mostly inconclusive for these as well as for the high dollar braces as primary prevention for knee injuries and you really have to rely on judgment and intuition. So if you think it will help you wear them, if not do not bother with them. The data is just not there one way or the other.

Anecdotally, I have witnessed a guy tear his ACL while wearing a hinged Mueller type brace. If you have the wrong kind of wreck bad things can happen either way.
