What amp?! 651um

I just picked up 3 pairs (6 speakers) of polk mm651um for my malibu vlx. trying to figure out what would be the best amp to go with not looking got spend crazy money so what would be something really good and affordable for those 6 speakers?

Im running my 6 WS650's off of one arc 300.4 with room for another pair in the near future . I run the stereo pretty hard in the summer and it has treated me great so far !

X2 for the arc amp .I have the same set up as Travis and love it

*(I know nothing about stereo stuff)

You say you have room for another pair. Could that space be taken by a sub? Specifically, could this amp power the 6 interior speakers and 1 sub? Not big into stereo stuff. I think the 6 interior and a sub would be the limit for my stereo build. Thanks.

I'm looking to add a sub before spring. prefer 12" sealed box. maybe 15". whats a good sub and sub amp? I may have a JL 12" in my garage somewhere. I'm not looking to win any comps, just want a more complete sound. looking for a good sub amp in the 500 watt range.

@ W.S.

You would be best served with a 5 chnl or 5 chnl amp for driving 3 pair of in-boats and a sub. The amp mentioned above is a 4 chnl.

@ chpthril how would a 5 channel work for 3 pair and a sub?

Midnightv10 02-26-2015 4:16 PM

^^^ 1 Pair on Channel 1&2, 2 pairs on channel 3&4, and the sub on Channel 5

chpthril 02-26-2015 4:36 PM

What Russ said. A 5 chnl amp has 4 full range speakers for regular speakers and a dedicated sub chnl.

luxpdr 02-26-2015 10:38 PM

How do you have it wired up to that amp?

BaadLS1 02-26-2015 11:14 PM

1 speaker on ch 1 @ 4 ohms (series)
1 speaker on ch2 @ 4 ohms (series)
2 speakers on ch3 @ 2 ohms (parallel)
2 speakers on ch4 @ 2 ohms (parallel)

A 5th chAnne would be certainly the subwoofer as the 5th channel on amplifiers are nearly guaranteed to be a low pass class D channel.

Could also do the same thing with a 6 channel amp, just bridge channel 5 and 6 for the sub.
The Wetsounds SYN 6 is a great amp for this as it has basically 2 amps in one. a 4 channel amp as well as a higher powered 2 channel amp In the same chassis.

shawndoggy 02-27-2015 9:24 AM

the problem with the syn 6 is that channels 1-4 are pretty weak by today's standards.

I'd much rather run a JL XD 1000/5 (which is xd400/4 and xd600/1 in 1 chassis). Class D vs class AB and more power than the syn6. And the Syn 6 is also gigantic and not that easy to find a spot for vs the XD.
