how many of you guys have little bro's, kids, or cousins that are out there ripping? i went out riding last week at my aunts house and "borrowed" an 07 X-2 from the dealership I work for, my little cousin (11) wakeboarded for either the 4th or 5th time, (not a lot), i got him up behind the X-2 and he is ALMOST landing w2w jumps, i was in total shock at how fast he learned...anyone else notice how good/fast these kids are learning to ride???
|
Give a kid something to do and they will pick it up so fast you think they did it in a blink of an eye. He!!, I still can't play the PlayStation2 as well as my 7 year old. I will sit back when he decides he wants to board and enjoy him learning.
|
my cousin (9) did it for the first time last saturday. Got up first try and went in and out of both wakes...

must be the supreme instruction by his older cousins...
|
it just baffels me how well they learn, i mean yes coaching is important, but its just crazy how fast he learned, i wasnt landing w2w's until i rode probably for a whole summer..almost frustrating to see how fast they can pick it up..hah

My boy Brooks is 7 and is trying TS jumps and 180 butter slides. This is the first year that he has had his own board and has only rode it for two sets . I guess that is what you get when you don't have a boat. Our family Powell trip is next month and he will be getting a lot of time on the water. Hats off to all the kids just ripping at the sport!
|
I've noticed how my youngest son(15), now applies his skateboarding skills to wakeboarding. He and his water buddies talk all the time about tricks on skateboards and tricks they try on the wakeboards.(They practice one to accomplise the other, somewhat). I gotta say the best thing about watching them is the "1 UP Factor" between good, but competitive friends. It makes watching and/or gettin picz that much better!I LUV watching the young un's behind the boats!

My son is 5 and wants to do it so bad. We're looking for a board for him. I'm new to this and really got into it for wakesurfing purposes to satisfy my need to surf during the flat summer months. But a buddy is pretty good at wakeboarding and now my boy wants to do it. Any suggestions on a board for a 5 year old?
|
Matthew, look for the smallest board & bindings you can find, if you have access to a barefoot boom that would be a great way to start a 5 year old, only need to go about 10 MPH, not to scary. Good luck to your son and have fun.......
|
Randy thanks for the input. I'll look into the barefoot boom.

My 5 year old goes wakesurfing with me. My other son who is 9 loves to wakeboard and wakesurf. Am I the only one who wishes I had a childhood like my kids?

This is my son a couple of years ago. He had just turned five years old. This is his third or fourth time out. He had been skateboarding since he was about two and a half and it definitely help his wakeboarding. Pull the rope in to about 60 feet and run between 14 to 17 mph. You can stand on the swim platform with him in the water and pull the rope with your hands to show him what it will feel like. You can probably get him out of the water like this. If he's ready to go for it, let him go for it. LF has a small board to fit kids.

My son goes surfing with me when it's really small. Like ankle to knee high crumblers. He's been skating for about a year. Really just rolling around our outdoor play area. He also plays a little on the indo board. Pretty much, we're all about surfing and skating. I've tried soccer to no avail and tee-ball which he likes. But watersports he really seems to like. Troy, I would love to have a childhood like my kids. This is my first boat ever. We didn't have one growing up. Plus, my dad didn't take me surfing or skateboarding. Those weren't his interest. I picked all that up when I was a teenager. I'm 38 and still skate / carveboard. I still surf. I'm learning how to wakeboard. Wakesurfing came pretty easy to me. Just finding the sweet spot and the right board was the difficult thing.
|
My son's board is a Liquid Force Nemesis 118. It has been a great board. He is seven now and this will be his third season riding it.

Hope this helps,
Jman

Here is a pic of my 4 year old from two weeks ago. He wants to wakeboard so bad, and has with me many times. Looks like its time!
dg

dg

Jman, your kid had a better toeside edge at 5 than i do at 26!!

very cool pics people. you can tell you parents are cool/good by the way your kids look
|
Thanks, Looser. I'm just trying to give my son the childhood that I longed for when I was a kid. My folks weren't into the lake scene at all and I was always envious of the kids who spent weekends and vacations on the lake boating.

Jman

Jman ~~ I do haft to say your boy has a hell of a TS edge. Looks like the next Randall is up and coming! It's pretty funny how much they learn from inside the boat. My boy Brook's is just getting into it and here he is taking some slashes at the wake. He also just got his first TS air and found out what it feels like to catch that TS edge on a FS Butter 180.

Our girls (13 and 11) both got up on their first pull. They've been snowboarding and used to run GS gates on skis, which has been a great help in learning how to wakeboard. The 11 year old is going out of the wake now, and from what my husband told me (I had to work today), caught her first air off the wake today!

The younger the kid is, the less fearful they are; it's great to see the little ones (3, 4 year olds)ripping it up so young!

I surf with my son who is 2 and this past weekend he strapped on his board and got pulled behind the boat. Here is a pic. of him surfing, I'll get the wakeboarding ones up tomorrow.

(Message edited by bucnoles on July 01, 2007)

Its crazy how fast younger kids are progressing. I have a younger sister (13) who has just started wakeboarding with me this summer and after her 2nd time out is already landing w2w. The younger kids seem to have no fear and will try anything.
