About to pick up one of these skates (Vinyl 108, Byerly 42, or Catalyst 116) and was looking for some input. I am 5'10" 210 lbs. Been wakeboarding for 2 seasons. more w2w than flip tricks but would like a little mix between the skate/wake feel any info will help. Thanks.

why such big boards? you only ride a 137 wakeboard

djred123 05-29-2007 4:36 AM

"why such big boards? you only ride a 137 wakeboard"

It is a 137 but its a Fish. According to Liquid Force it is like riding a board 10 cm bigger. Also I weigh 210 thats pretty big for a wakeskater. I need the extra surface area to keep my fat a$$ on top of the water

(Message edited by djred123 on May 29, 2007)

you're not going to need a 116 cm wakeskate. That's like 46 inches, which is basically unheard of in wakeskating.

Thanks. Looks like the Catalyst is out of the picture. Down to the Byerly or Vinyl. I have read alot about both but still undecided. I have been told the byerly has crazy pop but the vinyl is more stable w2w. Can anyone verify that? I'm leaning toward the vinyl but the byerly looks so sick. (not the graphics the design)(graphics mean nothing to me)

I have not ridden the vinyl, but I do have a byerly (that I have not yet ridden either). I will tell you that the byerly has some pretty extreme top features...I think the vinyl seems a bit more mellow in that department...that board also doesn't seem as bulky. Since there's not a lot of information about it on here, I would recommend checking out wakeskating.com for vinyl info. lately we've had a lot of dudes post some opinions about it, and I think you'll get a better idea that way.

Also, there's a thread on there somewhere that has some nice pictures of the features from both decks (byerly and vinyl). Good luck either way, though!

Appreciate the info TNSNC. I just ordered them both so I will post my reviews soon. Whichever one I like I will keep and slang the other one to one of my friends.

whammy, that's the spirit. I definitely want to try out my legacy, but I was having a rough weekend and I was simply too upset to switch to a new wakeskate!!

But yeah, a friend of mine just bought the vinyl and he's been having a rough time finding the right skate for his style (it's a personal comfort thing) and he seems to be digging that vinyl. It just seemed like they mellowed everything out on the byerly to get the vinyl...again people seem to like it.

anyway, have fun on your new rides!

I have not ridden the Legacy but have ridden a Catalyst and I do have a vinyl. The Catalyst really did not do much for me. The Vinyl is a heavy board and you will either love it or hate it. Personally this thing feels awesome under my feet. It gives me more confidence on my w2w and thus I am getting more pop than I ever did on my previous skates, and I have owned quite a few. Shuvs take extra effort with the vinyl but I have noticed this skate is solid on landings. You may want to also look into the Catalyst 2.0 which I think has a great feel.

vinyl forsure

norcalrider39 05-30-2007 12:39 PM

Lovin my Legacy. Rides like nothing else i've ridden. Wake to wakes are a breeze on it.

sancho 05-31-2007 5:26 PM

I weighed 210 at the begining of the season and the legacy 39 is perfect. i would recomend a 39 or a vinyl i am yet to get my vinyl so we will see.

I'm 195 and ride a 112 Catalyst. I'm more into w2w stuff too and I like the Catalyst.

chris_williams 06-25-2007 11:24 AM

I love the vinyl. It's solid w2w and good for everything else. It's grippy with fin's so i rock one fin so you have the best of both worlds. The weight and the concave feel just right too.

My Vinyl shows up tomorrow. Can't wait to ride it.

deedee 06-25-2007 9:03 PM

i am 5'11 and have ridden both i had awesome pop from the vinyl the byerly was ok - it felt heavy and smaller. I generally ride the Maven and a 43" impulse - i just got the wide 43" and am stoked to try it - i like big boards personally so i feel you hopefully they (impulse) dont break like the first one did.

904wakeboarderschancey 07-09-2007 11:51 AM

dude i am 220 and i ride a lf impulse 43 i have no problem landing in the flats and hitting douoble ups just dont get anything small er than 42 thats my guess but 43 is the perfect length unless ur over 6 foot tall u might need the 116 catalyst
