This summer I was lucky enough to catch a great day of riding on tape. This was the first time I landed every trick I know without falling in one sequence. It happened a few more times later this summer, but this was by far the most memorable day of riding in many, many years.

It may not look like I am enjoying it because I am thinking the whole time... holy crap... this is going down on tape... I just kept concentrating and nailed it.

Now its time to learn more tricks. For those of you in your 30's, keep plugging away! Maybe I can get ten more by the time I am 49...

I just made this video this weekend... kinda fun adding music and text.

http://www.vimeo.com/1961329

brhanley 10-13-2008 9:27 PM

looking good and going BIG. those bullards trips at the end of June and early July must've paid off...and all despite the rough Sac river chop...congrats, let's see it live before winter.

unclejessie 10-13-2008 9:31 PM

Thanks Brian.

For sure... when you com'n down the hill? This weekend?

westsiderippa 10-13-2008 10:26 PM

WOW!!!! great set mark, you owned it brotha. you much of a cold weather rider? if so when i get back from costa its on!!! that was some strong work keep it up.

stxr_racer 10-14-2008 12:48 AM

That was great and the wake looked awesome!

eubanks01 10-14-2008 5:49 AM

Wow, that was really cool! Thanks for sharing and that is some nice water you're riding on!

wakereviews 10-14-2008 5:55 AM

wow, great video and killer riding!

downfortheride 10-14-2008 6:16 AM

Great job on the video and the riding was SICK! I don't know about you but about 5 inverts/tricks into the run I get pretty tired. Way to throw down, thanks for sharing!

helix_rider 10-14-2008 6:19 AM

Great riding man, that inspired me as an almost 35 year old to keep at it learning new tricks. Besides the spins, which I think are really impressive...I loved the HS front. You don't see many of them, and you made it look smooth. Were you mostly self taught, or did you ride alot with a crew that helped you out?

eas 10-14-2008 6:27 AM

very nice! HS5 and SW BS1...impressive.

p.s. that slob 3 at the end was big!

jjakober 10-14-2008 6:56 AM

Nice work!!

As another 39 year old wakeboarder that has been doing it for a long time, I can appreciate how cool it is to through down all your tricks in one pass with no falls!

hawkeye7708 10-14-2008 7:05 AM

Nice man!

unclejessie 10-14-2008 7:36 AM

Thanks everyone.

Loren, I have taken a ton of lessons in my early 30s from NorCal guys that kill it like Brodie, Al M. (aka WakeViolator), and Josh Smith. The last few years I have ridden with some of those same guys, plus a few others like Matt Norton (see him in the CWB Faction video) and a bunch of others that are either better than me or about the same where we push each other. WakeViolator gets credit for the heel front and Norton gets credit for helping making me do it right consistently.

I wish could stuck that toe 3 grab at the end... that would been a sick way to end the video!

-Uj

jarrod 10-14-2008 7:40 AM

Nice ridin buddy. I liked the HS 5 an HS front. Clean! I had a few perfect sets like that last month. Feels good to ride well.

ccryder 10-14-2008 8:00 AM

Great Job Mark, us old guy's have to keep trying... Nice set.

slipknot 10-14-2008 8:04 AM

great ridin uncle jessie! great video too!

showmedonttellme 10-14-2008 8:15 AM

That was some amazing driving! hahahahaha. Mark killed it all summer fellas!!! Nice camera-work by Sus too! On it!!

wakeviolater 10-14-2008 8:17 AM

Yeah Mark!

That front is looking good!

jusstty 10-14-2008 8:18 AM

wow great job, im impressed

lfxstar 10-14-2008 8:28 AM

You have AMAZING FORM man.. That heelside 5 was soooo popped and perfect. You should go out 5 more feet to save your knees a little bit. But your technique is perfect, better than some guys you see out there throwing all sorts of mobes, 7s and glides!!

ffmedic 10-14-2008 8:38 AM

WOW..you killed it man...nice set..

unclejessie 10-14-2008 9:00 AM

Wow, Kyle (and everyone else)... thanks for the props.

I'm pretty stoked ww's like the video too... I used a pretty simply program... Roxio DVD creator. I kinda want to spend some bucks and get a better program now and do some cool affects.

pc_sledge 10-14-2008 10:23 AM

Sweet set!

onthewatermo 10-14-2008 10:54 AM

You are an inspiration to those of us who plan to live 'till 39. Can't wait to see your video at age 49.

watersnake 10-14-2008 1:11 PM

Sick! I hope I can pull some of the stuff you can when I hit 39....One year to go, And I only hit w2w hs now....

kyle_neumann 10-14-2008 1:20 PM

awesome especially for being 39!!

brianmiller 10-14-2008 2:15 PM

Nice work Mark. Susie did a great job on the video. Hard to keep a still hand in all that chop in your "secret spot"

Damn you are gettin old..Don't you have a birthday coming up soon or are you stopping at 39!!

craigr 10-14-2008 2:19 PM

i like the fact that the video is completely unedited also, i'd be interested to see others post videos of their entire bag of tricks all without falling. sick riding, what tricks are you working on now?

unclejessie 10-14-2008 2:34 PM

Hey Brian... I am turning the clock backards in 63 days... I will turn 38!

Craig, I'm trying HS OA 360s, Crow Mobes, regular BS180's, and whatever else comes into my head. I want to land something OA, so I might go back to OA ts540. I dont know... those didn't work out so well in the spring. Gotta keep pushing tho.

wayz 10-14-2008 4:58 PM

Nice bag of tricks, I enjoyed the video.

waajusshappened 10-14-2008 5:54 PM

Nice video, and I like how you went big on that hs 540 bro!

srh00z 10-14-2008 6:26 PM

Way to throw down. It is fun to be in the boat when somebody sticks all the tricks in their bag. Thanks for sharing your stoke with us.

drknute3 10-14-2008 6:28 PM

I am 39 as well and just got back into boarding this summer after taking about a 10 year hiatus. In the first couple months I got w2w hs and ts, and have ts fs 180's and a few surface tricks. Nice to see another almost 40-something doing what your doing. Good inspiration for the rest of us almost 40 somethings to go big.

Definitely notice the aches and pains on Monday are a little more intense than when we were 25 eh bro? lol

Great work!!!

jtnz 10-14-2008 9:07 PM

That was sick, enjoyed the music too you have taste man

Your riding is awesome, very impressive, hopefully I'm at that level after 10 years of riding.

bbr 10-14-2008 10:42 PM

nice man, but it looks like you should run a longer line. You landed in the trough quite a bit.

johnsvt 10-15-2008 1:26 AM

Nice run...hope I have half that bag at 39

unclejessie 10-15-2008 7:19 AM

BBR- Its funny you said that about the line length. Someone else said the same thing earlier in the thread. I do run only 75 ft because I find I have to work just a little harder at 80, especially on boats with wide wakes. I have taken a good beating going at 80ft on wider wakes... But, I always try a few sets at 80 just keep me thinking about it. This summer I landed just about the whole bag at 80ft one time behind my boat. Maybe next summer I just start that way and forget about 75ft! Thanks for the input tho.

-Uj

misteve 10-15-2008 7:23 AM

That's inspiring...

gene3x 10-15-2008 7:38 AM

I did not realize their were so many of you that were old too! I posted something awhile back asking who was doing what at how old and it didn't get much response.
Nice riding Jessie!
Any of you other old people have video's? Let's see em!!!

BTW I will never land all of my bag in one pass as I am sitting on my ass with an ACL reconstruction from the same trick I hurt myself on last year.

(Message edited by gene3x on October 15, 2008)

gene3x 10-15-2008 7:45 AM

BTW I am 6'2" 22lbs and I will be 40 in March.

Here is my vid from last year. Feel free to skip the first 2 minutes.

It was a joke for our buddy Alph. ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOdS5lsJotg

jjakober 10-15-2008 8:10 AM

Nice riding Gene, I love all the spin variations!

Here is one of my best sets ever from 2 years ago. That would make me 37 at the time.

http://www.wakepics.com/video/20308/jakober-s-nwwf-video

There are cuts in the video, but only to shorten it up. The only wreck is on the first HS Front attempt. The last 30 seconds are from a different day.

unclejessie 10-15-2008 8:26 AM

Nice riding guys!

gene3x 10-15-2008 8:28 AM

Man, that is a totally legit heel front! No frantrum there!
How do you get so much pop on your RtoR & Half Cab Rolls?
Did you catch those failed Crow mobe attempts at the end? lol

Come on old guys lets see some more!

bbr 10-15-2008 8:59 AM

Gene, go and get a 2.5 ft section and you'll be in the sweet spot.

Rippers in their 30's rule. I love it when people ask how old I am, they never believe me when I tell'em I'll be 32 soon.

hawk22 10-15-2008 9:22 AM

Jessie, sweet video. gives me hope. I'm about to turn 32 and I keep asking myself "is this it?" I've got some basic grabs, hs 180 and hs switch 180, and a backroll...and thats my bag of tricks. just this season I've been trying some 3s and backside 180s with no success, but seeing that vid keeps me believing. I hope i can post of my vid someday...

unclejessie 10-15-2008 9:32 AM

When I was 32, I had HS3, Backroll, and Tanny... that was it. At 34 or 35 I added Toe3, Toe front, toe 5. At 36 or 37 I added Hs5 (although it came and went), and elephant. 37 was heel front. 38 was sw bs 180. Somewhere in there scarecrow came in. 39 is when I can say I own each of them!

lfxstar 10-15-2008 3:30 PM

Jessie, I was the other person who commented on line length. With your technique you will find that after riding at 80 feet for 2 days you will not want to go back. It makes it SOOOO MUCH easier on your knees when you start landing on the down curve more and you will find that extra air time makes a world of difference when learning even new tricks. With how good your heel 5 was, if you get that pop at 80 feet you can definitely go for a 7. The only time it is wrong to move back in length is if your technique is not correct but yours is like watching a wakeboarding instructional video.

And wait till you see how much bigger you can take your elephant. Elephants Greg Necrasson style is one of my favorite things to do and at 80 feet, I am damn well near parallel with the boat. I actually ride at 82-83 feet, but its not really much of a difference

unclejessie 10-15-2008 4:03 PM

ha ha... good to know. Most of my crew all ride at 80 and they all give me crap about being at 75! I will give it shot.

I did find the other day cruzing in from way out at 75 ft created a little line tension vs. cutting hard for a short pull out. I was trying OA 3s and the guy had me cruzn in from a wide, wide pull. I was able to get the handle lower a little easier using that technique. I can imagine the same thing happening when riding at 80.

I am all for less impact for knees!!

-Uj

buzz_grande 10-15-2008 4:30 PM

Yea, well, look at the water you are riding on. Anyone could pull that off on glass like that. Just kidding Great set and great bag of tricks. Congrats on putting the whole thing together. Must feel great. Wish I had a bag like that. My excuse, I'm OLD!

Keep up the good work!

loffgren 10-15-2008 4:42 PM

sick sick sick

tan 10-15-2008 8:15 PM

Nice riding Mark, I like the heel front.

unclejessie 10-15-2008 8:30 PM

Thanks Tanner! How you been?

You and Al are the ones who made me want to learn that trick. I want to nose grap it and eventually take it to fakie... maybe next year.

-Uj

parkgirl 10-16-2008 11:03 AM

UJ- you are the man, great set! We had so much fun riding with you last week. Maybe we'll catch you next week if the weather stays nice.

ldebbold 10-16-2008 12:17 PM

Very cool vid and riding. What speed do you ride?

fly135 10-16-2008 12:20 PM

unclejessie 10-16-2008 1:00 PM

John- is that you going off that kicker in your profile? At 52... that is sick! Thx for the props.

Les- 24.5 mph. Thx!

Andrea- Thx!

-Uj

fly135 10-17-2008 8:50 AM

UJ, yeah that's me.

But I couldn't hold my own against your bag of tricks. You're doing great at your age, and have lots of years to go. Keep up the good work.

lfxstar 10-17-2008 9:07 AM

John don't sell yourself short. I have seen you shred odub and you represent!!

fly135 10-17-2008 10:53 AM

Thanks Kyle!
