Now that everyone is talking about the end of the season I am thinking about toys to get me thru the long winter. We might try to resurrect our tramp and I wanted to build a spin machine. I've had one experience with one, at West Coast Wakeboard Camp, which seemed homemade but really worked great. We tried to make an impromptu one with an old board (minus the fins) a handle and some weight hanging off the deck and a cutting board with soap on it to make it slippery. Lots of laughs but not much stability. Anybody out there know where I can get one of these or any tips on how to make a good one?? Thanks

I thought Mike was selling those through Proflite?

jbeau 08-10-2006 4:49 PM

Couldn't find it on google... can you post a link?

Ok, forgive my ignorance. But what is the point of that? To just spin around in circles? I can't seem to figure out what else they could be doing....help.

wakeman21 08-11-2006 10:01 AM

to get the handle pass down I guess

Actually, and ironically, those have been around for quite a while, used by TRICK SKIERS. Those don't look like they have it, but most are set up to where you must balance on it, and then spin. Mainly training for spinning balance, it also trains you to get used to what you body does and where it goes during a spin. We used to get on them and see who could do the most ole' style spins until you flew off from going too fast. Indo boards work much better for training, I feel.

Thos ethings work incredibly well for learning to keep your axis. If you use a pretty heavy weight on the pulley you get a good simulation of the boat pulling against your handle pass. if you lose your axis it will throw you on your ass like off the wake.

I wonder how hard it would be to build one, maybe home depot has everything you need.

loudah 08-11-2006 12:59 PM

It looks rather basic should be able to use a ball bearing assembly mounted to an old deck and some hardwood.

ghostrider_2 08-11-2006 1:01 PM

thats what I was thinking..
would be great for my 2 year old since it'll be awhile before I let him on the indo board

ghostrider_2 08-11-2006 1:03 PM

I think you would want a bearing assembly that will let you tilt and all.?

loudah 08-11-2006 1:21 PM

Would be a sweet modification to add some rollers on a channel or track that allow for lateral motion also. Man might have hit up Home Depot!

ghostrider_2 08-11-2006 1:30 PM

something like a train track system (I mean rails) bout 3-4ft long still able to spin the board..mmmmmm

ghostrider_2 08-11-2006 1:31 PM

trying to think how to lock rollers in?

loudah 08-11-2006 1:35 PM

Maybe something like a skateboard truck setup with a piece of steel or something rigid either above track or under depending on how you mount rollers, wonder how that would do? Might be gettin a little too crazy with it all could just turn out to be a puke machine!!!

ghostrider_2 08-12-2006 2:54 PM

started the project last night, it can go 3-4ft left to right, has tilt for edging, but the wheels I got get caught in the center track line
so now I have got to modify some more...

Atleast it gives me something to do.

(Message edited by ghostrider_2 on August 12, 2006)

Kenny, that's cool. Lets see some pictures. Thanks for all the ideas and photos. Besides balance and spin and handle pass practice, I found the relationship between my movement on the machine and subtle movements of the handle really helped me to understand why my board tends to slide out when I'm in the air, but I'm still pretty basic out there behind the boat so more experienced riders probably get all that already. But hey, what is an Indo board? Les

ghostrider_2 08-13-2006 10:50 AM

I will have pictures if I figure this issue out, this will take time as I am no engineer..

uppledup17 08-15-2006 7:12 AM

Kenny any luck in putting together the machine yet? If I am reading the previous posts correctly, you would also like to see the board move 3 to 4 feet laterally on rails while still being able to the the top board? If so I think I can desgin something that would do that. If you could clarify I will let you know what I come up with.

ghostrider_2 08-15-2006 9:58 AM

ya I could use some help, kinda stuck and had to take a breather.

trying for lateral movement 3-4ft
360 spin
and tilt.
