So I have the ibook G4 (the older one w/o the camera on it) and lately it has been kind of slow on me, but I really want to make some videos on it. So I was thinking about getting more ram and an external hard drive, i just dont know what kind. Also I have used vegas studio to edit movies but i have never done it on a mac so i dont know what i should do. Any suggestions?

The ibook G4 has a firewire port built in and comes bundled with iMovie which actually has some fairly amazing features given it's free status. all you need is a mini DV camcorder to acquire your footage. As far as RAM goes I'd say minimum is 512K and make sure any external drive you get has a firewire interface for video.
