Sanger V215 or Centurion Falcon V?
Which would have a better wake for surfing? Both 2008 models. Or what other boat would you guys recommend for surfing? Wanting to stay between $30-$35K and try to stay 2008 or newer. Only water sport I care about is wake surfing. I've found good deals on the two mentioned boats but want to get a good surf boat. Any help or info is appreciated.

215. The reasons I would pick it are due to hull design. The Falcon has a flatter bottom than the highly regarded Avalanche or the 215. The 215 will work well on both sides. However, others have are much better surfers than me so listen to them. If you can test drive the boats you will notice a difference. In my opinion the V215 is the best handling rear engine boat out there.

If you are into just surfing, then the 215. If you are into wakeboarding/surfing and a little skiing, then the Falcon. The Falcon will feel much bigger than the 215 because it has a 102" beam (compared to 96" beam on 215)
Also, if you spend a little more, you could pick up an 07 Avy/Tige 22Ve for around $35-$37K. You would get a lot more room and the surf/wakeboard wake would be great. |
Yes I like the Avalanches and Tige 22VE also. It's a little harder to find one of those in my price range though unless I drop back to a 2006 or so. If I could find a 2007 or 2008 for $35-37K like you mentioned I would definitely be interested. I had read that the Falcon was a good all around boat but suffered a little on the surf wake. Is it going to be a noticeable difference? I'm no expert at surfing by any stretch but I want to progress in it. If the difference is really minor then it's no big deal but if its going to be a major noticeable difference then I want to stay away from it.

If you are really into surfing and you would like the room, the Avy/Ve would be my choice. I really think if you take your time, you can pick up a 2007 Avy for $35-$37K, especially now that summer is ending. My buddy just listed his 07 Avy for $40K and he may be willing to take less
https://www.onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=34592 Note: I really like the Sanger boats, but I am not a big fan of the 215. It seems to have a solid wave, but it is small inside and the freeboard is low. Just my 2 cents. You may want to see if you can find a Sanger 230 (or whatever it is called). |
Thanks for the lead. I will take a look at this boat for sure. Looks like it is surf ready without me having to buy extra ballast bags.

So did the hull change on the Avy's in 2007? By looking at specs it looks like a 2006 weighs 3200# where a 2007 weighs 4000# so I'm assuming they changed the hull for 2007. Does this make a big difference in the surf wake from the 06 to the 07 models?

Note: I had on 08 Avy for 3 years. Great boat. My buddy's 07 Avy is identical accept for color. |
Thanks for that info! Do you know much about the Falcon V? Will the surf wake on it be that much worse where I would notice the difference?

I ride behind a falcon frequently. I'm not a huge fan.

Ended up buying a 2008 Centurion Avalanche C4. Love it! It is lakesurfer's old boat.
