Looking for any denver contacts. I use to ride in aspen when we could, but started riding cherry creek and chatfield end of the year. I should say I drove (tore acl). this summer I plan to be there on most weekends, and we almost always go out at least one day. Looking to find people to up my skill level or just anyone that wants to have a good time. Also looking for anywhere in denver or near that has good water!!

milehighrider 02-23-2005 4:59 PM

i don't ride in denver very much unless it is with somebody else. we are on a lake in ft. collins. if you ever need a third during the week let me know i might be interested. as far a good water in the area, not much to look for. there are a couple of semi private lakes (Sloan & Stanley) these require you to get a pass for the season. hit me up when it gets a lille nice and i can give you a pull. hope that helps, mike

aspenshayn 03-15-2005 10:39 AM

mike, I'll get in touch. <BR>any other co area riders. looking at getting a few informal 'get togethers, demos and what not'. Tommy's seems on board to help out as well. any input would be appreciated!!

leggester 03-15-2005 2:32 PM

We're at Chatfield almost every Saturday morning looking for a third if you want a pull.

wake_pop 03-15-2005 3:10 PM

I'm on the same lake as Mike up by Ft Collins. Lakes almost full already. Should be a good year. Let me know if you want to head up for a pull.

kraig 03-15-2005 8:15 PM

Shayn, you're welcome to ride with us. We ride at Chatfield and travel to Pueblo, Horsetooth and McConnahey. We hit Chatfield almost every weekend. Drop me an email. <BR> <BR>Late, <BR>Kraig

leggester 03-16-2005 5:49 AM

I like the profile pic Kraig. Sunrise over the dam at Chatfield if I'm not mistaken. <BR> <BR>I just got good news. My company is moving from downtown to the tech center. I can start skiing in the mornings before work again!

aspenshayn 03-16-2005 8:36 AM

thx for the invites. Does anyone ride cherry creek. we hit it a little the end of the year. Denver is a hard place to find good water. how is the lake by Ft. Collins? how soon do you guys usually get in the water?

leggester 03-16-2005 12:12 PM

Never, won't go there. Too small a ski area, cops 'r' pricks. <BR> <BR>North is a good bet. Carter, Horsetooth, somee in Brighton area ( private I believe, but pretty loose )

kraig 03-17-2005 6:37 PM

Matt is right! Cherry Creek is way too small. We call it the bathtub. Chatfield is too small too but better than Cherry Creek. Horsetooth is great! Pueblo is good too if you get lucky to be there on a weekend the wind is not blowing. We hit Horsetooth, Pueblo and McConnahey in Nebraska. <BR> <BR>Matt- You're correct, sunrise at Chatfield. We should get together this summer and ride together. We're on the water every weekend, some weekdays.

domin8 03-17-2005 8:06 PM

I am in Denver this week on buisness travel. I was wondering how cold the water is now and if you have started riding out here yet ?

kraig 03-18-2005 2:33 PM

Clete- The water is still frickin COLD! Granted we've had some very warm weather lately, but it still gets down pretty cold at night. I personally don't hit the water here till about the last week of April, first week in May.

leggester 03-18-2005 3:04 PM

Chatfield is about 46 according to CDOW. <BR> <BR>April/May with a drysuit <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> <BR> <BR>Works for me Kraig. We'll keep in touch

domin8 03-18-2005 3:21 PM

Thanks for the info. and you are right it is cold at night. Looks like it's raining at home so probably no delta this weekend for us.

aspenshayn 03-22-2005 9:13 AM

let me know if anyone plans any weekend trips. We usually venture out of the area 4 or 5 times a year not including powell. it's always nice to meet up with cool new people. Stay away from jackson lake. one of the worst weekends I have ever had on water.

milehighrider 03-22-2005 6:35 PM

what i have found is that any lake that is within 3 hours of the city sucks. i know of a couple of lakes that are not very but the water has been so low that you have to get there by june or the water is gone. <BR>---shayn when do you guys go to powell?? i have never been. we usually head to the midwest, the drive is a little farther but the trip overall is a little cheaper.

kraig 03-22-2005 7:06 PM

We do alot of weekend trips all summer long. Chatfield is our home lake so we hit it the most. We kick the season off in Havasu every May. This year we're hittin Havasu May 12-24 Looking for more people to go........... <BR> <BR>Also, we hit Lake McConnahey in Nebraska at least a couple times. This year hopefully at least 3 times. We also do weekend trips to Horsetooth and Pueblo. And again, always looking for more people and/or boats to make it more of a party just like Havasu!!!!!!!! <BR> <BR>We all should get together this summer! The wakeboarding community is getting stronger and bigger here at a Mile High!

denwakebdr 03-22-2005 8:43 PM

Hey denver riders.....We ride at Cherry Creek alot during the week...Just cause it is close to the house...also ride Chatfield and Pueble...We will keep an eye out for ya...We are in a 23' Caravelle with a Boss Tower..ussally out at sundown

domin8 03-22-2005 9:19 PM

shayn mc - we are headed to Powell July 7-13th. Big trip for us from the Bay area. What part of the lake do you go to ?

aspenshayn 03-23-2005 1:01 PM

It would be great to ride with some new people, let's get this party started!!!!! never been to havasu, we always start out at powell. <BR> <BR>I agree on getting together. we should get something set up for a weekend mid may. I can get a pretty good crew <BR> <BR> <BR>clete, <BR>we launch at hall's crossing and go from there. there are some good coves around there..... well there used to be, but who knows now that the water is up, those coves are probably gone. we may be there at that time. I'll let you know when we finalize it. would be cool to see how the west coast does it! <BR> <BR>

leggester 03-23-2005 2:33 PM

Well, Memorial Weekend is still pretty chilly for local camping but I'd be up for a day or three at Chatfield. <BR> <BR>We could meet everyone if nothing else. <BR> <BR>I tend to stay away from Holiday camping. I've got enough seniority that I have around a month off a year. <BR> <BR>Planning to head to Seminoe in WY around the fourth... <BR> <BR>If you guys don't mind a family guy ( 8 year old ) and a foiler <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

kraig 03-23-2005 5:26 PM

<b>Matt, Shayn, Mike, John, Paul- </b>We all should get together at the beginning of the season. We have a pretty good crew. Like you all know, we leave for Havasu May 12th so how about something just before that? Maybe just a get together and meet everyone and do a little boating and boarding. Easily done with a wetsuit or without one. I would suggest Chatfield, but maybe that's too far for the guys up north. Let me know what you think and whoever would be in. And would anyone else be in?

domin8 03-23-2005 9:07 PM

Shayn mc - That sounds good, we will be leaving out of Wahweap and I know that's a long trip. Let us know when it get's closer.

aspenshayn 03-23-2005 9:12 PM

I could swing may 7th and/or 8th. chatfield works for me. I nice little session before havasu will be nice for you. <BR> <BR>A foiler?!?!? oh yeah! should be interesting

leggester 03-24-2005 6:28 AM

May 7th or 8th works for me.

wake_pop 03-24-2005 8:26 AM

I live right by Chatfield. I don't bust out the boat til mid-May or so but I'd be up for a meet and greet there. I'd love to meet some fellow boaters. I don't ski or board much anymore so I live vicariously through my kids and friends. I just love boats and being on the water. <BR>Matt, I had a couple of real good foilers up for a day last year. Now, that looks like a hoot! That might just be my new endeavor. <BR>Any of you locals want to try a new spot, let me know. Our lake is an hour straight up I-25. We're there every weekend that there's water. Bring your cooler, board, stick, or foil up and I'll drag you behind the Bu. Never crowded, no water cops, and we don't drink 3.2 beers! Plenty of room to camp overnight if you want.

aspenshayn 03-24-2005 12:35 PM

Tommy's swap is April 23rd. you can start dropping stuff off to sell the first of april. Does anyone hit this. you've gotta love the free food and pop (or soda as some of you know it).

leggester 03-24-2005 3:06 PM

That's where I got my first hyperlite <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> <BR> <BR>If the forecast is even decent, I'd be willing to host the "base camp". EZup, BBQ, ... ... <BR> <BR>that way I could get my wife to come out. <BR> <BR>Besides, people seem to like her more than me. Hehehe.

kraig 03-24-2005 5:50 PM

I can feel a party brewin...... Seems like the weekend of May 7/8th will work for most of us. It will be nice to meet more of the wakeboarding community and get together throughout the summer. <BR> <BR>Anyone Else???

colorider 03-24-2005 7:58 PM

I used to go to the Tommmy's swap every year, but for the past 3 years I have been out of state for a spring wakeboarding trip. I have sold some items at the swap and always had great luck. Get some good money for my used goods. Only downfall is that if you want the cash, Tommys takes 25%. If you want store credit, you get believe you get 100%. At least that is what I think it was 3 years ago.

milehighrider 03-24-2005 9:19 PM

the 7/8th works for me. just let me know where. as john said before we are on the same lake if we want to do that. and that time of year there should be not to many people on the water. john you gotta get the boat out before mid may, mine is going in to the dealer tommorrow. <BR> <BR>

denwakebdr 03-30-2005 1:45 AM

Hey everyone....Sounds like a party brewing to me too....I will keep an eye on the posts and mail...It would be nice to meet everone..I have a wife and 3 kids. 2 of the 3 board as well as myself...wife just drives and hangs out

aspenshayn 03-30-2005 8:14 AM

I'm only familiar with the boat launch and the dam area of chatfield. never had any reason to venture to the other part. I assume there is a beach/picnic area we could set up base camp. I can be there all of 7th. I will probably come with my girlfriend and 1 or 2 others. how many people will everyone have? Who will have what boats? we may be bringing a '92 malibu w/ tower (you have to specify at that age). looking forward to meeting everyone.

aspenshayn 03-30-2005 12:20 PM

John, is this a private lake that you are on? It would be nice to try something different than cherry creek and chatfeild

milehighrider 03-30-2005 4:53 PM

not to answer for john but yes. we are on the same lake. we will proably start to ride in about 2 weeks if we get any good weather.

h2oprodad 03-30-2005 10:01 PM

just received wakeboard mag 03/30 and it has a great article about the riders who are gunnin for the 1080. Our local Denver pro Tino is in the Hunt with the Big Dogs !! Inside info is tellin me he's got the move down it's holdin the handle thats tough. Everyone keep spinin

aspenshayn 03-31-2005 8:38 AM

going to work on the boat in Hugo on the 23rd of April. if you are going to be out on the water that day let me know if I could stop by and check things out. I won't have the boat w/ me, but it would be cool to check out the lake. maybe even get a pull!! Looking forward to a good season w/ some local riders/enthusiasts.

colorider 03-31-2005 8:55 AM

Sandy, our regular gang of riders is cheering for Tino!!!! Also, I am a close personal friend of James Muniz and he and I would love to host a day with Tino at Standley Lake this summer if at all possible. My email is in my profile if you would like to or are able to give me any information on how we could set this up. It would be a laid back day of just fun riding. Basically, we would just love to see him rip it up on the lake. Can do it any day of the week, at any time. Our group has a Mastercraft, Malibu, supra, tige, Calabria, so he would have a great choice of what boat he would like to ride behind. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by colorider on March 31, 2005)

aspenshayn 03-31-2005 9:28 AM

Andrew, <BR>What's the skinny on Stanley Lake? I called the ranger, but don't think they are open yet. Sounds like you have a good crew. Interested in meeting early may w/ fellow riders?

aspenshayn 03-31-2005 9:32 AM

sorry, actually was checking into sloan.

03-31-2005 9:46 AM

Standley opens May 1. A permit is required. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by swass on March 31, 2005)

aspenshayn 03-31-2005 10:24 AM

any more info on standley?? is it crazy like the rest of the denver water?

03-31-2005 2:58 PM

You have to be a resident of Westminster, Jefferson county, Thornton or Northglenn to purchase a permit. <BR> <BR>It's expensive, small, crowded and shallow. You don't wanna go there.

colorider 03-31-2005 3:14 PM

hahahahah Swass. Standley is a permit only lake. They sell a specified amount of permits on Feb 1st . First come, first serve. They sell out in one day. You pretty much have to be a jefferson county resident to get one. We ride 99.5% of the time after work around 5,and stay out for an hour or 2. Weekends have been kinda crowded for the past few years, so we either go out for just some cruising or sitting in the sun, or avoid it all together. Weekends have also been crazy with tubers, so we let them do their thing and just watch. No alcohol permitted on the lake and it is STRICTLY enforced. For the first month they will do random boat searches. If you get caught, you are done for the year and get a nice ticket and/or arrest. Lake opens may 1st and closes Sept 30th. They have great bathrooms, nice ramp although it only takes one doofus to delay launching, and it happens all the time on weekends. There are lots of fisherman who seem to float in the best of waters. We avoid them if we can, but if not they feel the wrath of the wake. Always fishing in small aluminum boats which take a beating from the wakes. Never had a complaint from them or any altercations to speak of. They understand the need for good water and if we have to share it, so be it. Also, because it is a drinking water source, there is no casual swimming in the lake. Water contact is only allowed if you are tubing, waterskiing, wakeboarding. Stupid rule, but they enforce it. No just swimming around the boats or swimming off the shore. All in all they have some strict rules, but there can be some great water on weekday evenings. It would always be nice to get some more wakeboarders to get permits before the tubers do. We pretty much avoid all the other lakes in CO because of the convienence of Standley and the crowds at the public lakes. We make it to Cherry creek once or twice in the spring and once or twice in the fall if the weather is nice and Standley is not open yet. Most of us live just a few blocks away from the lake too. As compared to Chatfield or Cherry Creek, Standley is nervana, but it too can get frustrating on weekends.

03-31-2005 3:17 PM

But other than that, it sucks.

aspenshayn 03-31-2005 3:29 PM

I called standley today and they said they sold out first day like you said. co water sucks cause I have to travel to ride and can only do it on the weekend. hence, I always get the best of water. Are you guys going to make it out to chatfield early may (7th?)?

leggester 03-31-2005 3:36 PM

There's a spot over by the bluffs at Chatfield I like to set up at. Basically only boat access and inside the no wake area. <BR> <BR>Standley is OK, no barley sodas though. About half the size of Chatfield IIRC. And a bit warmer.

kraig 03-31-2005 4:38 PM

Matt- I know the area of the bluffs you are talking about. Just south/west of the marina in the no wake zone. Good place to chill on the beach. We all could meet at the dock first and then hit the water. I favor the south dock, but with it being a weekend the north dock may be a better bet due to more space there in the lots. There are public slips at the marina we all could meet at too. I never have too much of a problem finding a slip to slide into to chill for a while. All ideas...... <BR> <BR>Good/Great water can be found at Chatfield if you know where and how to look for it. What? Give away my secrets?!? LOL!!! <BR> <BR>

colorider 03-31-2005 8:10 PM

The no alcohol policy on Standley is a good thing. No drunken boat pilots to worry about.Have had some very close calls on CC or chatfield with boozed up morons driving boats or launching their boat. Seems every time we go there something like that happens. Might be that we are not used to it, or not exposed to it but is sure nice not to deal with it. Hence another reason we avoid it.

kraig 03-31-2005 8:48 PM

Yep, that's exactly how Chatfield is. Everyone should stay away, very dangerous. Very Very Dangerous!! Not good, big risk. Lots of accidents, deaths and dismemberment! Better just avoid it! LOL!!!! <BR> <BR>P.S. Could you pass this on to all tubers, fisherman, speedboats and guys who are compensating please. My wakeboarding skills will thank you! LOL!!!! <BR> <BR>

leggester 04-01-2005 6:24 AM

Chatfield is the most dangerous lake to be on. I'd also suggest everyone stay away from it. <BR> <BR>PEOPLE DIE OUT THERE! <BR> <BR>Kraig, you forgot to mention PWCs.

kraig 04-01-2005 5:09 PM

LOL!! Yes, the PWC's. Again, very Dangerous! <BR> <BR>

aspenshayn 04-02-2005 10:20 PM

so when is everyone gonna start?!? I'm itching sooo bad. haven't been out (riding) since late last may. looking forward to meeting and learning from some new people.

milehighrider 04-03-2005 7:31 AM

if the boat is out of the dealer and the weather is nice next weekend. i missed a great day yesterday, 70+, not a cloud in the ski and butta all day. (got the dock finished though)

kraig 04-03-2005 10:01 AM

We hit the water yesterday fr the first time out! A little chilly but it was great to be out there!

denwakebdr 04-03-2005 8:39 PM

Kraig, Where did you ride..Do you know what the water temp. was. Looks like the weather is suppossed to be nice next Fri....thinking about taking the boat out but not sure...got the itch and really lookin to scratch it!!

kraig 04-03-2005 8:49 PM

We hit Chatfield and the water is frickin Cold!! It was more of a day to cruise, test out the new ballast system and the stereo upgrades as well as make sure I didn't have any leaks in any hoses on the engine. That and to get my fix as well! We'll probably be hittin the water again next weekend. Today was a great day, wish I was out there today!

leggester 04-05-2005 8:07 AM

So, who's up for a run? <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/blush.gif" border=0>

dcarell 04-05-2005 8:18 AM

When and where?

leggester 04-05-2005 2:45 PM

Even if it wasn't 38 degrees, that 30+ mph wind will kill ya...

aspenshayn 04-05-2005 3:57 PM

the 6 inches of snow I had this morning didn't help things either, but I hear Denver has a nice and warm weekend ahead of them. a good time to get out and stretch the legs!

kraig 04-05-2005 4:00 PM

We'll be out on Chatfield on Saturday again. So far they are calling for 70's. <BR> <BR>Also, is it looking like Saturday May 7th is going to work the best for everyone? Saturday works best for us, we can make Sunday work too, due to we'd like to get the boat prepped for Havasu on that Sunday.

aspenshayn 04-05-2005 4:04 PM

I will be there. not sure if we will have the boat or not. looking forward to it

kraig 04-05-2005 4:09 PM

Swass- Are you in for the Meet &amp; Greet? Donny and Andrew, are you guys up for it?!? I know it's a public lake but can you guys suffer for one day? LOL!!

kraig 04-05-2005 4:11 PM

Shayn- You're going to be at Chatfield without your boat? If you want to jump in with us you're welcome! I don't think we're going to do any boarding, more of cruising and testing out the new systems that have been installed in the offseason and get our fix of boating on a nice warm spring day!!!!!!!!

dcarell 04-05-2005 4:15 PM

I'm up for it. What is everyone's skill level? Does anybody have kids? Does everyone camp as well?

kraig 04-05-2005 4:43 PM

Donny- We're all semi-pro. Not!!! Don't I wish! We board for fun. We're serious about it and want to up our game, but we have fun with it too. No kids in our group. We do have the occasional family day on the boat, but most days it's not G rated! <BR> <BR>Glad to hear your in Donny! Look forward to meeting you guys!

colorider 04-05-2005 8:16 PM

Swass, Todd and I are going to be out of town for a long weekend spring trip that weekend.

bohdi 04-05-2005 8:26 PM

Sounds like it is going to be an awesome day . As for me I'm part of the " Tsunami Crew " with Kraig. Can't wait to meet a lot of the Mile Hi community. Sounds like some great pics will be taken. Let's blow this darn thing off the charts and make all of the other wake communities all over the country sad because they are not apart. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0> Basically just gonna have a great time. <BR> As for a family fun place. Heck the more the better. Can't speak for everyone ,but adult drinks will be consumed along with pretty loud music on "baby Tsu".So to your discretion of course. Make it a great day. And see you soon.

milehighrider 04-05-2005 9:33 PM

i will be there on the 7th. not sure if i will have the ssv. i would love to come and ride anad hang out with all of you. is the law picky out having cl#s?? i have yet to put them on, i'm holding on as long as i can. since it looks like we are going public on the 7th some time in june we need to head private.

denwakebdr 04-06-2005 12:05 AM

I am up for the 7th....Donny I have children but they are 11,14,15....2 out of 3 ride...if they don't chicken out from the cold...I would be up for camping..Anyone else...We could do a group site!!!Still do the adult beverage thing and music

teamgoboat 04-06-2005 6:11 AM

Kraig, Donny and all the rest I have not talked to. Sat May 7th looks good to me. My wife works until 3 on Sats so I would be solo for the afternoon. I am ready to ride this weekend if anyone wants to jump in my boat or give me a pull in yours. I am scared of Chatfield, maybe it's not bad this early in the season. I have plans to join Slaons lake. They start selling passes on April 22nd and open the lake for launching (Air)on April 29th. Anyone intrested is welcome through the summer to take a pull or become a regular in the SSV. (I really like the idea of rotating boats that way we all get to use our boats and we have plenty of riders to learn stuff.) Let me know what you think. <BR>Goin Big <BR>Brian

leggester 04-06-2005 7:34 AM

If the weather is good, my kid and I will be there. Probably my wife too.

dcarell 04-06-2005 8:18 AM

Brian, Your going out this weekend April 7 and 8th? It's going to rain right? What lake? Water temps?? Dry suit I hope?

colorider 04-06-2005 9:08 AM

donny, looking forward to seeing you and your family at Standley this year.

dcarell 04-06-2005 9:31 AM

Andrew, <BR> I am really excited. We will be there opening day, May 1st at 7am.

bohdi 04-06-2005 1:26 PM

Hey Brian , I believe the thoughts on the May 7th 1st annual "Mile Hi" get together are pretty much what you said. <b>"On the water , over dinner , Beers and booze ."</b> <BR> So with that well said, If you want to go at sunrise and throw down till your tired. Then cruz down along the south no wake line, and tie off all of our boats around 9-10ish. Crank up the tunes and bounce from boat to boat. And who ever wants to throw down some sick air with a stage set sweet. Bring some grub for your own and then for sure have 2 or 10 or so cold ones. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/rofl.gif" border=0> Heck it is pretty much open just to meet the Mile Hi community an have a blast. <BR> As far as times. I think it depends on if you want to go early to hit it then just tie off. Or meet say 11-12 and launch all the boats and go to tie off. Basically very open to Ideas and suggestions. <BR>Make it a great day. Bohdi

leggester 04-06-2005 3:40 PM

As far as what type of day - early or dinner/late, it may be better to see what the forecast says. <BR> <BR>Sometimes it's good in the am, sometimes in the pm.

aspenshayn 04-07-2005 10:26 AM

thanks for the invite kraig. still not sure on the boat. we need to have it checked out. <BR> <BR>I would be down for an early session to kill the hangover and get some good water. does someone have a bbq we can set up?

leggester 04-07-2005 10:28 AM

Got a small one. Cooks about 5-6 steaks at once. <BR> <BR>We can maybe set up a "home base" on the bluffs. Canopy, chairs, coolers, BBQ... ...

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 3:13 AM.
