i know that for resale and everything that the MCX is the preferred engine, but will the 310 cut it if you plan on keeping the boat for a long time? we probably wouldn't ever want to run anything more than stock ballast and we'd probably never have more than 5-6 people in the boat while riding. anybody know what the MCX adds to the bottom line?

brucemac 07-15-2006 10:14 AM

oh, and is there much difference in fuel economy?

thanks

i don't know exactly what the option adds to the priceline, but if you're running stock ballast and have the correct prop on there, the 310 should fit the bill.

I overweight my X1 with Fat Sacs, and with the right prop the RTP-1 (310 Horse) has no problems getting out of the water. With stock ballast and 5-6 people you will have no problems.

"wouldn't ever want to run anything more than stock ballast"
Thats what I said before we bought our X1, now I'm trying to figure how to plumb in some more sacs

Anyways, our boat has the 310 and we have had no problems getting out of the hole, even with 10 passengers it wasn't too bad. You'll be fine.

Kevin- Do you mind telling me how you setup your sacs and how much weight it added. Thanks.

(Message edited by wakeslife on July 15, 2006)

I have run well over 3000 lbs of people and water weight and it still comes out of the hole with the stock prop... It seemed to stuggle at first but it was because I did not have enough weight in the nose. After I added weight... problem solved!

Also, the 310 has more torqe. (Which you need more of, to get out of the hole.) I have seen Attila's boat. even weighted good, it get's right up.

There is a new OJ Prop. 14 x 14.25 and this works great.

abadsvt 07-15-2006 9:42 PM

If the 310hp motor works great then why upgrade? I am already upgrading on mine but i never really thought not too. Did i waste my money? Sorry mac to ask questions in your post but i really never thought there would be this many people agreeing with the rtp motor.

wkbrd 07-16-2006 7:27 AM

Josh-yes with the proper prop you could get by with the 310. For the Pro Tour this year they are not using the LQ9 Caddy just the MCX reproped. With the better prop the MCX outpulled the LQ 9.

310 hp with the right prop will be plenty of pull for any 21' boat. Torque curves are the numbers we should all be looking at for a towboat, not peak hp. Horsepower numbers only show up at higher RPMs, and who cares about those except barefooters?

I assume none of them have carbs, right? Although there's also nothing wrong with a carb that's in good tune, I wouldn't go back to a carb after having MPEFI for a few years. Carbs hurt resale too, these days.

The MCX is a $2350 option.

stepintoliquid 07-16-2006 10:37 AM

I run two 600 ibs in each locker on the side of the engine, 750 ibs on the floor in front of the rear seats, and 2 more 600 ibs in the bow. This is just with 3 people (2 in the boat when 1 is riding) With more people I use less weight.

abadsvt 07-16-2006 10:55 AM

Robert that number sounds right $2350 for the upgrade but it includes more than just the motor. It includes perfect pass, and something else i believe. So basically besides resale and looks the mcx isn't really needed? No-one has said any of the benifits for the upgraded motor. There has to be some pro's also instead of all con's.

attila916 07-16-2006 12:04 PM

Josh... RPT comes with MC cruise for 06... it did not come with it in 05. In other words it was a better value getting the MCX in 05 but it does not make sense in the 06. IMO

curtisco24 07-16-2006 7:37 PM

i've got the 310 in an o6 and it has plenty. The factory manager told me that it was great for the x-1 even with 2000+ in ballast. He said getting a lower pitch prop would not be a bad idea if you were going to ride with a lot of weight. The fuel economy on the 310 is better than in any boat i've had.
