i have to say, a w7 has to be the best looking sub...from what i've seen. but, they are obviously not for every system. <BR> <BR>i'm curious to see what some of the better 'budget' subs are? <BR> <BR>i've had a JL 12w3 before, just switched to Image Dynamics IDQ- the older version 2 (IDQ D2 V2). the version 3 looks like it's alot more subwoofer, more like a JL W6 than W3. <BR> <BR>i'm very happy with the IDQ plus it was $30 cheaper than the JL W3. <BR> <BR>what other subs under $150 are good deals?

wake1823 03-03-2009 9:37 AM

kicker L5's, and some L7's

bkoz 03-03-2009 10:02 AM

Alpine Type R's. I love my Crossfire BMF subs.

timmy 03-03-2009 10:25 AM

I couldn't be happier with my Infinity perfect 12's (circa 2002)

tdeneka 03-03-2009 11:24 AM

I also loved the Kappa Perfect series (I had 10"). I wish they were still available.

wakemikey 03-03-2009 3:07 PM

Hey Salty this is a great Q! I am looking for a single 12" under $150.

hp_inc 03-03-2009 4:14 PM

I will second Crossfires line up. Nice sound for the $$.

mikeski 03-03-2009 4:53 PM

2nd - Alpine Type R

chpthril 03-03-2009 5:10 PM

For a fair comparison, are you talking under $150 MSRP, or subs that people have score for under $150?

882001 03-03-2009 5:12 PM

really like my cvr.

mikeski 03-03-2009 6:09 PM

The Wetsounds XS12 is a bit over $150 but it's still a great sub for the money. My boat blew a 141db score with one XS12 at the Spring Ride soundoff. <BR> <BR>(if you search the score you will see I entered the multi-sub category, when I discovered how they were running the test I disconnected everything but the XS12)

kicker comp VR 12" sub. Very affordable and hits nicely coupled with a good amp. Remember your amp is just as important as the sub itself.

brucemac 03-03-2009 6:49 PM

i'm pretty happy with my Image Dynamics IDQ D2 V3

johnsvt 03-03-2009 7:16 PM

I would consider wetsounds or audioque.

norcalmalibu 03-03-2009 8:09 PM

I've listened to a couple type R's and been impressed. I'm also a fan JL w3 which I feel is the best bang for the buck.

salty87 03-04-2009 5:37 AM

for fair comparison...a sub anyone can get for $150 or less. <BR> <BR>the idq v3 is more like $250, not that it's too much but then you really want a bigger amp for it too. i like having a nice system but i couldn't care less if the people 10 boats over can hear it or not. some of the kickers are out of the range too...and, can they have more models? i give up when i have to figure out some goofy naming system. <BR> <BR>i've never heard a wetsounds sub. i didn't realize that was in the same $ range.

05mobiuslsv 03-04-2009 7:08 AM

Mikeski you wouldn't tell by looking at it that the xs12 would put out that much sound, they don't look all that substantial. Must have been a ported box?

detonate69 03-04-2009 8:46 AM

I have 2 crossfire P1 12's and they pound. I think I got them on closeout for like $200 for the pair. I'm running 1000 watts to them in a sealed fiberglass enclosure and they rock. I hit 137.8 db's in the drivers seat in a sound off last year. Also running all Crossfire amps. Great company.

wakemikey 03-04-2009 12:19 PM

I see Wetsounds XS12 for $240 at MonsterTower. Sorry that is too high for me...

cprfab 03-04-2009 12:41 PM

You should check out digital designs I've been very pleased with them in the boat and my excursion

bkoz 03-04-2009 1:33 PM

Id like to check that out!!! Tell me how I can get a DD sub for under $150??

muckinaround 03-04-2009 2:32 PM

Ditto on the Digital Design. You can't beat them for the money. I'm using the 2500 series in my boat and they POUND. Done a ton of systems using their 500 and 1500 series with very happy customers also

johnsvt 03-04-2009 2:34 PM

Can you get a DD for under 150? <BR> <BR>Audioque 2.5 12"...comes shipped in a DD box.

Where can I find 12" Audioque under $150?

^^^LOVE IT! I was wondering why it was tinyurl'd.

johnsvt 03-04-2009 7:20 PM

I was shown that by someone smarter than me...I think it was limotinted

salty87 03-05-2009 5:49 AM

there's some good stuff on the audioque site... <BR> <BR>"Really loud bass, where you have to scream at your passengers, can be done on a single or double woofer setup. Stupid loud bass, where there is no point in trying to communicate in the vehicle, takes more space and bigger/more subs. F@#$ing crazy loud bass, where it is impossible for the car next to you to communicate inside his vehicle, takes even more space, even more subs and a gazillion watts of power."

wakemikey 03-05-2009 8:32 PM

Ooooh snap I figured I'd get something like that. I saw their website, but I don't really know what models are suitable to a budget-but-not-crappy setup. I didn't find that brand on some of the other vendors stores I was browsing. Under $150 was the thread I think?

wakemikey 03-05-2009 8:36 PM

ok ok I see now on their site street series 12" $140.

lovin_the_wake 03-05-2009 10:11 PM

I use Alpine Type R subs in my car and boat. Love em

johnsvt 03-06-2009 7:29 AM

WMikey...I had an Mmats 1400.2(about 1200 watts RMS) on a single 12 for 2 years and the sub still pounds.
