does anyone have a trick to getting rid of water spots that have been on for awhile. I have tried Duck's Back, elbow grease and some blue gel supposedly designed just for water spots on gel coat, with no luck. I have heard white vinegar but what parts mixed. help !!

vinegar and water.

Vinegar and bottled water 50/50 mixed in a spray bottle, use after the boat goes on the trailer every time---whats a water spot?
|
I mix a little Lime Away with water and it does the trick everytime. You don't have to worry about that vinegar smell!
|
Lime away works great just make sure you rinse it off well...

then rewax...
|
also, sno-bol works better than lime away, and is cheaper.

Sounds like oxidation.
I was at a Marine store yesterday (Boats US/West Marine) talking to a guy about a pre-wax cleaning for the gel coat. I had a slight discoloration/oxidation happening.
There are different products you can buy with varying abrasiveness.
He liked the Dolphinite products, but there are others.
I bought Dolphinite Wax Cleaner for medium oxidation with a medium abrasiveness. It worked well for what I had. If you've got a real chalky oxidation you're gonna need something with a little more abrasiveness. Here's a link:
http://www.boatus-store.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearch?navbar=Y&keyword=&searchDeptId= 4&searchManf=DOLPHINITE&image1.x=14&im age1.y=15
