Wakesetter ballast troubleshooting

Just got a 2008 wakesetter 23lsv. I'm having issues with the front and right ballast not filling when I hit the fill button. I have not tested for voltage at the pump yet, I was thinking I might ask you guys to see if anyone has ever had problems with their control cluster in th dash. I'm thinking that may be th problem. Any advice would be helpful.

Not sure if mine has the same pumps as you but two years ago my 2004 VLX aft port fill pump went out. The rocker switch on the dash would still light up when I pressed fill but nothing would happen. If I pressed drain the rocker would light up and I could hear the drain pump turn on (but nothing was in there so nothing came out) solution: I had the fill pump replaced, issue resolved. I know my boats 4 years older than yours but I hope that could be some enlightenment.

Sounds like the same prob. When I hit the button it says fill but nothing happens guess I will check voltage at the pump and if it has voltage then I guess it is a bad pump

I would check voltages at the pumps first, along with any fuses/circuit breakers. Luckily the pumps are pretty cheap.

I'd also ask on http://www.themalibucrew.com/ as you are likely going to find more specific answers there.

I would bet you have a couple of bad pumps. I have had to replace a couple in he past. They are easy to do.

Thanks for the input
I will check the pumps first

I own the same exact boat. It's not the pumps or the ballast. It's the MUX switch (chrome plated LCD screen the has the black buttons). Search it on the Malibu Crew. You need to buy a new one and it costs like $200, the install is really easy. That will fix your problems.

Thanks Chris. I have heard from another Malibu owner that said that would more than likely fix my prob. Wonder why they have so many problems with those clusters. Do you think that weather (rain) may be causing the problem

Someone mentioned it earlier but if you dont belong yet to themalibucrew.com Its a must. Those guys rock and I learned so much from them when I had our vride.

Hopefully its that quik fix and u can get back out & ride.

Yeah moisture is the issue. I know Malibu had a ton of issues w/ the switches and actually had a campaign to fix it. One of the very few design flaws on our boats.

Use dielectric grease on your wiring connections. That will keep out moisture.

That will help wiring connections but those are not the issue. Short of sealing the switch unit, I dont know of any way to prevent the problem w/ the MUX switch.
