Who rides year-round?

Here in socal, pretty much every sport is a year round deal beside snow boarding.
I can't imagine being frozen inside all winter long.
I have a feeling we will be having another super hot winter. Its November 13 and 80 degrees out today.

fly135 11-13-2012 2:11 PM

They are forecasting a colder than normal winter in Florida because of IIRC the lack of an El Nina. But riding here year round is no problem.

11-13-2012 2:21 PM

^^^say it aint so!! Good thing ive held off planting all my new palms until spring

tdelong 11-13-2012 2:39 PM

I wish I could ride year round :(((( Boats been away since Mid October which is basically as long as possible here in Michigan

robertstone9 11-13-2012 2:47 PM

Rockinrhino 11-13-2012 2:56 PM

Any one now of some good lake around the Dallas, TX area for some December boarding. Or a Texas lake that will have some warm water?

We're already riding in wetsuits here in Tampa in the am. Most ride with 3/2 suits, last yr only wore it for a few weeks, looks like this yr could be more. Water last yr didnt even dip into the low 60s much lol right now its hovering around 71 and im a pansy

Oh and sorry...i know my name isnt John lol

DatTexasBoy 11-13-2012 6:35 PM

We are still riding in East Texas (Longview/Tyler). Water 64*. We are wearing 3/2 full suits. There is a power plant lake that is warmer, but the plant is down right now. Lake Pirkey.

downfortheride 11-13-2012 7:28 PM

UT has a winter crew that will blow your mind! Everybody calls us crazy for having the best snow and not riding it. They just don't see the best water... BOOM!
32 air and 32 water was the coldest we rode... Worth every picture!

Rockinrhino 11-13-2012 7:37 PM

I was looking at lake Monticello, wondering if any one has been on that lake in TX, it also has a power plant

spencercoon 11-13-2012 7:58 PM

Here in AZ we ride year round no problem. A wetsuit is needed starting around thanksgiving.

durty_curt 11-14-2012 6:44 AM

That's very true Mr Coon. Az snow blows, so I just stick to what's good, the water! Water temp this past Sunday was 72°

JoLo_Si 11-14-2012 6:46 AM

Rode OWC on my birthday, December 23rd last year with just shorts and a vest. This month been out in the boat a couple times with a top on but think I'm going to get a long sleave shorty also since it looks like it is going to be a colder winter in Orlando this year. Full suits in Florida are for surfers...

11-14-2012 6:54 AM

^^^lol ok...fashion police. Let me know how that goes for ya when the water this yr gets into the 50s.

wakedaveup 11-14-2012 7:05 AM

Rode OWC yesterday with no top or suit. Weather was perfect!! Oh and Joe, last year it was like 85 degrees on Christmas haha

Haha...im from the north (used to slalom ski and it would be flurries out) but been acclimated to this humid hot weather for 10yrs but Im now wearing sweaters to work and its mid 70s, driving with heated seats on, my blood is soo thin I wear fullsuit anything under 70 degrees.

Call me what you want thats fine:)

simplej 11-14-2012 9:38 AM

Lr3 I fully understand, I know someone who went to Florida for ten years, same thing happened to them. 55-65 for water feels warm when youre coming off a cold snowy New England winter. Still have to laugh a bit when everyone whines about water temps in the 60's when ill hop in my 1mm top and boardies and go for a spin.
I'm jealous of all of you who ride year round, wish I had that luxury. But then again it makes you appreciate the summer more. Put about 175-180 hours on between my buddy's and my boats. And that's for may-August season.

wakedaveup 11-14-2012 9:50 AM

Living in FL is awesome, riding year around is awesome, but dang I miss mountains and snowboarding sometimes. Came from Central CA and there were days you could snowboard till mid day and then get down to the lake by 2/3 for an afternoon set. Miss those days for sure! Simplej your a die hard for riding in that weather! haha

simplej 11-14-2012 10:37 AM

thanks! yes i am die hard, i rode 6 days a week from mid may-august. im hoping i can extend my season now that im graduating school, getting riding in may- late october when the water goes down. But as far as the top goes im just too cheap for a full suit!!! im jealous of you guys for sure, i feel like i could progress much faster if i didnt take an 8 month break, and 1 month of riding catching back up... speaking of graduating if anyone has an opening in the health science/biomed field in the northeast give me a call ( sorry i know its a shameless plug)

I ride all year round with a 3/2 short sleeve shorty. However, I only ride if the temp is in the 70's and on the cable where you can start from the dock and at least get warmed up before falling.

Yeah, the weather guy in the paper made that claim a couple weeks ago. But I just searched the web for verification and all I could find is that we will be about avg this winter.

runin90lx 11-14-2012 12:36 PM

@ryannhart. Monticello is very stumpy from what I remember. Where are you located?

where at do you ride? I'm up here in Michigan as well and I am hoping for snow because my boat has been in the garage since October 14.

captain_vilfo 11-14-2012 2:01 PM

I hate all of you that do.

Rockinrhino 11-14-2012 2:47 PM

From Iowa, looking for a place to ride over Christmas. Texas is only 12hrs away. But would like some warm water. Ill wetsuit it if needed but rather not.

USCWakeboarders 11-14-2012 7:05 PM

havent even needed a wetsuit yet

durty_curt 11-14-2012 8:07 PM

If i could time stamp this to prove that it took this pic today at 1600 after a could day at the lake... 68 degree water with 83 degree air BURRR!

Im always at LB marine stadium. I haven't been to perris in years. I heard they require reservations now?

moto96s 11-15-2012 4:21 PM

Curtis,
You are killing me man! Took the boat out on Sunday and 43 degree water temp and 53 degree air temp. Chickened out when I realized I forgot my wetsuit hood.
Good thing I did as the minute or so I was up to my knees in the water loading the boat after, my legs were aching in a matter of seconds. I think my season out here is over, unless I can find some way to keep my toes warm in open toe bindings.......

I would suggest Agra Dos Reis, Brazil. Their latitude is the exact opposite of South Florida. The Bay of Kings, 365 islands, a new one for each day of the year...

Jmaxymek 11-15-2012 5:32 PM

Possibly cheating as I am Minnesotan, but I rode Mccormick's Jan. 3rd this year just shorts and vest.. Don't remember exact temps but fingers were a little chilly.

Well, that makes that less impressive. Oh well. It was nice riding during the "off season" for me.

BKinSoCal 11-16-2012 8:47 AM

I'll be riding all next week at the Colorado River (Parker Strip). Air temps are supposed to be around 80 and the water should be around 62. Depending on what time we ride, I have my heater top, 3/2 full suit and my dry suit. When we ride in the morning, the air will be in the 50's, so I anticipate the drysuit at that point. Later in the day, When the air is mid to upper 70's, I may bareback it. I'm looking forward to a week of incredible water and weather!

durty_curt 11-16-2012 8:54 PM

You're a couple thousand miles off my friend, this was on a private lake in Arizona

gnarslayer 11-18-2012 4:46 PM

i rode a little bit last winter, but this is going to be my first year to shred all the way through it! weather in austin texas is pretty good so i should be able to progress alot and be fresh for next season :)))!

I will be at BSR a ton if anyone wants to come shred and have fun with me! they have a 70 person hot tub and will be heating the starting dock!

dyost 11-18-2012 6:49 PM

Rode today in Kansas City Area, water 49 on Perry Lake and air 62. Wasn't cold at all in a 4/3..... Glued blind stitched is key.....

Planning to ride again Wednesday in 70 deg air, and maybe day after thanksgiving as well. This is the latest I've been in the water by about three weeks. Would be killer to take a set in December, but we've been consistently in the 40's overnight, so I'm guessing we only have a couple weeks of tolerable water left. February this year would have been possible weather wise, but we didn't make it happen. Long live the mild winter..... I'm close to CO when I want snow.

petrie141 11-19-2012 6:00 AM

We're still riding in Tx, the Austin-New Braunfels area. My wife (who gets cold easily) wears a full suit and I'm now in a spring suit. Air temp 72 water temp 64. Perfect time to wakeskate since hardly anyone else is out there.

rdlangston13 11-19-2012 10:45 AM

Planning on thanksgivings one in the week following thanksgiving if I can get a crew, we will see.

Riding year round: check! And without a suit too :) Had to move all around the world to be able to do so, but it's well worth it. Gotta love Costa Rica!

Rockinrhino 11-20-2012 3:31 PM

Riding tomorrow 3/2 full wet suit in Iowa. Gotta love it.

Gnargnar 11-25-2012 2:15 PM

baitkiller 11-26-2012 5:07 AM
