So what is the advantage of riding an actual "wakesurfboard" as apposed to just riding a surfboard. I tried wakesurfing this weekend for the first time and loved it, but I rode my 5'10 surfboard and had no problem at all, well, sometimes I needed to rely on the rope but I was still getting the hang of it. I am definetely going to continue wakesurfing so would it be in my best interest to buy a actual wakesurfer??

IMO, the best way to start is with a larger board, than you ultimately need. With respect to "wakesurfers" your 5'10" is large. I think that most folks find as they become more proficient, they are able to step down in length.

The shorter boards and wakesurf specific boards offer a number of advantages. One, is that radical moves are possible. Similar to shortboards in the ocean. This picture of James shows a quick cutback. Even if you have the skill to flip your 5'10" 180 degrees, the length makes it unweildly for even the simplest of moves.

I think it's human nature to want to progress your riding. The wakesurf specific boards will help you in that regard.

However, if your intent, when wakesurfing is just to cruise, never really attempting more than staying in the pocket, your current choice is fine.

Oh no, I'm all about progression, I just left my local shapers shop and he is going to make me a 5'0 double ended kind of hybrid shape that we just came up with. It will look similar to the 50/50 modle that is out there, and will have a fin bow on the nose for a small trail fin as well as reverse stomp pads so you can bust shuv-its and ride it in either direction. We were already laying some bug cutbacks and I had my fish backwards but like you said, the length kept hurting the manuevers. I made one 360 but had to bail before I ended up on the swim platform. I will say this-wakesurfing is one cool ass sport, and it sure hurts al ot less when I eat it then wakeboarding!!! I think you guys got me hooked!
