I have just started surfing and am going to buy sacks and or lead to get a better wave. Anyone with the same/similar boat give me some ideas and placement that work well? Any input is appreciated. Right now I just use the stock center ballast 900# i think and as many people as I can get.

slimjim44 06-17-2009 2:58 PM

When I rode with Dennis in a v230, he had 600# of lead and about 500# of water in the rear locker, plus the stock 350# ballast in the locker. Had the center filled. Wake was huge.

drilldaddy78 06-17-2009 3:08 PM

Nothing up front?

dennish 06-17-2009 6:02 PM

Trevor,
The v230 is similar to my V215. Full stock ballast up front and on the surf side. I use 600# lead and maybe 350 in water. The picture is with maybe 200 lbs of water only. I see that you ride Buena Vista correct. How deep is that lake? I thought it was not very deep.

(Message edited by dennish on June 17, 2009)

Any extra weight on the surfside/up front will help

drilldaddy78 06-17-2009 11:11 PM

n\No its not deep at all maybe 7-8 feet at best. Will the wave be better in a deeper lake?

ragboy 06-18-2009 1:03 AM

15-20 ft at least for good wake, under 10 is VERY tough. I was surfing in the delta one time, at 30+ feet, and hit a section of 7-8ft, and wake just dropped in half. Like I had no weight at all. Depth went back to 30 ft, and then wake came back.

Good info guys. I appreciate it. Guess ill just have to start driving further when we go out. Anyone know of other good lakes in the area? castaic, pyramid and piru are the three I can think of in an hour radius for me

black_ops_09 07-15-2009 9:55 AM

Hey dennis, I have never surfed but want to get into it, I just bought a 09 V215, what is the setup you use? That will give me a good idea where to start. Thanks

Sick boat Jason!

dennish 07-15-2009 6:03 PM

Hey Jason,
I described how I weight my boat above the picture. Very nice looking boat. Send me a PM if I can give you any more detailed information.

ive got a 230 sanger 2002, ski the delta and just got into surfing big time, today am going with 1100lbs in the rear wake locker, 500lbs in the stock center and i have another 440lbs i may put under the seat or all the way up front. ill post how it goes tonight .... sure hope the shallow water doesnt affect the wave that much!!

wofrankwo 07-22-2009 6:02 PM

just got back in ... 1100 in the wake side rear ... 440 in the bow ... my stock bow is leaking some so had to put the 440 for the passenger seat in the front ... wish i woulda waited with the front 440 to see what just the 1100 did in the rear and then see what difference the 440 in the bow made ... either way the wave was awesome to say the least ... so i had a total of 1540 plus full tank of gas ... cant wait to add another 500 minimum and maybe 1000 .... ill keep posting and let you know results

wofrankwo 07-22-2009 10:57 PM

friday going to put 1540 in the rear wakeside ... see what happens .... then fill up the stock 500 in the middle ... then will head out to some deeper water to see how much depth affects the wake

^^^Post pics please^^^

wofrankwo 07-24-2009 3:27 PM

just got back .... 1100 in the locker, 440 on the seat at the rear corner .... nothing in the front .... 4 adults in the boat the wake had a curl ... incredible looking .... forgot camera will take pics when we go back out this evening .... i see why the lead now ... 400lbs of lead and you could still get the 2 550lb sacs in the locker .... 1500 in the rear locker with the 440 on the seat .... ooooh that would be cool LOL

no_really 07-25-2009 3:57 PM

Cool-look forward to seeing them.

wofrankwo 07-26-2009 9:09 AM

heres a picture of the wave ... remember im 52 LOL ... old camera and the picture does not do any justice to the wave .... i had 1100 in rear ... 440 on the rear seat .... nothing in the front .... had 7 kids in the boat ... will post better pics early next week

I would have thought with that much weight it would have been lots bigger. Here is our wave with 750lbs. rear 500lbs. mid ship and 5 people.

(Message edited by jetskiprosx on July 26, 2009)

we are trying and learning .... we were in about 6 - 10 feet of water .... my front sac leaks too much to use at the moment .... whats funny at the moment is how much the wake changes by someone in the boat moving a little bit .... maybe its the lack of weight in the front or the shallow water? but i love your pics!!!!!!!!!

jetskiprosx 07-27-2009 7:01 AM

The 230 LOVES weight up front! If you can get 300-500 up in the bow you will notice a huge difference in the wake. The weight up front really helps to clean up the wake and define the pocket (also helps with the wakeboard wake). We have ran that same setup as above but with 12 people and the wake is top notch.

wofrankwo 07-28-2009 3:21 PM

just got back in .... 1100 in the rear ... 440 on the seat ... 3 adults .... the water depth matters big time ... heres a pic in 14ft of water ... we had the 440 in the front at first but when moving it to the back seat the wave got better ... pulled the boat out tonight and try and fix the front sac ... would like to see the 500 in the front also ... now i gotta go find a lake LOL

dollabill 08-22-2009 11:54 AM

I used to have an 04 Sanger V 230. I would put 750# & 500# in the rear locker, 500# on the side seat, 500# of the floor next to the seat and 300# in the bow. This of course is as good as it gets. I would certainly compare it to my 08 Enzo 230 w/switchblade.

wofrankwo 08-23-2009 9:22 AM

heres what i ended up with .... 1540 in the rear locker and 500 in the front stock bag ..... great wave .... what i found though is when its just me and my 2 kids we empty the water in the front and the rear gives us plenty of big wave .... with the water in the front the wave goes away with the light weight in the boat .... i am going to try putting 680 on or under the side seat and see what happens as ive been told it will be good!
