03 Wakesetter VLX needing new block

Found a VLX with 500 hours and the interior in great condition BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT it needs a new engine block. They are wanting 26750 for the boat as is. Is this a project I should take on? Is it worth it? Said they had a shop inspect it and the only thing it needs is a new block but wouldn't that open the door to other problems? Is rebuilding a boat engine the same process as building a car engine? This would definitely be a winter shop project. A block is what 1500 bucks max?

too much. I didnt pay much more for my 03 with a good engine and 270 hours. I would definitely try and talk him down a few thousand more

where can I search prices of remanufactured engines? Swapping engines would be much easier than rebuilding.....

When I was looking for boats, I found a clean 03 vlx for that price. I think $20k would be more reasonable given that you are buying a boat that you cannot test and needs a motor.

I wouldn't give more than 10k for the boat. Even though it may only have 500 hours. What is the problem with the block? Freeze, blown head gasket, Seized up, Bent valve. You'll have to tear down the motor to figure out whats still good and whats not. From there your cost can greatly vary depending on what has to be replaced.
