wakemitch 05-10-2010 8:16 PM

Everybody knows the early pimp gets the perm.

wakecrzy2000 05-10-2010 8:16 PM

Wow that is crazy, nice work!

shredsickgnar 05-10-2010 9:07 PM

Wakeboarding trick names are the gayest things in the world.

antbug 05-10-2010 9:19 PM

and big perm is one of the better ones...

bigpapaf1f 05-10-2010 9:20 PM

mad props to nick not tryn to take anything away at all I he is a rad guy, but I think Brannan Johnson land it years ago (like atleast 10years ago) and named it a "Big Johnson"

gene3x 05-10-2010 9:26 PM

That was just an Ole 7 he did not even go upside down..... :D:rolleyes:;)

bigpapaf1f 05-10-2010 9:30 PM

Im tryn to find my Shafted I will check it out. I think that was the video where he does a few.

andy_nintzel 05-10-2010 9:36 PM

I am dizzy!!!

Nice work

I mis brandon Johnson........squirt shredder!

ralph 05-10-2010 9:43 PM

That is super impressive, he make it silky smooth. That malibu wake is a thing of beauty.

cheesydog 05-10-2010 9:47 PM

very nice, now handle pass it for the 9!

dakid 05-10-2010 9:59 PM

brannan's big worm on shafted wasn't a 7. not that i know of, anyway.

flydenrict 05-10-2010 10:29 PM

Thats nuts. still trying to go over it in my head.

shredsickgnar 05-11-2010 12:10 AM

Mark, that rotation was actually a 1080. If he added another 180 it would be a 1260.

i disagree. i think "big perm" is one of those names that makes wakeboarding sound lame. but whatever - i didn't invent the trick so i don't have a say in it.

i'm actually surprised that no one's shortened the "big worm" name to "b-dub".

kyle_L 05-11-2010 3:52 AM

This is called a Big Johnson and has been done many many times by the inventor Brannon Johnson.

ghettofab 05-11-2010 8:30 AM

me and nick talked about this. Did Brannon Johnson ever have video document of the "big Johnson" ?

gene3x 05-11-2010 9:03 AM

I meant Ole 1080 ;)

mdaijogo 05-11-2010 10:05 AM

Just reading that trick name reminds of the movie: Friday.

Big Perm. Big Worm.

m-

thedoubleupkid 05-11-2010 10:22 AM

Congrats to Nick! Yeah someone please stop the madness with these names. Off-Axis Ole 10 or something.

kyle_L 05-11-2010 10:23 AM

DC, i'm sure it is on video somewhere but back then people weren't bringing video cameras out for every set. I don't think he would have named the trick after himself if he never landed it, and for how easy big worms were for him along with his ability to effortlessly land blind, i would definitely not argue with him about landing a big johnson

captain_vilfo 05-11-2010 10:32 AM

big johnson lol

thedoubleupkid 05-11-2010 10:34 AM

Just to point out - this is a 1080 rotation. The first 3 is hard to distinguish but it is there - after leaving the wake Nick's body rotates 3 but when looking at the board, it is hard to see. Watch his shoulders.

I'll be the first to say BJ is/was a killer old school legend so I salute his riding. Whether BJ was the first to land this or not - it is somewhat irrelevant in today's terms. Nowadays w/ FB, Twitter, instant social networking - video is king. So let's give Nick Jones a hi-5 for letting us all see this move first hand. Thanks buddy!

rmcronin 05-11-2010 4:25 PM

On the slo mo, the rotation is easy to follow. Hands down, Ole 1080, no need for another name. Wish I could do it, sweet!

sidekicknicholas 05-11-2010 4:26 PM

Awesome!

wakekat15 05-11-2010 4:33 PM

Awesome trick. Interesting that Alliance has the description of the video as a Big Johnson vs. big perm. I could have sworn the link called it a Big Perm earlier when I checked it.

JohnM 05-11-2010 4:52 PM

Wow crazy trick!

I don't see how this is a 1080 rotation?

Is a Whirly now an ole 7 and a Whirly 5 an ole 9?

not tryin' to be a smart ass, but did you not watch the slo-mo version of it at the end of the video?

jtnz 05-11-2010 9:28 PM

Was that an invert? Jaw droppingly impressive I wish I could do that, or even half of that, but looks like an OA 1080 to me. He didn't get upside down really.

hyperlite 05-12-2010 3:58 AM

Nick is a really impressive rider. Have had a couple chances to ride with him and Robbie Carter a while back and it was a lot of fun. Halarious guys. Amazing riders. Nice to see some NW boys coming into their own and making some noise

JohnM 05-12-2010 8:59 AM

Joe,

For the sake of argument:

I see 720 degrees of FS spin plus a toeside front roll invert. If you break the trick down it is a toeside frontside 180 into a switch whirly five.

Are Whirlys no longer considered inverts?

I just do not understand the push for a change in terminology. People wanting to call crow mobes and HS Backroll Mobes Ole 720's.

Is it to relate better to snowboard terminology?

If you did a mute crow mobe into the wrap and a mute TS FS OA ole 720 in a contest would they count as different tricks?

I remember when Watson first started doing the mutes crows and mute HS backrolls Ole style and remember how unique it made his riding look.

JohnM 05-12-2010 9:03 AM

Phillip Soven Melan Crow 720

landowakettu 05-12-2010 9:30 AM

John,

I can see where they get the 1080 rotation but I also can see where you are correct as well. I think we need to stop arguing semantics for the sake of arguing.

This trick is in fact Big Perm/Big Johnson whatever the correct way to call it. You can't count his "TS frontroll" as one of his rotations.

waterdork88 05-12-2010 9:37 AM

I don't get it the change in terminology either. We're really splitting hairs again. The day I hit my first backroll to revert I hope my boys aren't like "Ummm actually, that was a hs ole 5" ... maybe Parks never hit a double half cab roll nor a double mobe. Maybe they're really double cork 9 and double cork 10

John i did the math and broke down the trick into an equation which will clearly end this discussion for good.

devildog_ra 05-12-2010 10:02 AM

As you can all see this ends in an endless loop so the final answer is that it is in fact an awesome trick.

JohnM 05-12-2010 10:11 AM

Agreed

I'm going to go do some parkour now.

cheesydog 05-13-2010 12:14 AM

ryan that actually made sense to me

I did, and saw a scarecrow, with then an overhead 540. Ole scarecrow 7 in my mind, or a Big Johnson/Big Perm. Stuck that landing!
