Triple X fin set up

I have a 2009 Triple X Slasher Pro X Surf Style Wakesurfer. Just wondering how easily it would be to switch fins from this board. it came with these little 1.75 "wake" style fins. All I see on wake surfboards lately are larger more surf style fins. (even their new boards come with them) I have read that these can generate more speed and control.

does anyone know if i can change these fins out? i know some boards have "fin boxes" or something, while others use a two screw wakeboard type instalation. any help would be, well, helpful.

thanks

Just checked out my board. Definitely "wakeboard" style attachment. two holes three inches apart from the middle of the holes. anyone know of fins i can get to upgrade? hey, if i had the money, i would get a new board!

thanks again!

I have the same board, 4.8. It's a sweet, fast, reactive board. You don't need a new board! Mine came with the surf style fins that you can see if you look at the bottom of the board pictured here:

I ride with 2 fins, and not the center fins.

Maybe they sent yours with the Skim fins??????????

I'm with Lionel, sounds like yours ended up with skim style fins.

The board should have FCS bases, which offers you a number of fin choices with FCS fins (http://www.surffcs.com)

^^^ boxes -- not sure why I typed bases

Lionel,

definitely smaller fins than the ones showed on the link you posted in your reply. I think you guys are correct about the skim fins. they are like 1.5 inches tall. Am i correct in assuming larger more surf style fins could increase hold and drive?

Brian,

It does not have FCS boxes, just drilled through holes like a wakeboard.

the guy at triple x said that they dont have larger fins for me to purchase, because they switched to FCS format after the 2009 year. but i think the replacement fins for Ronix surfboards will fit, at least i hope so!

I have that same board and I put Hyperlite 4.5" landlock surf fins on it which I don' think they make any more
http://www.wakeboarder.com/products_...oducts_id=1502

They were sold out everywhere online last year and I was surprised to find my local shop had some in stock.

It was an easy swap as they both have the two hole wakeboard fin configuration. I don't think you will have much luck w/ finding the 4.5" landlock fins but Ronix is now making replacement surf fins at 3.5" which will be a huge improvement. They should fit.

Ideally, FCS for Future Fins would work best on a surf style board but removing 2 screws was much easier then installing future fin boxes or FCS plugs and the Hyperlite 4.5" fins work just fine.

yea you have the 2009 surf style board. I like it with the smaller fins makes it feel more like a skim style hybrid surf style board. My friend has a 2009 slasher 4'6" and he likes it with just the one fin but everybody is different. All the 2010 slasher board swithched to FCS fins and the 2010 slayer has pro boxes. One of my other friends has a 2009 5'0" slasher and he wanted more grip so we found FCS kite board fins I think they are 2 1/2 or 3 inches and he runs a twin fin on that he likes that a lot more. I like it with just the 3 small fins in it it has a lot of drive with that hard rail and flat tail rocker. I have the Slayer and that one by far is the best out of their surf style boards. More of a performance board.

Thanks for the input guys!

JasonDJ,

I have some Ronix fins coming. It makes me feel better that someone else thinks they will fit as well.

Nick,

hopefully will be able to upgrade this next season. I still like triple X and will definitely look for their new products!

That website were my friend found those fins is www.fins4sale.com if you ever need to find more.

I put two ronix hook 3.5" fins on the sides (they fit perfectly) and the board is MUCH faster. it is so much easier to pump from far back, i just need to get used to the grip now. maybe drop the center fin?

anyways, thanks for input!

Droping the center fin will help loosen the board up. The center fin provides a more stable ride which is also stiffer and harder to spin, etc.

what is the biggest fin size anyone makes?

You can get regular ocean surf fins very long that are used for long boards, but if your inquiring to the longest fin with the two hole wakeboard fin setup, I haven't found anything longer then the Ronix 3.5"

http://www.boardstop.com/product_inf...oducts_id=4218

Like I said before, Hyperlite used to make 4.5" landlock surf fins but I don' think they make them any more or at least they are not available online.

http://www.wakeboarder.com/products_...oducts_id=1502

You can also buy regular surf fins and drill holes in them like Shane did: http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showt...ighlight=ronix

But the Ronix 3.5" fins will probably work out fine.
