What boat has the cleanest low speed wake
So tons of threads about best wake, biggest wake and optimal loading of all boats.
With 8&6ye old daughters now starting to ride consistently and being almost time for them to start jumping, what boat puts out a clean, low speed, no ballast wake for the shorties, but still satisfies your intermediate/advanced riders when weighted? Decent goofy side surf wake would be bonus . My original star is wash to about 20.5-21 |
The vlx is very good at low speed with small ballast
|
The VLX rules at slow speed wake. Here's ours at 18mph, no ballast, no wedge, 5 people in boat. I can easily go down to 17mph.
Pretty much any Malibu or Axis will be good at the low speed wake. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/xWHetkrE2ck?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Axis will do just as well at low speeds. A20&A22
|
G23 is clean down to about 17.
|
Rzr/r20 wake is good at about 17 unweighted with good goofy wake, don't think the other tiges will put out a low speed wake. the g series is great, mcx25 (avoid 2010 models) x star x15.... The list goes on
|
The Supra SA is clean at 17
|
I would say Malibu 23 has the cleanest wake at slow speeds.
|
My unwieghted Tige 22V creates a clean wake at 17-18mph (unwieghted). Sometimes I can get it to clean up at 16mph. I pull a lot of youngsters and most of them ride around 16-17 mph.
|
The new Supra SA and SC will clean up at 17 like said above. Many of the other Supra models from previous years will not.
|
sanger 215 is the cleanest I've seen at low speeds
B52 is the worst (older style) MC X-30 was decent I've heard malibu's are very nice. |

I have a new X-30 and I am getting my 2 kids into boarding (aged 5 and 7). The wake can be clean down to 17, and that's even with some additional lead. I feel it is a great wake for kids to learn on because its mellow but can get pretty big when weighted with 3k (see pics).
|
No rear ballast and lots of weight in the bow is key on our Enzo, we can get down to about 15-16 mph this way for my 8 yr old. The only problem it the wide beam of the Enzo makes for a wide wake. I would think this holds true for all hulls (bow weight vs stern weight). I really want to try some trim tab extensions, I think they would work well in this application.
|
The supra SA cleans up really good at 16 or 17mph.
|
Malibu / Axis will be your best bet, imo. The wake is clean at slow speed, not side to side sensitive, and the wake is mellow. Some other boats may be clean at similar speeds but may also be a steeper wake. Also, throw 3k+ in any malibu or Axis and you have a huge wake.
Like mentioned above, with no ballast except some in the bow, you can flatten and clean up your wake at slower speeds at the same time. |
You can't run bow ballast in that old X and get it clean at 18?

This is my Sanger D215 with front ballast full and Bennett plate all the way down at 14 mph. My son is just 8 in this photo. His sisters are in the bow and Mom took the picture from the observers seat.
Picture is from 2007. Falls don't hurt as much when they are slow. The FAE leaves the bubble trail down the centre. |
wow! I think we have a winner.

Thanks for the input so far. I was figuring bu would be a top contender. The wakes are always smooth n rampy |
X2 has a clean wake at low speeds. We usually have kids and beginners on our boat and that was something we definitely looked for.
Our previous Malibus also had clean low speed wakes. |

Yup tried all the variables. The problem with nothing is that the nose rides so high around 17-19 it won't hop on plane. This is with 2 adults and two kids in boat just for reference.
That 215 wake looks great as does that little ripper awesome. |
The addictor!

I was just out this afternoon and remembered this thread. My 04 Sanger V210 was clean at 15.5 according to my stargazer.

V215
V215 with no ballast and 3 people in the boat is clean at 14...

I thought i had a better pic of the wake with my son riding... he just turned 5 to give you an idea of how mellow the wake is. this is an axis at 15 mph with a little weight in the front and three peeps in the boat - it cleans up easily and is not sensitive side to side. Rope is about 70'.

Can anyone help me get a clean wake on a tige rz2 2008 at 17 mph. My kid is 7 and just rode behind a new g23. It has a amazing wake at 17 mph without any ballasts. No my son thinks our rz2 is crap because at 17 mph all I get is wash on the rz2.

Well not for surfing at least. I've had semi pros surf on my boat and they tell me it's the best surf wave they have ever surfed. I also surfed off the g23 and it wasn't even close to my tige (I have convex vx and about 5000 pounds of ballasts) but I spend so much time working on the surf wave that I ignored the wake. Any ideas on how to get a good wake at slow speeds beside spending $100k on a new boat?
|
You probably wont get that in the rz2. You will need a boat with less deadrise. The deeper v helps for surfing, but hurts a lower speed wakeboard wake. Something like a Malibu 23LSV, VLX, MC X10, X30, CC G21, G23, or Supra SA, SC, (and probably a few others) have less deadrise, but also a hull that puts out a great surf wake. For surfing, they will require a little more weight than a deep v, but those models all put out awesome surf wakes, and excellent wakeboard wakes, at any speed above 17.
Tige likes to make hulls with lots of deadrise for surfing. |
Yamaha AR240. Anyday. ;););)
|
'79 Nautique 17 MPH and clean as a whistle. Flat bottom biatch.
|
For,the time it takes, try removing your FAE. My stars wake certainly has been effected by the FAE, more so at slow speeds.
|
Our 2012 RZR is good at 17 but the vlx has the best slow speed mellow wake I have seen.
|
what about moombas?
|
N.O.T. MB. Not in 1M years. Prolly my biggest criticism/frustration.

How does the f22? Transom of that boat looks just like rear of any other MB to me. Same as a f21 and b52 |
Our old hull SANTE (Supersport) is pretty darn clean down to about 14/15 mph with no ballast.
I don't have pictures though. |

For wakeboarding we typically run 500 bow, and about 1/4 stock @ 19mph 70'
|
G23 is clean down to about 17.. my old LSV could go down to 14-15 clean.

Looks pretty darn good, especially for a kid! Wake looks more narrow than I'd expect at 18. Is this wake really really narrow at 22? |
Holy thread revival. That F22 looks great..... I also have one more boat to add One of which I pulled the trigger on.
The 09 SANTE 210 was clean all the way to 17.7 Was really impressed and the hydrogate worked really well. I knew it was a top level performer for me , but was impressed at the wake for the kiddos |
I just commented to a friend how clean the wake was on his 2006 Moomba LSV at pretty much any speed.

What boat has the cleanest low speed wake
My axis a22 is clean down to 16 mph. My 8 yo is jumping one wake with no ballast at that speed.

We haven't played around with adding any bow weight, but here is our MB F22 with no ballast at about 16-16.5 mph with my 12 year old daughter.
|
My previous 09 Supra 21V was NOT clean under 20. So I would avoid that hull.
|
If you're willing to older then '96ish mastercraft 190/205 is a good bet, small wake a low speed and can be weighted pretty well (the 96 onward 205 was the same hull as the original x-star). I've had over 3000lb of ballast in mine (fat seat, 2 fat sacs down the side, fat sac in the bow and a few barrels dotted around) and it had a really nice wake for intermediate/advanced riders - it scared me!
