I have a 2002 Launch SSV and the engine is bogging down when I am giving it gas to get up on plane. I have since replaced the fuel filter and no change. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice would be great.

Thanks
CJ

this may be silly, but when was the last time your impeller was changed?

02ssv 03-30-2009 11:46 AM

At least a year ago. Would that cause this? Sorry if that's a dumb question but i'm not the smartest when it comes to engines.

How's your transmission and v-drive fluid level?

showtime 03-30-2009 11:51 AM

i had this happen on mine once when the impeller went... sorta like a limp-home mode, would only allow partial throttle... of course your engine temp would rise as well...

02ssv 03-30-2009 11:51 AM

I will check those today Jon. The V-Drive light has not come on, and I don't notice any funky smell.

Tickle- How hard is it to change the impeller myself?

Isnt the first thing to check water in the gas. I know that has been a problem for me before especially if it has been sitting all winter. It usually means emptying the water/fuel separator and adding some additive to your gasoline.

I had water in the gas of an old boat of mine. It would start and idle fine, but when you gave it gas and raised the bow, the water in the fuel filter would spill out into the carb and kill it. So since you already changed the filter, check the gas.

There's a screen filter in the bottom of the fuel pump. Sounds like it's got some junk in it.

salty87 03-30-2009 12:51 PM

if the fuel filter you changed is a water separator, it should get the water or need to be replaced again.

is your fuel vent line clogged up?...wag

I'll check the screen filter as well tonight.

how many hours are on your boat? it could be your spark plugs

02ssv 03-31-2009 3:58 AM

Just under 300. Do you think the plugs are bad already? I will have one pulled and check it. Thanks for all of your help.

Same thing happend to my boat, it would get up to 3200 rpm then go back to 3000 with the gas to the floor. Ended up being a oil pressure sensor. If the impeller looks good and you still have issues don't kill you master power switch until you get it to someone that can read the computer on your motor. If you turn your power switch off it will clear all the codes and nothing will show up when they go to read it.

wackbag 03-31-2009 7:21 AM

check your power and ground wire connection. Could be that simple.

02ssv 03-31-2009 7:38 AM

Luke, Is that something that you fixed your self or did you have to take it in. Either way how much $$$ am I looking at?

Thanks,
CJ

tl_hereford 04-01-2009 6:40 AM

I paid $75/hr for mechanic, he told me what was wrong and what I needed. I went to a auto parts store bought the sensor for $60 and put it in myself. I have a 2000 Indmar 325 assault and it takes parts for a 97 chevy 4.7L. The key is to find a good mechanic who will shoot you straight.

ridininmd 04-01-2009 10:28 AM

What is the engine temp when it's bogging?

02ssv 04-01-2009 11:21 AM

Engine temp is normal. I ran it for the first time since changing the fuel filter with a new tank of gas today. I also topped off the v-drive level and tranny fluid, cleaned filter and it drove like new today. Thanks for all your tips
