Ok So I have not had any major wakeboarding injuries (knock on wood) being that I am not that good yet and haven't been doing it for long. So All you guys that have had acl surgery and can't go out on the boat etc. If you are the boat owner do you still go out anyways? I mean I love chillen on the boat and just floatin around, that is all there is to do on any lake in the middle of the day when all the crazies are tearin up the water. So what do you do when you are on the DL for the summer?

jarrod 05-04-2008 10:03 PM

Drive, take pictures, cheer your friends on.

I've gone before when I wasn't able to ride and it can still be a lot of fun if the people you go with are fun. I've been more DL'd by law school though than anything else though. I let a select few (2) of my buddies take the boat out without me. I figure that I'm so blessed to have a boat and those two guys have made having it even better, that I would be ungrateful not to let them enjoy it without me.

(These are the type of stand up guys who help with maintenance if something goes wrong without my asking and bring chicas without my asking. )

I'm not a boat owner but I'm out for the summer and plan on taking pictures of other people all summer long when I do get out on the boat. I had shoulder surgery 4 weeks ago and not able to ride all summer long. Or not supposed to anyway.

if its your boat and you still down to go out and chill and you don't mind then go for it but your crew should step it up with the kick down for the gas especially if the dude who's rig it is isn't even riding and took it out for his homeies

xstarrider 05-04-2008 11:44 PM

for sure man....just because you can't ride doesn't mean you can't chill and push your buddies and enjoy the ride on the boat.

I pulled people all summer after I tore my ACL MCL and Meniscus. WAs great. Kept me from going insane

foxrepdc 05-05-2008 6:31 AM

Yeah I for sure would be out there....getting to ride is only 50% of the draw for me. Beers go down a LOT easier with sun, water, and your pain med.

Easy choice......sit on the couch or chill on the lake?

dppaneig 05-05-2008 6:40 AM

Always go out, I can watch all day.

ah the perfect time for me to answer your question. I own a 97 sport nautique and tore my acl and did a few other things to my knee on the 15th of last month. I had surgery on the 30th. Since then I have taken out my boat three times. This is not even closed to the use that it would usually get but I figure that I didn't break my hand and I can still see so I can drive and take pictures when we aren't on my ride. I like to drive and I know that I give fantastic pulls and my boat throws a great wake compared to some of the other options that my buddies would have to resort to so that they can continue to ride a lot. I think that they really appreciate the fact that I am willing to pull them even though I can't ride cause we are a pretty tight crew. I don't expect to have to contribute a dime to gas though and if they were not appreciative of me taking out my boat then I would not do so. I also think that it is bad for a boat to sit and not be used.

Hell while you are out you can still be part of the wake community by posting on here and going to events. Just went to cable stock this weekend and it was sick. I also work in a shop and have been selling stuff through emails since I can't be present in the store.

Do all you can to stay active and don't let an injury keep you bummed. I am trying to become a better coach for wakeboarding as well by reading on learn wake and watching the book so that I can tell my buddies what they are doing wrong and it will help when I start coaching again this summer to have all that good info engraved in my brain. Sorry about the long post.

If I injured myself I would still be the one calling everyone to go to the lake. The wakeboarding scene to me is so much more then being behind the boat. It's being in the sun and hangin with you friends. A crappy day on the water is still better then a good day at work. I love just being on the water.

xaggie 05-05-2008 9:45 AM

Dave has it right. Half the time I have so many people that I don't get my run in at the end, but being able to see all my buddies enjoy something that they otherwise couldn't is good enough for me. I work in the industry, I can go out on a rainy Tuesday if I wanted, most people can't. I've been on the water at least 2 days (work, and personal) a week for the past 3 months and yesterday is the 3rd time I've been in the water. A bad day on the water is better than a good day most other places!

guido 05-05-2008 10:04 AM

Yup, I love being on the water. I've been on the DL a bunch of times and still love being out on the boat kickin' it.

Wakeboarding is about way more than just going for a ride. It's a lifestyle.

mendo247 05-05-2008 10:28 AM

To me its all about being on the water with friends. Ive always had boats and just started wakeboarding and surfing in the last 5 years. There are plenty of days when im not feeling like riding but still go out just to relax and kick it with great friends. You could take away all my gas money and wakeboards and id still launch the boat, paddle out and drop anchor and chill.

boardcrazy 05-05-2008 4:07 PM

It wouldn't stop me from getting out...besides, I like to watch
