Hey I posted here because there seems to be more Boat Owners here and that's who this question is for. <BR> <BR>Don't you hate it when your out and people come up to you and say "How much", (They want to know the cost of your Boat, Truck or Motorcycle) <BR> <BR>I think this is very rude. I to wonder about the cost of other peoples rides but would never walk up to some one I don't know and the first thing out of my mouth is How Much? This Happens ! <BR> <BR>This happens to me all the time. I dont feel like re-education every single person, so I just usually say I don't remember or somthing depending on how I feel or just ignore them. <BR>but Inside I feel like sitting them down and saying didn't your parents tell you that this is rude, and there's a polite way to ask these sort of question's <BR>

Ditto...... <BR> <BR>I usually respond with something like: "you mean for my wife and kids?" <BR> <BR>The best is when they proceed to tell you that their uncle, cousin, or best friend has the same identical boat as you do and they have had it longer and they always go boarding and so and so is a pro and blah, blah, blah....... <BR> <BR>However, not too many "tools" coming out of the "shed" up here in Idaho as often as other places but when they do, they are noticeable......especially when riding on their PWC's! <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/angry.gif" border=0>

when ppl ask me that, I usually come back with..."This Mastercraft is the Cadillac of Tournament ski boats". <BR> <BR>They usually look at me and have to think, but it is two fold. A) Cost as much as a upper end caddy B) holds just a many ppl as one!!! <BR> <BR>I never reveal price, it just shows me they are only interested in the materialisitc side of the sport! <BR> <BR>KG

I've never had that happen, but I don't think that it would be out of hand to say, "That's kind of a rude thing to ask." If they're going to be that blunt, then they deserve the same in return.

i dont care what anyone else paid for their stuff and I dont care if anyone asks me, its all irrelevant

I get that to, for the bike and boat. <BR> <BR>I just tell them retail, smile and say "but I did not pay close to that..." <BR> <BR>I don't like the question, it's right up there with "how much do you make?" <BR> <BR>

It cost more than $5 and less than $100 Grand.

Never really bothered me. I personaly would'nt ask something like that to someone that I did'nt know, but if someone asks me I tell them. Maybe they're in the market or just really curious. I may have paid too much or too little for my boat but either way I'm not embarrassed by it.

Yeah, I think telling them an extremely low price is the way to go. make up some story about how you got it off a guy who bought it for his kids, and then they didn't like th ewater or something, so he basically gave it away. That will make them green with envy since they know they will never walk into a deal like that. <BR> <BR>If I am curious about how much a person spent on something, I will compliment them on it first, and ask other questions about it to find out more info, then I will ask "mind if I ask how much something like this costs?" I feel that is a polite way to ask and if they really don't want to tell me, then at least I was polite about it and they can just say they would rather not say. If they do say something like that, I accept that and thank them for their time. <BR> <BR>Just a case of the right way and the wrong way of asking a personal question. The closest thing I could compare it to is walking in to a store at a gas station to get a drink, and being asked "do you have gas?". I usually want to ask some thing like "are those boobs real?", but I usually say that I think that is rather personal, and then smile real big. Even though I know what they are asking, it is the wrong way to ask it.

It doesn't bother me when people ask, I'll usually just tell them. I understand that it is a personal question but I'm not sure why a person would make an issue of it. It's a compliment, really. My family is friends with these people that have the most insane custom houseboat you've ever seen. Anyways we were out on it one weekend when some guy pulls up to the boat and asks, Hey how much does one of those rent for? His answer, "i dont know i've never rented it out." Then another guy came up and said "hey how much did that thing cost you?" His reply "I don't know, my wife got it for me for my birthday."

I had a neighbor whom I've never met before, come over the day I got my new boat home to look at it. This guy didn't know anything about boats which made it even more insulting when he asked how much I paid for it. I think it was the second question out of his mouth. I was stunned. <BR>However, the other day I was at the launch ramp and some guy came up and said he was thinking about buying a wakeboard boat and said "I hope you don't mind but how much does a boat like that go for?" The way he asked it didn't bother me nearly as much for some reason and I tried to give him some idea what boats of this type retail for.

Y'all sound angry. Pay what you want.

I think Chris Said it: its' more about how you ask than what you ask. Like I said in my first post I to wonder how much people thing's cost but I would never Just walk up and the first thing out of my mouth "How much? <BR> <BR>We were at the lake last month and this tough guy walks up when we were fuleing and say's How Much? I put my pinky finger in my mouth(like Dr Evil) and yell at him "ONE MILLION DOLLARS" and then ignored him. He looked at his friends like WTF then he said somthnig like, "These guy's dont think im serious I have like half that in my pocket". We were laughing at him. What a dork!

Yeah, it depends how they approach it, if they came up to me and had a meanful conversation about boats and features etc. and at the end said, hey by the way how much would I expect to pay for a boat like yours? Then no biggy. <BR> <BR>The other day I was sitting in traffic comning back from the river, this guy pulls up next to me, rolls down his window and starts frantically waving at me. I figure something is wrong with my trailer or something, so I roll down the window to see what is up. He goes "nice boat, how much did you pay for it" caught me totally off guard. So I told him, "couldn't think of a good comeback at the time" and off he went. Whatever.

My response to the question "How Much?" is "My Boredom." As you walk or drive away you laugh at the look on their faces.

I've had the question asked numerous times but I never thought the question was directed at me personally. Although if it was personal I'd be a little vague. Perhaps I've been greeted with more tactful inquiries--------Geez, I hope I've been tactful. Last week I asked a couple people what they paid for their dive computers. <BR> <BR>I would ask my boat if she was offended but I'm a little rough on her at times and I may not like the response.

ive never been asked how much but this one time on the way to the lake, when at a stop light this white trash lookin lady starts yelling at us, so we roll down the window only to hear her ask if we had won the boat on the Price is Right, dont remember anything about the lake that day but will forever remember that crazy old lady
