Shooting a riding vid this year. Any tips?
Heya,
I'm looking in to doing a "professional" type of video this year for the area riders around here. Anyone willing to contribute some ideas and tips to get this done? We will be working with Hi Def vid and can easily get a couple of chase boats, and the tube shots. Any hints? I posted in the vid section, but it doesn't get as much traffic as this area. :) Thanks for any input. Shawn |
Take everything Norbi Vasko does, and do that.
I'm a really big fan of the traditional angles. Chase boat, straight from the side or slightly in front, or a tube in front. I dont like tube shots from behind because the lens always gets wet as soon as the rider leaves the wake and it makes it hard to see. |
helicopter.
We do some shooting while floating in the water. About the only cool footage we get is jumping the camera or jumping a buoy. Pretty generic footage really but it makes for a few good seconds of footage. Other than that follow Norbi, his stuff is sick. |
just dont do any shooting from the tow boat and youll be fine. dont forget your intro footage

SHOOT EVERYTHING. The more the better. Shoot shoreline, stuff in the trees, funny stuff on the boat and any random thing you can. I forget my percentages but it is something like 1 hour of riding film equals 1 minute of produced video or something like that. this is for NON pros. When we put together Delta Sessions, we found we never had enough "b-roll" film. So always keep the camera running!

dont settle with footage. there is no need for sloppy tricks in pro videos. what videos from other board sports and get ideas. and in those videos you will not see sloppy tricks. i guess i really have a big pet peeve of seeing sloppy/sketchy tricks in "pro" videos when they could have easily reshot it and got it right.

dont loose sleep at night mitch
Just have fun shooting and editing the video and try to get different angles. Video is all about angles. And invest in a good tripod if your shooting from shore. O and tell your riders that a stylish 180 is sicker then a ungrabbed tantrum w2w |
