Anyone know where there are usable boat ramps in the Sac River? We went to Garcia Bend and there is tons of silt. Miller Park had enough silt tonight (may have been low tide??) to make pulling the boat out tricky without 4WD (which we don't have). Any other ideas?

Just up from Miller is Discovery Park. It costs $8 but Miller & Garcia are supposed to be charging too. (No, they are no longer going to be free. The city was loosing too much money)

You can also launch from the West Sac side for free but the dock is not protected from the current so you should only try it if you have some driving skillz!

What kind of car are you using Ron. We always launch from Garcia, with the silt we've been havin trouble but we manage with a 2WD minivan, luckily its front wheel drive. Rear wheel drive may cause some difficulty though. I guess if theres a will theres a way.

On the Yolo county side there is Elkhorn. Only about 2-3 miles from I-5. Or there is one under the I-5 bridge on the Sac side. Off of the Garden Highway.

When my truck was in the shop, I used my G-Pa's truck. 2WD, bald tires at Miller Park with lots of silt. If you are really careful, and don't stomp on the gas, you will be fine. Also, have some guys standing on the rear bumper and bounce the truck as you are starting to move. The bouncing motion puts extra weight on the rear tires, and usually is all the extra traction you need.

Or, get 4WD. Besides, chains in the winter suck too.

timmay, we have a 4runner 2wd. our old tacoma spun the tires pretty good. no worries so far w/ the 4runner. we went to garcia and miller yesterday and the silt on the ramp at garcia was nasty. at miller they moved a fair amount off the ramp but at low tide there was still silt 5 ft. or so above the water line. (saw some people try to sink their boat by forgetting the plug. saved it with minimal panic!)
