Looks like I may have an opportunity for a good deal on a new (last year) '07 X2 but have never driven/ridden behind one? Just wanted to get some feedback on what you guys think? I am used to the realm of 20 footers with my VTX and she already has a new home, so looks like my $55k may be spent on a fully loaded X2 with only 7 hours.. Surf wake, ballast set ups, likes, dislikes, any pics? All input appreciated.. Boat is out of area and I am going with my trusty confidantes here at WW to give me the 411.. Thanks. MF

I drove one for a little bit last summer. with it not having any tracking fins it seemed real hard to drive around the dock and loading it onto the trailer. don't know if it was because of the no tracking fin design or if thats how MC's have always been. to get a prime wakeboard wake out of it you have to had a lot of weight when compaired to weighting other 20 footers.

05mobiuslsv 05-04-2008 9:30 AM

Why would you pursue a boat you know nothing about? For the money you're spending I'd at least go drive one first.

ef3529 05-04-2008 9:40 AM

Rode both last summer. The X2 is not near the boat the VTX is. You seriously need to drive one before you buy one.

882001 05-04-2008 9:47 AM

the x2 gets 2 thumbs down from me on wake. my whole crew agreed. besides that the boat is pretty nice. billet cnc > wake?

canecorso 05-04-2008 9:58 AM

X2 is sweet, you will love it, Go drive it and see for your self. We have an 08 and love it, as far as having to add a little weight it all depends on your skill level weather or not you will need more, how many peeps are on board, etc. We will be adding the high fly system to ours , not a biggee though boat is way more pimp than any other 20'

BTW--keep in mind your asking this from a site of 5:1 malibu owners. Go to www.tmcowners.com and see what they say

882001 05-04-2008 10:02 AM

i almost forgot about thr rikety tower it will hit you in the head

05mobiuslsv 05-04-2008 10:07 AM

Right RG he'll get a real unbiased opinion over there

deltaridah 05-04-2008 12:30 PM

ya you should defintley spend the same for a 20 ft boat that needs ballast upgrades as a fully loaded vlx. I was all set to buy a star this year until i drove one. Malibu hands down for me unless all your concerned about is the bling

h20jnky 05-04-2008 1:51 PM

thanks for the feedback guys.. good to know that malibu is still well represented here.. and just to clarify, we do plan on driving the X2 when we get over that way.. after 20 years of buying tourney boats, i have yet to purchase not a single one without a test drive.. it's just that we wanted to have the lowdown on pros/cons beforehand to keep things in perspective, so all your input is appreciated.. we do have first right of refusal on an '07 VLX WS hard loaded and it is my first choice however, with very limited garage space and my wife's affinity for being more comfortable driving/towing smaller boats, keeps us looking at the 20 footers.. i will keep you posted and thanks for the help.
-MF

I rode behind an 07 X2 last year, there was nothing about the boat that impressed me at all. For the record, I owned a Moomba Outback at the time and I was getting just as good of a wake out of it as the X2.

stxr_racer 05-04-2008 10:46 PM

Firstly i'm no boat or wake expert but here is my 2cents. A mate has an 07 X2 which I like a lot. It looks great in the water and imo the finish and quality of the boat is right up there. It has a ton of room/storage and drives and handles real well. As far as the wake is concerned this is very subjective. What suits me might not suit you but running only stock ballast I thought the size and shape of the wake was pretty good and enjoyed riding it. Extra weight in the right places will only improve this. Obviously a test drive/ride before buying is recommended! BTW I have a Nautique.

The X2 is one of the few boats I've driven that handles excellent without fins.

waterfreak 05-05-2008 8:23 AM

I have the 07 X2 and love it and have spent many hours behind it. I will be adding the fly high system to beef up the wake a little but it is fine for most people I ride with without the Fly high system. The fit and finish is top notch and power is great. If you do get the 07 make sure they install the tower braces for you as that is a warranty item to stop some of the shake of the tower. I would buy an X2 again if I was in the market today.

justridin 05-05-2008 10:36 AM

Are the tower braces available for all 2007 x2s under warranty? My neighbor has an '07 and is not aware of the "upgrade".

waterfreak 05-05-2008 12:34 PM

Officially called service bulletin....yes warrantied all 07 and 08 if it came stock with tower speakers.... ask your dealer. If no speakers ask dealer anyways as most are honoring the warranty.

I went from a prostar 190 to 06 x2 and I love it.

I have heard complaints about the wake, but never from anyone riding on my boat. And I know they arent just being polite. Tells me if people don't like it, its probably weighted wrong (or it was too wide for their skill level.) another 06 x2 on our lake people complain about it porposing (sp?). It has to be weighted correctly, which is a downside I think. It can be weighted incorrectly.

other than that, if you do a search myself and many others have posted detailed reviews on the x2 alone and compared to other boats.

I have to restate its your money, you need to go out and drive it and buy what you are the most comfortable with and like the best.

good luck.

882001 - roll up to lake houston and try mine out sometime if you want a second go at it.

deltaridah 05-06-2008 12:51 PM

one of my best freinds has a sante 220..... I always say its a cool wake. Truth is I always find a reason to take a 5 min set instead of 2 20min ones. He doesnt put any extra ballast in it at all. Its the worst wake ive ever ridden. I have more fun behind my other friends reinell. I just cant come to tell him his 75k boat is all looks and has a worth less wake. He loves it so i dont ruin it for him. Just food for thought

05mobiuslsv 05-06-2008 12:54 PM

^^^^^Andrew just has some really nice polite friends.

c640947 05-07-2008 10:50 AM

ive gotta think any new boat without a wedge would need extra ballast to get a decent wake for most rider's taste on this site......

canecorso 05-07-2008 11:31 AM

I agree thats why flabu dont need the extra weight

05mobiuslsv 05-07-2008 11:40 AM

What's that mean Cornhole? How's the FakeStar treating you.

acurtis_ttu 05-07-2008 12:17 PM

nu bu, I'll second Andrew's wake, I like it, no complaints from me, my wife loves it. Everytime I'm on it she asks why we didnt' by an x-2

05mobiuslsv 05-07-2008 12:20 PM

I wasn't dogging the X2 wake, I though it was funny what Soli said.

phenom_1819 05-07-2008 12:44 PM

ManFox, there is a really nice black/white '06 X2 that Darren Lamont is selling at Cope's in Issaquah. It is loaded up perfectly, JL Audio everywhere, and is in brand-new condition -- I've seen it! I believe 250 hours. The price is less then the one you mentioned above... anyway, it's a lot closer to you and definitely worth taking a look at. I just thought you might want to know...

(Message edited by phenom_1819 on May 07, 2008)

nuu- lol--love the x2-perfect size for us, throw some sacs and were all good, we just need some better weather out here.

Hows the bu with the wedge treating ya?

05mobiuslsv 05-07-2008 7:47 PM

Oh you know dependable as ever. They must have built mine right, it hasn't ripped off yet. Now that I said that it will probably rip off next time out.

duckguy 05-08-2008 9:39 AM

I loved mine, great room storage, build quality, ride etc. Its for sale by the way, already has the needed additional ballast as well. http://www.redlinewatersports.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=06236841X5K8K2008J10I37 I33JAMQ2838R0&veh=50006&pov=647424

I just picked up my 07' X2 last month. I test drove it and liked it(only two of us in the boat). I wish I would of had more people in the boat on the test drive so I could have seen how much of a pig in the water it is. As far as the wake goes a buddy that owns a Wakesetter VLX liked the wake for what it was. Also if anyone says they are running the slalom course with it(and doing well) I want to watch. Even with the wake plate installed it is NOT A GOOD SKI WAKE!
