does anyone run the Kicker Comp instead of the L7 in their boat? curious on how loud, clean, deep it is? and what Kicker amp would power that sub? <BR> <BR>I would like to get an L7 but seems like you can get a Kicker comp + amp for the same price as just the sub <BR> <BR>Hopefully Phil from Kicker can chime in

The comp is their cheapest sub. You will get what your pay for. The cheapest subs rarely do well in such a demanding application as a boat. Look into a mid price range sub, and you will be happier. Also, find a buddy into stereos, and watch craigslist. I ahve gotten some killer deals on like new amp/sub setups.

I had a kicker comp CVR 12 in a fairly good size ported box in my last boat. It was powered by an older kicker 400.1. I thought it was pretty damn good, especially for the price. I will admit I am not an audiophile and probably can't tell the difference between a good sub and a mediocre but I never had anyone say it sounded like butt or that it wasn't enough bass. I feel like for the price it was a great setup.

Isaac- <BR> <BR>The Kicker Comp woofer is our entry level woofer. It is good for about 150 watts RMS and the ideal amp would be either the ZX300.1 mono sub amp, or even the ZX400.1 mono sub amp. Really the sub can handle the higher power that the 400.1 can put out; it will deliver 200 watts into a single comp woofer, or 200 watts each into 2 comp woofers. The comp woofer is a good woofer for a smaller budget or first-time system. Despite the fact that it is our entry level subwoofer, it is still a Kicker; it is a good woofer. <BR> <BR>The L7 is the bad-azz in the family, only outdone by the Solo-X competition woofers. The L7 10 is good for 600 watts The L7 12 is good for 750 watts, and the L715 is good for 1,000 watts. If you have the budget, and plan on an extreme need for some solid LOUD low-end, the L7 is a good choice! Go vented for the loudest, and be prepared to start damping buzzes and tightening screws on the boat, as the woofer will let you find rattles you never knew you had... Just be sure to back it up with the real power that the L7 needs... <BR> <BR>Lastly if you are on the budget side of things, and considering the Comp, consider the KM10 marine sub. It has power handling similar to the Comp 10, but sounds a little better to lots of peoples ears, and it is totally designed for use as a boat subwoofer. Buy two and a 400.1 and you will be amazed at what it will do for the money. I use the marine 10's in my boat and they really do well. <BR> <BR>Phil <BR>Kicker

Phil, isn't the CVR124 a comp? This is the one I had and it shows it has an RMS handling of 400 watts. I was running the 400.1 at 2ohms giving it 400 watts. Wouldn't this be a great value combo? It is probably less than half the price of an L7 and a proper amp.

No first hand experience with the Kicker Comp subs, but I had the L5 in my last boat, and now an L7 in my new boat. I had the L5 in my 2001 Sanger powered by a Kicker ZX400.1 with the gains set high. It was a perfect setup for that particular boat, as it requires a pretty small sealed box and puts out some good bass. A 12L5 and ZX400.1 can be found fairly cheap online. For the money, it is a solid setup that requires very little space.

do it right the first time...for the $$$ the L7 is cheap.

what are you guys seeing L7s or L5s for?

I used to see refurbs on ebay all the time for real cheap. I'm thinking of using a 12" L7. Any recommendations for an amp for the 12" L7? I'm on a LOW budget, the cheaper the better. Don't care if it's also Kicker.

I also run a 12L7 with a ZX750.1 <BR> <BR>I got the sub refurbed and it's run perfect. I broke it in nice and gentle as suggested. I have it in a ported box in the drivers footwell and it's AWESOME!!! <BR> <BR>There are a few songs that I can actually hear the base while riding behind the boat on the left side (less obstruction to the soundwaves) when I can get people to turn it loud enough. I'm the one who loves the loud music so when I'm riding it's hard sometimes to get others to turn it up enough.

I run a Kicker L7 15 with a Hifonics 1600 sub got the sub and amp on ebay for less then $600 and it hits hard enough to throw ripples and splash water off the side of the boat. I made the box myself, went ported and followed kickers spec's. comps and cvr are different. i had large ported cvr on 400watts in my last boat. large ported L5 on 600 in my new boat. cant compare in person but they are close.

our comp vr12 has never let us down. with our jl amp its mmm good...

You really should swing by and talk to him and have a listen they are LOUD and crystal clear. I've listened to wetsounds, nvs, bullets, kicker kmt6's and this is what I settled on for my boat. They are the loudest and clearest speaker I could find. You know how loud and over the top I am with my boat and these fit right in. They also sound just as loud outside the wake as they do directly behind the boat which is a huge plus. They throw a fan of sound that covers 180 degrees easy.

Robert-Thanks for the info. It's too bad those speakers don't mount a little more conveniently to the illusion tower. That sub box looks absolutely beasty. I currently have a pretty small sealed box that faces the driver directly. I've been kicking around the idea of making something a bit more custom.

DOOD L7 is where it's at. I had a 15" L7 in my Sanger and 1400 watts of Class D power going to it. It used to make the dash of my boat dance. no joke. The dash would bounce close to an inch. I had to tighten all the guages back in place every few weeks. It absolutely slammed for a single driver. <BR> <BR>DO IT, DO IT. Ha, ha, ha.

I 2nd the CVR104 or CVR124 and the zx400.1 for a great sounding setup without breaking the bank. The 10" doesn't even need an enclosure if space is an issue, just a solid wall to mount through.

hummm for me i got a problem i have a ZR1000 amplifier form kicker and i dont know with what to make it work..... i want to use my factory box ( 1 square inch ) and just replace the parts..... but i dont find anything good.

Guys, <BR> <BR> I wanted to throw my .02 in. I have a 12 inch Kicker COMPVT under the dash in my boat and you would not believe how this thing puts out. I have a 05 Malibu VLX and it fits behind the kick plate with the stock box. I promise you will be amazed at how loud this sub is. <BR> <BR> I have Memphis 500.1 hooked up too it and last weekend i was on my boat with some friends that have a VLX with two L7s and he said mine sounds way better and he was pissed when i told him what i had. He told me it ws the best he has ever heard on a boat. Check it out its incredible.

I have 1 12" L7 running at 1ohm to a Diamond Audio 1000.1 amp in slot ported box, and it completed my system well. I'm VERY happy with it's performance. I got it on ebay for cheap. Buy a good sub/amp you can alway turn down the gains if you don't like it loud.

I've never heard the Kicker Comp, but I have 2 L7 (12") subs on a Massive Audio 1500.1 and they absolutely thump.

I have the VCVR12 powered by a JL E4300 amp bridged and the boat POUNDS...its also a PERFECT glove fit under the dash of a Sanger V210
