Does anyone have any experience with these new motors. Have been told they just do not perform like the previous non-CAT motors because of the new emissions. Any truth to this? Have looked at several new 09 boats with this motor.

Are you sure that it is a 330 and not 350. I thought that they changed the HP rating when they added the cats. Could be wrong, I know that they have been 350 all this year. It is my experience that these motors run better than the non-cat. The problem with fuel injection and no O2 sensor is the computer has no way of verifying the air-fuel ratio. The engine uses several sensors like air temp, engine temp, knock sensors to make an educated guess as to the amount of fuel needed. With an O2 sensor the engine knows for sure and can make changes according. That is why an engine that was 330 hp before cat and O2 sensors now makes 350 and that is with the restriction of the cat. We use a wide band O2 in my buddies’ race car when jetting the carb for different tracks just makes it easier to know that we are not going to hurt the motor by going to lean with the jets.

The engine you are referring to is the Scorpion 350. Mercruiser has dropped the black designation for these engines and is referring to them as simply "Scorpion" for the 2009 tow sports market. The 350 is the indicator of the displacement, in this case 350 cubic inches. The horsepower rating on this engine with or with out catalyst is 330 hp. The Scorpion 377 produces 340 hp w/out and 380 hp with catalyst. <BR>We have been exclusively installing the 350 Scorpion DTS with great results. Customers seem to really enjoy using the Launch Control feature. As for the performance of the Cat vs. Non-Cat engine I am unable to tell any difference in performance aside from the lack of exhaust smell the Cat.
