Yesterday we were out at the lake and on our way home we were having trouble with the trailer brakes locking when driving in reverse. I have an extreme trailer with a Trailer Buddy A-60 Hydraulic Brake Actuator. Every time I try to back up now, the brakes lock and I have to drive forward to disengage the actuator and then back up. This works until I turn hard or back up a hill. Once that happens, the actuator engages and locks the brakes. Has anyone experienced this? Is it possibly a faulty electrical connection?

I experienced this when I bought a new truck and the trailer hitch was too low.I had the same thing happen and got a tow hitch that was the same hight as the old one and the problem was solved.They say 17 to 19 inches from the ground but I found out that my hitch needs to be about 24 inches of the groung,I think depending on your suspension and if you put alot of weight in the back of the truck. <BR> <BR>You also may check the wireing and if the reverse light turn on when you put it in reverse. <BR> <BR>Hope that helps!!

Your ground wire or your reverse wire might have some corrosion on it. Clean those up and it may solve your problem.

I have extreme, we launched boat with Mule ( no light hook ups ) easy fix is take Nickle and put in slide so when you back up the brakes don't react. Small piece of tape holds the nicle in place.

Just checked and my reverse lights do not come on and there is some corrosion on the harness. I'm going to clean it up and see if that works. Thanks guys.

Also be sure to check your fuses, we had the same problem with our trailer and all it turned out to be was a blown fuse in the truck for the trailer lights. Our backup lights never came on either.
