Transmision Filter on V-drive
Is there a Filter that needs to be Changed on a V-drive Transmision??
My Manual for Mercruiser says change transmision fluid and fliter, but I can find one. Thanks for any help Chris |
No v-drive filter that I am aware of, but if the manual states it does does it give any more info? Location? Type?
|
transmissions have a filter
the hurth zf has a screen, you can pull and clean the borg warners has a screen, but never needs a cleaning unless you pull the tranny out |
Mine is a Velvet drive, So does that mean no filter or screeen to be changed
|
Velvet has a screen, but no need to clean it, because you need to pull it to clean it
|
hurth has a screen, but does anybody actually clean it? I would like to know if anybody or any dealer actually cleans the screen. I know its recomended, but I dont think anybody actually does it.
|
I do
i have seen metal flakes on that screen all the time no most dealers do not do anything, to tell you the truth and most do not winterize properly also |
have you ever had any problems with the plate that covers the filter leaking after removing for the first time?
|
nope, you need to push it down on the o-ring
it spins off |
Just an FYI, the ZF and Hurth drop centers are now recommended to run SAE 30 instead of ATF when placed in commercial duty. A ton of ballast would qualify. Check with ZF or Transmission Marine regarding your serial number for application. They are much happier with 30 and it eliminates that backlash chatter.
