Show Your Setup - Sweeet Garage Set ups

i have been looking at sheds and garages dreaming of my ideal set up! i dont have one but it would be kool to see some of your set ups and see how some are doing things.. seeing some of the set ups in the board storage forums looks pretty sweet! my dream set up would be a wake boat in the centre bay, bike trailer and bikes next to the boat and a caravan on the other side! and obviosly enough room to have a lounge, tv and a beer fridge set up for the man cave haha What ave you got?

I can't wait to have a shop one day. Just hard to find around here as real estate is so damn expensive. $ 500k doesn't even buy S##t. I have my truck, wifes car, boat, Pacer, and I am hoping to put a 63 Impala in my driveway here soon. Very jealous of you guys in the US that can buy a nice house and land for next to nothing.

bcrider, this really depends on where you are in the states. New Jersey, where I am is horrible for real estate and land, and property taxes, and car insurance, and.....that's why so many ppl leave.

Cali is probably the same. Cali is so beautiful with so much scenery but I would never live there. The Northeast is expensive.

migs 04-20-2012 11:17 AM

"Very jealous of you guys in the US that can buy a nice house and land for next to nothing. "

Come to the Peninsula in the CA Bay Area. See what you get for $500K. a 1 bedroom apt maybe...

saberworks 04-20-2012 11:37 AM

Since last fall I've been building a 16'x32' garage next to my house. I'm constrained on width because it's between my existing attached garage and the edge of my property. I used conventional construction, with concrete foundation, slab, 2x4 walls, engineered trusses, etc. My brother-in-law did the framing and siding, him and myself and others in the family helped with the roof, I did the electrical, and we're still working on the insulation & sheetrock. Going to end up costing me about $15k I believe (up in Pacific NW). I put a 10x8 door but the inside is 10' tall so I can fold up my tower inside (still need to fold it down to put the boat in/out).

bcrider 04-20-2012 11:48 AM

I'm highly aware that not all places in the states are cheap. But there are quite a few places that are. I live just outside of Vancouver, BC but the whole area is now considered one of the most expensive places in the world to live. I'm just envious of those that do live in these areas.

In my neck of the woods (Baton Rouge, LA) that kind of cheddar will get you a 2,500 sq. ft, water front, pool, in a good school district, boat lift and even a free Party Barge!

30' x 30' so 900 square feet. Doors are 11' tall and 10' wide. The picture probably makes it look larger that it is. I built it for 17K so not too expensive.

jon4pres 04-21-2012 8:55 AM

Aaron, If you built that for 17k I would say you did awesome I would have guessed it would have cost more than twice that. My brother is getting ready to build almost exactly what you have built minus the tall doors.

Mark your boathouse is great. There are several of those on our lake but most have been abandoned and I have always wondered why.

Pricing where I live is awesome. Here you can buy a 3 bedroom house on the lake for less than 200k.

Chris, I love that "shed." You have unlimited potential for the interior in it. I'm picturing epoxy on the floor, walls with cabinets, a work station where the truck is...

Chris,
Is that 10k with the concrete? If so thats hell of a good price, do you have the drawings by any chance? Any pics of the upstairs? That is just the perfect size building for me.

I said I built almost all of it myself. I am a rookie at concrete, so it got contracted out. The upstairs is not finshed. It is wired, there is about 8ft of clearance in the middle, but I am waiting until I put the ceiling in it and insulation before I floor it. I don't have drawings. I kind of just sketch it out on paper. I have a lot of pics of it along the way on facebook. Here is a partial breakdown.

Concrete pad: 100/yard $1400 + 600 labor = 2000 (contracted out)
Roof: stick built $900 ( truss option was $2100)
Shingles: $800 + $400 labor (two guys said they would shingle it for 400, and I said deal)
Garage doors : $2000 (contracted out, not my strong suit and they needed to work)

I wish I could have went wider, but I couldn't. 32x32 would have been my choice.

Not my actual garage but I have a access to it at any time and it's 15 mins away. My dad works at a prep school as the Dir. Of Building Services and this is the schools shop. It contains an auto shop, electrical, wood shop, and there's two more bays to the right in this pic. I used their industrial washer yesterday to clean my cover. It has every tool you could imagine, all available at anytime. I have a good deal with this setup. My boat is stored at my fathers on trailer. He has a nice two bay garage but not wide enough to fit the boat.

I'll play..here is the garage plan for the house we are building. The single door is for the boat. I can't wait for this to be finished.

kenv 04-23-2012 12:00 PM

Mallenger,

Looks like you are going 9x9 with the boat door. Check your clearance good. Top of my tower on my 226...folded down...was 9 feet 2 inches tall. That's why I had to build an out building with a 10 foot door to replace the 8 footer that was there. My older 226 with tower fit under the 8 no problem, but some of the boats sit high on the trailer and folded angles are funkier then ever on these towers. Good luck with your project. Love the curve in your floor plan.

My dream garage. It's been two years, but I still miss her!

Attachment 21663

mallenger 04-23-2012 12:18 PM

Ken, i've actually backed my 21v into an 8' door (had to lower the tires a few psi). So that's why I am going with the 9' door. 10' is tempting now that you mention it...

nautiquesonly 04-23-2012 2:31 PM

I would go 10 wide by 12 tall that way if u ever get a bigger boat it would still fit. My old 236 on an ez loader illusion barely fit in the 10 wide door on my unit. My tower height was a little over 11 ft on the trailer. Very nice to not have to fold down the tower every time in or out.

brazosfreak05 04-23-2012 2:33 PM

One thing to make note of is to make sure your garage door is all the way up. We were loading up the boat one day and had the garage door up but not quite all the way. When we pulled out the tower almost pulled the whole door off. Put a pretty big dent in it.

mallenger 04-23-2012 3:18 PM

I'll just be taking the boat out of the garage once a year to put on the lift. Then put it back in there for a few months in the winter. You are correct though about future boats, may have to discuss this with the builder. David, what is the story with the demo'd garage there?

Don't forget about the draft towers, jager cold shot machine, redbull cooler, pinball, ping pong table (I'm assuming by the rest of the garage this is mostly used for beer pong?)... not to mention practical features like retractable airhose reel in the ceiling? WINNER!!!!!

Tim, have you dialed in watching the game/tv from sitting in the boat?

brett564 04-28-2012 10:29 PM

After Tim's pictures, I walked into my garage and started to measure things out!

tims72 04-29-2012 10:24 AM

races/games/tv no. bc its a pain to get in and out of the boat to get beers ;)

Boo Coo if you want some measurements i can get some for you. one thing ive thought of doing is extending the bar sitting area with the same bar top material but having it hinge out with a support bar holding it in place. the cabinets are from home depot same as the bar top/ sink/ faucet/ 5 gallon hot water heater and kegerator.

I was thinking the same thing. I am planning to build a stick built garage and would like to know the cost differences.

nitrousbird 05-20-2012 7:51 AM

Just my attached garage. Will hold 3 cars; we keep the boat, mower, and wife's car in it with a will workbench area for me in the back. I do have to pull the mower and wife's car out to get the boat out. We are looking to build a 24x30 storage building at the back of our property this summer for winter storage and to store some things we currently have outside due to lack of garage space.
