Looking at buying a new camera need some input..

I am in the market for a new camera and would like some peoples input. Here is what I'm looking for digital slr with large screen to view pics, Hd, Video, interchangeable lens, and not difficult to use. I have been looking at a couple ( Sony slt-a55 and Nikon D5000) any thought or is there something better for the dollar? Thanks

"Difficult to use" is subjective, so I'm not touching that one..

Consider checking out out the *new* nikon D3100 -> http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Ni...472/D3100.html

At a quick glance the D5000 (http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Ni...452/D5000.html) only does 720p video with NO auto-focus while the D3100 does 1080 WITH auto-focus!! That alone give the D3100 an advantage in the video department and it's only $70 more.

I'm not up to speed on the Sony... My only concern is that if you're going to get serious about taking photos then Nikon definitely has a better (and yes more expensive) selection of lenses to choose from. This is something to consider for re-sale value down the road if things don't work out.

So the kits that come with the lenses? Would it be better to find just a body and then invest in a lens or are the package kits pretty acceptable? LIke the Canon t1i that comes with the 18-55 lens.

I would stay with either Canon or Nikon. The number of quality lens choices once you get into it will give you so much more flexibility down the road.

Jonathan- The 18-55 Canon kit lens is not a "professional" lens, but is surprisingly good for the price. For wakeboarding, one of the Canon 70-200L lenses is a staple.
