I have two 10's i'm gonna put in my supra comps bow. Just as much as anyone else i wanna conserve space so i was wondering if i can have a 1 cubic foot box with two 10's in it and one chamber. I know i have seen fiberglass boxes with the space shared by more than one speaker, i just don't want it to sound like crap. Tell me what you think, gonna make it out of MDF

ummm i would just put one in a big box instead of trying to cram 2 in a little box . one 10 in a 1.5 cubic foot vented enclosure with the sub firing forward will sound fine. wont take up a lot of space if you make it tall instead of long. also besure to power it correctly. This is a closed bow right? if so this is a good tip.

Most 10" subs take a .75 sealed enclosure, you could make a nice one that is 1.5 that would sound good. Put some stuffing in it and seal it up, wire it mono. You could put a baffle in but I probably wouldn't bother. I'd stick it up in the point of the bow for grins and extra space. I'd use 2 subs if I had them, building the box is the hard part for me. I'm gonna leave a thumb on a tablesaw one day.

That's why you have two thumbs. One's for backup purposes. <BR>

it not the number of sub,s you have its the way you install them one sub in a big ported box will sound better than 2 in a small sealed box thats what i have found out . give it a try

Yeah i may but this is temporary, gonna upgrade subs sice these are kinda crappy. I have a real nice excelon 1000w mono amp that is gonna power them though. Maybe i will just have to call it quits on putting anything in the drivers side storage in the bow and just make or get bigger better boxes. But even if i go with the sealed, what cubic feet would i want it to be with two subs in it, .75 or 1.5. I like the way my sealed 1.0 cubic foot box with a 12" in it sounds in my truck. (i know its different in a open air boat)

I just removed 2 10" subs which were in a sealed enclosure (1 cu. ft.) and went with 1 12" in a ported (1.8 cu. ft.) enclosure. It sounds sooooo much better now.

Can someone tell me the reason why the ports are rectangle now instead of round? Does it sound better?

In most situations its to save space.

PMH- Sorry I don't have any pictures now because its buried under my dash (SAN) but I will post something in the near future because the guy I had build it was such a good guy (customer service,knowledge,etc., and finished when he said he would). As far as rectangle ports go--I'm pretty sure its because port volume is much easier to get in rectangular form in less space than round. By the way, I used a Digital Designs sub and I'm now a believer.-- Worth every penny.

PHM: If you were to cut the top off of a ported JL spec box you would see that the inside of the box looks like a mouse maze. The air/and sound that is pushed out of the box is tuned via the diffrent directions it has to go threw It gets hard to do the when the port is round. Think of it like a muffler. How the exhaust is routed to the muffler from the front of the car to the back and then its forced forward and then its pushed back out this creates back pressure and changes the sound. Not all ports are set up like this some /most are straight forward and are set up just how they look

I think alot of people go with sealed boxes due to the lack of airspace in a boat (or not willing to give up the space) and the simplicity of building a sealed box vs a ported.

Grant, if you had a choice of installing a Polk MM2124DVC or and Audiobahn SWR 1242D which would you install or do would you recommend something different. Doesn't have to be extreme. Thanks.

So i bought a used JL w6 12" off craigslist. I guess i'm gonna go with the ported. Just gotta make a box that isnt a square cube like alot of the ones for sale seem to be.
