denwbaseball 07-11-2007 6:20 AM

Ok I need your help guys, I was looking for a new boat and I found a few and they keep getting sold before I can make a move on one! I live in North Central IL and am going on vacation to Table Rock on Friday and really need a boat!!! If anyone knows of any boat around these areas or anywhere in between let me know ASAP! I'm looking for something in the 10k range and it has to be an open bow...thanks in advance!

wakereviews 07-11-2007 7:04 AM

You can buy my '05 Air Nautique SV211 for 42k close to Galesburg, IL. I could possibly get you financed before Friday if you really put the rush on <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 7:10 AM

Unless you can get me payments for under $200 42k is way to much but thanks!

wakeboardlasvegas 07-11-2007 7:36 AM

Honestly, you should NEVER rush a boat purchase just because you need it for vacation. Now is not really a good time to purchase, rent one there. Save some more money and then in 2 months when everyone is trying to unload them, get one with ALOT more options for the same price you would pay if you bought today or this week.

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 7:42 AM

I agree, but I've always had a boat and have been trying to buy one for over a month know, and just this Sunday I was out in my I/O and the upper gears in my lower unit got all chewed up! so I couldn't go 2 months without a boat, I understand i'll be paying more but thats what I'm prepared to do.

bocephus 07-11-2007 7:45 AM

Hey OnlyInboards, <BR>Have you ever been to John's Taco Hideaway or Melburg's in Oquawka? Just curious...

05mobiuslsv 07-11-2007 8:40 AM

You will regret it if you rush to move on a boat before friday. You waited to late in the season, now I would just sit back and wait for a deal. You buy now you'll kick yourself this winter when you see all the good deals coming out.

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 8:43 AM

nu bu, your rite I'll prolly will be kicking myself in the winter but I'll also be kicking myself the rest of the summer because I won't be able to get out on the water!

psudy 07-11-2007 9:22 AM

Ever thought about buying one when you get down there? Williams brothers ski and sport usually has some good deals on used boats.

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 9:24 AM

Yea that is what I was thinking Paul...I just wanted to get some ideas of places down there to look and maybe check out some stuff online that will be down there! Does that place have a website? Where are they located? I'll be staying in springfield Friday and Cape Fair the rest of the week...

psudy 07-11-2007 9:33 AM

I just checked their website. All they have are newer boats, that I think will be out of your price range. I would just search boattrader and onlyinboards etc... <BR> <BR>Oh, you might try skiers warf in Kimberling also.

psudy 07-11-2007 9:44 AM

Sorry, its the ski shack now.

gmarkham1 07-11-2007 9:47 AM

is the supra in wisco still for sale? I would buy that beaut in minute.... <BR> <BR><a href="http://midwestwakeboarder.com/modules/classifieds/index.php?pa=viewads&amp;lid=11" target="_blank">http://midwestwakeboarder.com/modules/classifieds/index.php?pa=viewads&amp;lid=11</a>

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 9:53 AM

I tried!!! The bank says NADA says its only worth 4k so thats all they'll give me for that boat....I've tried an online place to and same story! Anyway around this?

hamkj 07-11-2007 9:56 AM

Why wouldnt you rent a boat?

gmarkham1 07-11-2007 9:58 AM

sure there are ways around it... you could do a home equity loan, <BR> <BR>or if you have a vehicle you owe way less on your vehicle then what is worth you can combine the loans... <BR> <BR>You can do a personal gaurantee loan, or secure it with other collateral <BR> <BR>Oh if you have a good relationship with your bank or credit union and talk with a personal banker or loan specialist they should be able to help you find a way... <BR> <BR>You could also go the route of having it appraised.. more timely though! <BR> <BR>(Message edited by gmarkham1 on July 11, 2007)

psudy 07-11-2007 10:00 AM

because renting is overly expensive with no benefit?

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 10:03 AM

Well I could rent a boat...Its not like if I cann't find one between know and then I wont go or something. <BR> <BR>As far as ways to get around the NADA thing....I don't own a home I still owe alot on my vehicle cause I just got it back in Jan. and I don't think I can get a personal loan cause I don't have the title for collateral on my truck! I'm in a pickle!!!

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 10:05 AM

O and I talked to my bank about getting it appraised and they said it wouldn't matter. And the online guy I talked to basically said I have to look for another boat.

psudy 07-11-2007 10:08 AM

I found you a boat! <BR> <BR><a href="http://springfield.craigslist.org/boa/356865568.html" target="_blank">http://springfield.craigslist.org/boa/356865568.html</a> <BR> <BR>It even has custom interior with premium materials <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>J/K. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by psudy on July 11, 2007)

gmarkham1 07-11-2007 10:15 AM

I looked at nada and see that there are several things that you cannot account for on their like the ballast, tower, racks, stereo and led trailer lites... that would get you a little closer... otherwise you would need to either get him to drop his price by half, find a rich girlfriend real quick, or hit up a relative or friend(that has money) to 'share' the boat with!

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 10:20 AM

hahaha, yea and I told the bank that it had all the stuff and they said it doens't matter! It shouldn't be this hard to buy a boat!

psudy 07-11-2007 11:38 AM

Hey, your bank should be all over that first link I posted from craigslist. PREMIUM MATERIALS damit.

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 12:04 PM

I know man! PREMIUM MATERIALS! Seriously I cann't understand why he is selling it for so cheap!haha <BR>As for the other link, I email him about 3 weeks ago and no response so I'm guessing its sold.

lotoftime 07-11-2007 12:17 PM

gmarkham1 07-11-2007 12:26 PM

I was goin to post a lengthy response but 'bob' has hijacked enough threads already... i am on my 2nd Supra and am very happy!

psudy 07-11-2007 12:26 PM

I vote for the banning of bob. All he seems to be here for is to bag on crap. If you can't offer anything. Don't post.

denwbaseball 07-11-2007 12:46 PM

Yea, thanks a ton Bob! Your wonderful insight has helped me a ton! Thanks for the post! Keep up the good work!!! <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>On second thought....good idea Paul!

kal_dude 07-11-2007 1:15 PM

wakereviews 07-11-2007 1:15 PM

Bocephus, never been there... should I make the trip? <BR> <BR>Dennis, if i could get you 200 payments, i would do it! unless you are putting 30k down, don't think i can make it swing <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

hamkj 07-11-2007 1:18 PM

Paul... sorry.. I forgot.. boats are a great investment.... I stand corrected! <BR> <BR>If someone bought my boat... I would gladly rent it back from them for $300 per day!

psudy 07-11-2007 1:59 PM

Its a better investment than renting. Last time I checked, ownership in anything is better than pissing money away. <BR> <BR>Would you sign a year lease? If so, I would be glad to buy it.

charman 07-11-2007 2:40 PM

did you happen to check his profile pic? hah hah

hamkj 07-11-2007 3:37 PM

Paul.. I guess it depends on where you live... I am on my boat more than anyone in my area... <BR> <BR>But most people I know that buy a brand new boat with minimal down payment... are looking at $500 per month. <BR> <BR>So I look at it this way... <BR> <BR>$500 mth for loan = $6000 annually. <BR>$500 annually for insurance. <BR>Need to have truck and trailer now = extra cost. <BR>Or Slip at marina. $1000 per year. <BR>Summerizing and winterizing - $300 per year. <BR>Service.... <BR>So it costs approximately $8000 per year.. and that is not even takign the boat out on the water yet... <BR> <BR>Most people use the boat 3-5 months of the year in my neck of the woods. I use mine all year around. <BR> <BR>Problem is... trying to fins a tournament boat to rent.. there are now a couple of direct drives to rent in the area... <BR> <BR>But I have people who pay $500 for the day to take my boat... they are people who come for holidays and have owned boats before... they say it is cheaper for them to take the $75,000 they would have paid for a boat... invest the money... have it grow.. and generate income to pay for the use of a boat while on holidays... <BR> <BR>$75,000 at 5% = $3750 = $8 days of boat rental... <BR> <BR>So there are claims for either side of renting and owning... I am not saying one is better than the other... <BR> <BR>I do know that if I could sell me boat to someone else that I know.. I would be willing to pay them back a premium to use it... <BR> <BR>I got stuck with the boat.. because the other 9 guys that owned boats... sold theirs before I sold mine... and paying me $20 per set is cheaper than boat ownership in their minds.... <BR> <BR>If I sold my boat and all the equipment etc... $50,000.... at $20 per set... I could ride every day until the day I died! <BR> <BR>My friends are pretty lucky... I buy all the latest and greatest gear for everyone to use... <BR> <BR>Rip Curl Stealth Vests for everyone... Xcel Tops to wear... Bare Drysuits (for winter)... Ronix, Hyperlite, O'Brien, Slingshot, Inland Surfer... etc etc etc... I have about 20 boards.. so no need to bring anything... <BR> <BR>Thats just the way we roll... so its an expensive hobby.. but I would not say investment... but I am stupid!

psudy 07-12-2007 8:28 AM

Sounds like your dad buys you some nice stuff. <BR> <BR>I never said it was an investment either. Sure if your only going to rent a boat for a week and not go to the lake for the rest of the summer I guess it would make sence. But that is not what is being discussed here. He could buy one now, and save the 1500-2K that he would piss away renting one for the week, and have a boat for the rest of the summer. Or he could rent one for the week, go home and buy one, and be out the 1500-2K. I would rather purchase.

shredhead 07-12-2007 8:41 AM

I have a bud with a clean closed bow 92 Ski Nautique <BR>in Elgin for $12,500.

hamkj 07-12-2007 8:59 AM

Paul... I agree and disagree... if he is in a rush to buy a boat and doesnt do his research and have things looked over on a $12k boat... he may end up pi$$in away $12k... by not being patient and finding the best boat he can in that price range.

psudy 07-12-2007 9:10 AM

You can check a boat out in a day, but whatever. Let it go.

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 9:57 AM

Ok I may have found one....1987 Supra Sunsport, just got new wood around the and in the engine compartment and also on the seats...int is next to perfect condition, and the hull has been wet sanded and buffed to look like new, no tower or anything....comes with the tandem trailer says it runs great...asking 8200...whatcha think guys?

psudy 07-12-2007 10:26 AM

Is it local or in MO? Either way have the guy pull it to a dealer for a compression test. That is an absolute must on boats.

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 11:22 AM

Its already at a dealership and its in Il on the way.

psudy 07-12-2007 11:44 AM

Have them do a compression test and give you the report. You can pretty much check everything else out visually. I would also ask them if there is a lake nearby so you can test drive it. If not, ask if there is some limited warranty they would give you. If they say no, ask what is wrong with the boat. They will reply with, nothing! Then you can say, "Then stand behind your product!" But I would make sure you get to drive it. As far as the boat itself goes, I don't know much about the old Supras. I believe they were good ski boats though.

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 12:35 PM

CRAP!!! So I thought I'd be safe getting a loan thu the dealer but no, there banks will only do boats less than 10 years old! And my bank won't go a dime over the LOW NADA value which is 5,660! WTF!

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 12:39 PM

Seriously what the hell!! and its not like I have bad credit....its prolly a little over 700 or if not very very close! I'm about to throw in the towel!

psudy 07-12-2007 12:48 PM

Dennis, be strong damit! Don't give up. You keep saying "your bank," have you checked around at different banks? You could buy a home here and I will lend you the $. Also, tell the dealer you can only get a loan for the 5660 and see what they say.

psudy 07-12-2007 12:52 PM

High retail on that boat is only 7600, so they are asking too much. Keep in mind that the trade in value of 5660 is probably more than they gave for it in the first place. They more than likly wholesaled it, so they will make something off of it. Just don't be to anxious.

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 12:53 PM

When I say my bank its a bank that my girlfriend has an account at and we are both going to be on the loan, because "my bank" won't give a loan to any recreational vehicle boat etc....I've tried 3 in my town....1. was the one i'm still going with that only will do the NADA....2. my bank they won't even consider it....3. they like the dealers bank won't do anything older than 10 years. I've also tried on online one its cann't remember the name but there min. loan amount is 10k and they go by the NADA value as well.

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 12:54 PM

And I think I could get him down to $7200 but that still doesn't help much.

psudy 07-12-2007 1:15 PM

Dealer carry?

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 1:17 PM

What do you mean?

psudy 07-12-2007 1:48 PM

See if the dealer himself will carry the rest of the debt. Tell him because he is asking too much for his boat, can he carry the 2500. Be nice and give him a LIFO option. I doubt he will, but it might be worth a shot.

denwbaseball 07-12-2007 7:55 PM

Well Paul, I think I found a way! I'll be leaving for there around 11a.m. tomarrow morning then straight to the dealer to test drive the boat and what not...then if all goes well i'll be pulling the boat down to Springfield MO and be on the water on Table Rock around 10a.m. new boat and all! I just wish I had time to get a tower on before I get there but I guess I cann't get to greedy.

gmarkham1 07-12-2007 8:05 PM

what boat are you looking at pickin up tomorrow?

denwbaseball 07-13-2007 5:31 AM

Its an 87 supra sunsport, open bow, just wet sanded and buffed the hull int. in great shape, I'll be "out the door" for just of 8k....Its in really really good shape! I'm so pumped so I don't want anyone to come on here and say how I'm getting ripped off and shouldn't buy it! haha

gmarkham1 07-13-2007 5:38 AM

Sounds like a heck of a deal.... you have a link so I can buy it before you get there? <BR> <BR> <BR>J/K.... rig up an extended pylon for your week vacation and put all your coolers in there..... <BR> <BR>Good luck

gmarkham1 07-13-2007 5:40 AM

just dont get googly eyed about it... look closely and try to get the dealer to give you some leeway on 'as is' for a week or two...

65sanford 07-13-2007 5:49 AM

That is a good boat for the money--glad to see that the wood had been replaced though--that really is the only area of concern. Enjoy and good luck with the new boat!

denwbaseball 07-13-2007 6:12 AM

Good question....check out my profile picture, do you think I could rig up that pylon on this boat without out drilling...Just slip it over the extisting one? and put the front strapes around the bow?

malibuboarder75 07-13-2007 7:11 AM

Dennis, $8k is a good deal if the boat is in good shape. Just make sure everything checks out. I know boat buying can be exciting, and you can let your emotions take over. Just make sure to check the stringers and floor for any softspots or rot.

psudy 07-13-2007 7:13 AM

If its thick enough you should be able too. I don't know if you will see this thread again, but if you are down there next week, I will look for you. We will be in a Cobalt 292, full of babies. It should be an interesting trip. This is our first vacation with our twins. It actually may be no vacation at all...

denwbaseball 07-13-2007 7:16 AM

I'm trying to post some pics of it but my adobe isn't working and its saying there to big.

denwbaseball 07-13-2007 7:18 AM

Paul, haha I'm guessing you'll still have a great time!

denwbaseball 07-13-2007 7:20 AM

Paul, I just emailed you 2 of the pictures....

Well I'm back from Table Rock...had a great time!!! The new boat ran great!....I made my first w2w while i was down there I also tried surfing with the bindings pulled off an old hyperlite skurfer....no weight in the boat so had to hang on to the rope but still had a great time doing it!!!!!

denwbaseball 07-23-2007 5:45 AM

Did you ever go down there Paul?

psudy 07-23-2007 8:06 AM

Got back yesterday. It was fun, but very different with a boat load of little ones. We never strayed to far from our place. Congrats on the new boat. Sounds like you had a great time. I am hoping to go back down in August Kid free.

gmarkham1 07-24-2007 5:58 AM

did your extended pylon work out? <BR> <BR>If you are looking for a tower you could put an oem 21v tower on her... there is a store on ebay out of milwaukee selling them... reasonable if you can pick it up! <BR><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUPRA-MOOMBA-21-LAUNCH-WAKEBOARD-TOWER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ26451QQihZ011QQit emZ320136580036QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUPRA-MOOMBA-21-LAUNCH-WAKEBOARD-TOWER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ26451QQihZ011QQit emZ320136580036QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V</a> <BR> <BR>you would have to come up with some backing plates and stuff but wouldnt think that would be a prob. I have bought stuff from these guys before and they were great! Let me pick it up my purchased and let me by additional product at the same cost of the auction!

denwbaseball 07-24-2007 6:18 AM

Yea I'm not sure if the pylon will workout but I got about 20min. on the road and I realized I forgot it! I was pissed!haha O-Well...I'm kinda thinking its not going to fit because the stock pylon on the boat has the "T" so the rope doesn't fall down, I don't think that it will fit around that, but I will def. try next time out! As far as the tower I'm wanting to get I think I'm going to go with a monster or a DIY....But thanks for the link!!! All I really need know is a tower and some sacs and I'll be set!....yea rite!
